Campgrounds and RV parks near Shasta, CA

Whiskeytown Lake is the main draw. The lake supports swimming, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, and water skiing in summer, with sandy beaches at Brandy Creek and Oak Bottom. The recreation area also has waterfall hikes, more than seventy miles of trails for hikers and mountain bikers, and historic gold-panning sites. East of Redding, Lassen Volcanic National Park offers hydrothermal areas and alpine lakes within about a two-hour drive. Shasta Lake, just north of Redding, adds houseboat country, the Shasta Dam tour, and Lake Shasta Caverns. In town, the Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River, the Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and the Sacramento River Trail are easy add-ons for families with younger kids.

The Shasta and Redding area has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Winter is mild but wet, with most rainfall arriving between November and February. Snow at lake elevation is uncommon, though higher trails and roads toward Lassen can close. Redding-area commercial parks are flat, paved or graveled, and built for big rigs with full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Shade is limited at some, so awnings and reflective shades help in summer. Brandy Creek RV Campground is a dry park-service lot on asphalt with limited shade, no hookups, no fire rings, and no on-site restrooms. Potable water and a dump station are available but may be shut off in winter to prevent freezing. Maximum RV length at Brandy Creek is about thirty-five feet, and units must be self-contained with their own toilet. Cell service is generally good in Redding and usable at Whiskeytown. Bears and other wildlife are present in the recreation area, so food must be stored inside the RV or in provided lockers.
