Campgrounds near Bennett, Colorado
Bennett sits on Colorado's High Plains along Interstate 70, about 30 miles east of downtown Denver and roughly 20 miles east of Denver International Airport. The terrain is open shortgrass prairie at about 5,500 feet, and the town serves mainly as an I-70 access point for RV travelers heading to the Front Range, Rocky Mountain National Park, or eastern Colorado.
Most RV options near Bennett cluster along the I-70 corridor between Aurora and Strasburg. The Denver East / Strasburg KOA Holiday is open year-round in Strasburg and is located near Watkins, Bennett, and Byers. Other nearby choices include Wild Country RV Park, Denver Meadows RV Park, and Flying Saucer RV Park closer to the Denver metro, plus the Golden Gun Club near Watkins.
Expect flat, easy-access sites geared to travelers passing through or basing themselves for day trips into Denver. Sites are typically level with full hookups, and reservations are accepted at year-round properties like the Strasburg KOA, which offers pull-through RV sites up to 70 feet long with 50-amp service.
Things to do near Bennett
Bennett itself is small, so most activities are day trips. Denver is a straight shot west on I-70, with museums, professional sports, and the Denver Zoo within about 40 minutes of most nearby campgrounds. Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park are reachable as longer day trips to the northwest.
Closer to camp, families gravitate to on-site amenities. The Denver East / Strasburg KOA has an ice cream parlor, Hunt Brothers pizza with delivery to your site, an outdoor movie theater, a swimming pool, hayrides, and an arcade. Cherry Creek State Park, southwest of Bennett in Aurora, offers boating, swimming, and about 35 miles of multi-use trails for a half-day outing.
The Golden Gun Club near Watkins draws visitors for sporting clays, trap, and rifle ranges.

Peak RV season on Colorado's eastern plains runs late May through early September, when days are warm and mostly dry. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August and can bring hail, so awnings should be retracted when storms build over the Front Range. Wildfire risk climbs through summer, and fire bans that limit camping to propane and gas appliances are frequently in effect at nearby Colorado state parks.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons. Late spring brings the wettest weeks of the year along with sudden snow squalls that can linger into early May. Fall offers cool nights, lighter crowds, and generally settled weather through October.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Private RV parks along I-70 like the Strasburg KOA operate year-round, while Colorado state parks reduce services. At Cherry Creek State Park, winter camping from November 1 through March 31 is available only in the Abilene Loop, a reservation is required, and the dump station is closed for the winter and reopens April 1.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book near Bennett
Private RV parks near Bennett accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone. KOA properties like Denver East / Strasburg take bookings through koa.com, and each KOA sets its own cancellation policy, so confirm the terms at the time of booking.
For state parks in the greater Denver area, bookings go through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. All CPW parks are reservation only, and a reservation can be made no more than six months before the arrival date. Reservations can be made online through CPW's camping reservation system at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613.
Summer weekends fill quickly. Booking as soon as the six-month window opens is the safest approach, and campers should note that a Colorado State Parks daily or annual pass is required in addition to the campsite reservation.
What to expect
The area is prairie flat, open, and windy. Sites near I-70 offer easy in-and-out for big rigs but come with steady road noise. Highway noise from I-70 creates a constant backdrop at the Strasburg KOA, and aircraft from Denver International Airport pass overhead periodically.
Shade is limited on the plains, so awnings, window covers, and reflective shades help during summer afternoons. Cell coverage is generally good along the I-70 corridor, though advertised campground WiFi can be slow when the park is full.
Supplies are easy to find. Strasburg, Bennett, and Watkins each have small grocery and hardware options, and full-service stores are a short drive west toward Aurora. Trains pass along tracks near some sites at the Strasburg KOA, which is worth noting for light sleepers.
