Campgrounds near Teviston
Teviston is a small census-designated place in Tulare County, on Highway 99 between Fresno and Bakersfield in California's southern San Joaquin Valley. The town sits at about 272 feet of elevation in flat, agricultural country, with very little camping inside the community itself. Most RV travelers use Teviston as a Highway 99 waypoint and base for trips into the surrounding Central Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills.
The closest dedicated public campground is Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, a California State Parks unit that preserves the only California town founded, financed, and governed by African Americans. The park has a developed campground operated by California State Parks. Within roughly an hour's drive, options expand to include the Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey to the north, the Lost Hills KOA Journey to the southwest off Interstate 5 at Highway 46, and mobile-home and RV parks such as Royal Palms and Country Manor Mobile Home Community closer to town.
Things to do near Teviston
Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is the main day-use draw. Visitors tour restored early twentieth-century buildings including a schoolhouse, church, library, and homes that interpret the founding of the town in 1908. The park also has a visitor center with interactive exhibits, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing for burrowing owls and the endangered San Joaquin kit fox.
Further afield, the Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey puts campers within an hour of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, home to the General Sherman Tree and the Giant Forest. Day trips also reach downtown Visalia, Kaweah Lake for boating and fishing, and Mooney Grove Park. From the Lost Hills KOA Journey, Paso Robles wine country is roughly an hour west on Highway 46.

The southern San Joaquin Valley around Teviston has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summer daytime highs frequently push into the upper 90s Fahrenheit and can exceed 100, so shaded RV sites with reliable 30 or 50-amp service for air conditioning matter a great deal. Valley campgrounds stay open through the heat, but afternoons are often spent indoors or at a pool rather than sightseeing.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for valley camping, with warm days, cool nights, and minimal rain. Winter brings the bulk of the region's precipitation in the form of valley rain and tule fog, which can drop visibility on Highway 99 and Interstate 5 to near zero overnight and into the morning. Trips into Sequoia and Kings Canyon follow a different rhythm: high-elevation campgrounds such as Lodgepole open seasonally for summer and early fall, while Potwisha in the foothills and Azalea in Grant Grove are the two campgrounds that operate year-round.

Its was our first time camping and we are very lucky we found this one. Alex is a great host and explained everything before we departed. We were a little stressed as it was our first time camping in King's Canyon, but Alex made us feel comfortable with the trailer and walked us through everything. The trailer is super neat and clean we didn't have to do anything to set up. We put our stuff in it and it was ready to go which made our trip a lot easier. Alex is very friendly and was available throughout our whole trip in case we had questions and needed help. We will definitely be coming back to Alex for all our camping adventures. Thank you it was a great experience!

We had a great week in the Sequoias using Alex’s trailer. It was extremely clean and had great supplies available. The kids loved their bunkbeds plus the option to sleep on the fold-down dinette area. Communication with Alex was great - he provided lots of helpful details and helped us resolve one minor issue right away. Definitely recommend!

How to book campgrounds near Teviston
Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is booked through Reserve California, online or by phone at 1-800-444-7275, with reservations available up to six months in advance. Sites can also be taken on a walk-up basis when available, but reserving ahead is recommended around special events and weekends.
The Visalia / Sequoia National Park KOA Journey and Lost Hills KOA Journey are booked directly through KOA, either online or by phone, and accept daily, weekly, and monthly stays. National Park Service campgrounds inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon use Recreation.gov on a one-month rolling window: reservations open on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time for arrivals one month out, and popular campgrounds such as Lodgepole and Azalea can fill within minutes for summer weekends.
What to expect
Expect a working agricultural landscape: row crops, dairies, citrus and almond orchards, and long, straight rural roads. Cell coverage is generally usable along the Highway 99 corridor but can be spotty in and around Colonel Allensworth, so download maps and reservations before arrival. Bring all food, water, and sun protection needed, since there are no stores inside that park.
Valley KOA properties along the freeway corridors are designed as full-service stopovers, with shaded pull-through sites, full hookups including 30 and 50-amp service, pools, laundry, dog runs, and small camp stores. Highway noise from Interstate 5 is noticeable at the Lost Hills location. Summer air quality in the valley can drop on hot days and during wildfire smoke events, so families with asthma should monitor conditions before extended outdoor activity.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Teviston is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see plenty of dog-welcoming rigs in the Tulare County area. Once you are on the road, your pup has options too. Lake Kaweah's Horse Creek Recreation Area allows leashed dogs at campsites, and many Sequoia National Forest trails around Hume Lake are dog-friendly (unlike most trails inside Sequoia National Park itself, where pets are restricted to paved areas, campgrounds, and picnic areas). Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, summer pavement in the Valley regularly tops 100F and gets hot on paws.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Teviston?
Yes, RV delivery Teviston is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you've never towed or driven a motorhome. Many hosts in the Tulare and Visalia area will deliver and set up your rig directly at campgrounds like Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers, Lemon Cove Village, or Horse Creek at Lake Kaweah. They'll level the RV, connect water and power hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see exactly which hosts offer it and what their delivery radius covers. It's the easiest way to start a stress-free Teviston RV trip.

nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Teviston?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping Teviston. April through early June brings wildflower blooms across the San Joaquin Valley with daytime highs of 70 to 85°F, perfect for both Valley exploration and Sequoia day trips. September and October cool back to the 70s and 80s with crisp Sierra nights. Summer (June through August) regularly tops 100°F in Teviston itself, so plan to head into the higher elevations of Sequoia and Kings Canyon where temperatures stay 20 to 30 degrees cooler. Winter is mild in the Valley (50s to 60s) and a magical time to see snow-dusted sequoias, though chains may be required on Generals Highway.
weather.gov/hnx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
First time renting an RV? You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery, if the host brings the RV to you), walking through driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, the water system, and the generator. Teviston is an ideal place to start: the surrounding Central Valley roads are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked, so you can build confidence before tackling Highway 198's curves into Sequoia. Most first-timers choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for easy handling. And you can message your host from the listing before booking to ask any question, no pressure.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking from Teviston includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If you have a mechanical issue heading up Highway 198 toward Sequoia or anywhere along Highway 99 through the Valley, one phone call dispatches help. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app since they know their RV best and can troubleshoot quirks fast. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave so help is one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Teviston RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Teviston, so an epic road trip into Nevada (Las Vegas is about 380 miles east), Arizona, or up the Pacific Northwest is on the table. Just message the host before booking to confirm your route, since some set a maximum travel distance. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage stop at the border. Cross-border travel into Canada generally requires host approval. Stick to the US and you have a continent of adventure: Death Valley, Joshua Tree, and the entire Pacific Coast Highway are all within reach.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Teviston RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's predictable. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), travel trailers reduce your tow vehicle's MPG by about 30 percent, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG. California gas prices run higher than the national average, often $4.50 to $5.50 per gallon in Tulare County. For a 300-mile round trip from Teviston to Sequoia and back, budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Tulare or Visalia where prices tend to be lower than at the small stations near park entrances, and use the GasBuddy app to find the cheapest pumps along Highway 99.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Teviston?
Plan ahead and you'll get the exact site you want. Campgrounds inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks (Potwisha, Lodgepole, Azalea, Sunset, Sheep Creek) open reservations on Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window, and summer weekends often book out within minutes of release. For Memorial Day through Labor Day trips, set a calendar reminder and book exactly six months out at 7 a.m. Pacific. Private parks like Sequoia RV Ranch and Lemon Cove Village are easier and can often be snagged 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Lake Kaweah's Horse Creek sites open on Recreation.gov as well. Shoulder season (April, May, October) is much more forgiving for last-minute plans.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2931What are driving conditions like around Teviston?
Driving in and around Teviston is about as easy as RV driving gets in California. Highway 99 and Highway 65 are flat, four-lane corridors perfect for building confidence in a motorhome. The challenge comes when you head east into the Sierra: Highway 198 from Visalia to Sequoia includes steep grades and tight switchbacks above Hospital Rock, and vehicles longer than 22 feet are strongly advised to enter Sequoia via Highway 180 from Fresno instead. In summer, watch for agricultural traffic and farm equipment on rural Valley roads. Winter brings dense Tule fog to the Valley (drive with low beams) and chain requirements on Generals Highway in the mountains.
dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations/road-informationWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Teviston?
Campground amenities vary by location, but you'll have plenty of choice. Private parks like Sequoia RV Ranch and Lemon Cove Village offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. National Park campgrounds like Potwisha and Lodgepole provide drinking water, flush toilets, dump stations, and bear-proof food lockers, but no hookups, so you'll rely on your RV's fresh water tank, batteries, and generator (where permitted). For dumping and refilling near Teviston, the dump station at Sun and Fun RV Park in Tulare is a reliable stop. Pack a basic toolkit, a sewer hose, and a freshwater drinking hose, your host will tell you exactly what's already in the rig.
nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhat's inside a typical Teviston RV rental?
Even the most modest motorhome rental in Teviston comes ready to live in. Expect a full kitchen with refrigerator, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware; a bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink; queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleeping for 4 to 8 people; air conditioning, furnace, and seatbelted seats for travel. Most rentals include a generator or solar setup so you can run AC and outlets off-grid, which is huge during 100F Valley summers. TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor awnings are common. Each RVezy listing shows exactly what is included, and you can message the host before booking with any questions. Download maps and entertainment before leaving cell range past Three Rivers since mountain Wi-Fi is unreliable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Teviston%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts personalize each rental with handy add-ons that make a family RV trip from Teviston smoother. Common extras include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, generator hours, propane refills, and extra mileage packages if you plan to push beyond the included daily allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day). Pickup typically happens at the host's home in or near Teviston, Tulare, or Porterville, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough. Delivery and setup to your campground is a popular alternative on RVezy. Always confirm pickup time, dropoff time, mileage, and any late fees in the listing details before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Teviston%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform: you pay for your booking by credit or debit card directly on the site (never in cash to the host). A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card and released back to you after the trip, assuming no damage or extra fees like mileage overages. To avoid any deposit hassles: do a thorough walkthrough with photos at pickup and dropoff, refill the fuel and propane to starting levels, and empty the gray and black tanks at a dump station before returning. Easy and transparent.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAny local insider tip for an RV trip from Teviston?
Here's a local move most visitors miss: instead of fighting summer crowds at Sequoia's General Sherman Tree, base your RV at Hume Lake Campground in Sequoia National Forest (5,200 feet elevation, cool nights, swimmable lake) and drive a smaller day-trip vehicle into the parks. You'll skip the brutal Valley heat, save on park-entrance shuffling, and have a private lake at your doorstep. While you're in the area, swing through Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, just 20 minutes from Teviston, the only California town founded, financed, and governed by African Americans. It's a remarkable, uncrowded stop that most road-trippers drive right past on Highway 99.
