Overview of campgrounds near Pixley
Pixley sits in Tulare County in California's southern San Joaquin Valley, roughly halfway between Bakersfield and Visalia along Highway 99. The town itself has no campground, but several practical RV options sit within a short drive, ranging from a quiet historic state park to full-hookup parks oriented toward Sequoia and Kings Canyon traffic.
The closest public campground is Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, which preserves the only California town founded, financed, and governed by African Americans, about 15 minutes west of Pixley. Royal Palms and Country Manor Mobile Home Community offer simple stays near the highway corridor. For travelers using Pixley as a launch point into the Sierra, Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey sits about 45 minutes north with full hookups and pull-thru sites, while Lemon Cove Village RV Park is a family friendly RV Park at the base of Sequoia National Park, just 25 miles from the entrance to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. The mix suits both overnight stopovers along the 99 and longer base-camp stays.
Things to do near Pixley
Pixley National Wildlife Refuge, just south of town, protects vernal pools and grassland and is a good spot for winter waterfowl and sandhill crane viewing. Allensworth itself offers self-guided tours of restored early-1900s buildings, including a schoolhouse, church, and library, plus a visitor center with exhibits. Wildlife species commonly seen at this park include burrowing owls, which are active during the day, and the endangered San Joaquin kit fox.
Day trips push the variety further. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are within roughly a two-hour drive via Visalia and Three Rivers, with the Foothills entrance reached most directly through Lemon Cove. Lake Kaweah is about four miles from Lemon Cove Village RV Park and offers fishing, boating, and swimming. Downtown Visalia and Exeter provide groceries, restaurants, and resupply for longer trips.

The southern San Joaquin Valley has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, damp winters. Summer months can be extremely hot, with temperatures soaring above 100°F, while winter offers cooler but occasionally rainy conditions. Shade is limited at valley-floor campgrounds, and RV travelers usually run air conditioning hard in summer, which makes full-hookup sites at parks like the Visalia KOA Journey or Lemon Cove Village RV Park more comfortable than dry camping at exposed state-park sites.
Spring and fall are the most pleasant windows. The ideal time to visit Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is during spring and fall when the weather is mild and conducive to outdoor activities. March through May brings wildflowers, green grasslands, and comfortable daytime highs, though spring also catches the tail of the wet season. Late September through November cools quickly and is a strong shoulder season for both valley stays and Sequoia trips, since the foothills lose their summer crowds. Winter is mild but can bring dense tule fog along Highway 99, which sharply reduces visibility and can affect travel days. Sequoia's high country closes to most RV travel in winter due to snow and chain controls.

Its was our first time camping and we are very lucky we found this one. Alex is a great host and explained everything before we departed. We were a little stressed as it was our first time camping in King's Canyon, but Alex made us feel comfortable with the trailer and walked us through everything. The trailer is super neat and clean we didn't have to do anything to set up. We put our stuff in it and it was ready to go which made our trip a lot easier. Alex is very friendly and was available throughout our whole trip in case we had questions and needed help. We will definitely be coming back to Alex for all our camping adventures. Thank you it was a great experience!

We had a great week in the Sequoias using Alex’s trailer. It was extremely clean and had great supplies available. The kids loved their bunkbeds plus the option to sleep on the fold-down dinette area. Communication with Alex was great - he provided lots of helpful details and helped us resolve one minor issue right away. Definitely recommend!

What to expect on the ground
Most campgrounds in the Pixley area are valley-floor parks with gravel or paved pads, modest shade, and easy big-rig access from Highway 99. Colonel Allensworth has a 15-site campground behind the reconstructed town, with covered picnic tables and barbecue grills, plus restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers at no extra charge. There are no stores inside the park, so groceries should be picked up in Earlimart, Delano, or Tulare.
Foothill parks feel different. Lemon Cove Village has 55 sites, full hookups, a swimming pool, coin-operated laundry, a fenced dog park, and is the only RV park with a Sequoia Shuttle stop, which runs all summer starting the end of May. The Visalia KOA Journey offers pull-thru sites with full hookups, a pool, playground, dump station, propane, laundry, and a camp store. Summer heat and winter tule fog are the two conditions to plan around.
