Camping near Bow Mar, Colorado
Bow Mar is a small statutory town on the southwest edge of the Denver metro area, roughly 12 miles from downtown Denver and bordering Littleton. The town sits in both Arapahoe and Jefferson counties and is best known as a residential lakeside community, so RV travelers base themselves at parks in the surrounding suburbs rather than in Bow Mar itself.
The closest full-service RV options sit within a short drive along the C-470 and US-285 corridors. Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community, Flying Saucer RV Park in Sheridan, Applewood RV Resort, Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden, and Denver Meadows RV Park cover the main choices for hookups, laundry, and metro access.
Most travelers use Bow Mar as a jumping-off point for Chatfield State Park, Red Rocks, and the Front Range foothills. The location trades wilderness scenery for convenience: grocery stores, dump stations, propane, and RV service shops are all within a few miles of every park on the list.
Things to do near Bow Mar
Chatfield State Park sits just south of Bow Mar and anchors the outdoor calendar. The 1,423-acre reservoir supports boating, sailing, swimming, and fishing for walleye, bass, trout, catfish, and perch, with roughly 26 miles of multi-use trails, a large off-leash dog area, and a marina on site.
Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre and the trails of Apex Park in Golden are both short drives away, and downtown Golden itself offers walkable dining, breweries, and access to Clear Creek. Guests staying at Dakota Ridge RV Park can reach Red Rocks and downtown Golden in roughly ten to fifteen minutes by car.
Families with kids typically pair a Chatfield day with an evening in Littleton or a museum trip into central Denver. Light rail stations in Littleton and Englewood give car-free access to the city from several of the RV parks.

The Denver area has a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons, low humidity, and around 3,100 hours of sunshine a year. Summer is peak camping season: highs sit in the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, afternoon thunderstorms are common, and Chatfield State Park campsites fill quickly on weekends. Reservations at Chatfield can be made up to six months in advance, and early booking is strongly recommended for June through August.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights and lighter crowds. Spring can be wet and windy, and measurable snow through April is normal along the Front Range. Fall typically delivers dry, sunny days and cold nights, making it a comfortable window for RV travel before winter sets in.
Winter is quiet but functional. At Chatfield, only C-Loop (sites 103 to 153) stays open from mid-October through the winter camping season, while the RV dump station remains open year round for potable water and holding tanks. Private RV parks in the metro area generally operate all year, so travelers passing through in December or January still have hookups available.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book campgrounds near Bow Mar
State park sites are handled through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Reservations for Chatfield State Park are made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613, up to six months before the arrival date. A vehicle pass is required in addition to the camping reservation, and campground check-in begins at 1 p.m.
Private parks each set their own rules. Dakota Ridge RV Park, Applewood RV Resort, Denver Meadows RV Park, and Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community take advance bookings through their own websites or by phone. Flying Saucer RV Park works differently: it does not accept monthly reservations, asks travelers to call about a week before arrival to check for space, and generally favors longer stays with a minimum around five days.
For summer weekends and holidays, booking six to eight weeks out is prudent for any park in the metro area.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Bow Mar lean urban rather than remote. Most parks sit within earshot of a highway or arterial road, and shade varies widely between properties. Pads at Dakota Ridge RV Park are level with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, and the park runs year round with full-hookup options.
Elevation matters. Bow Mar sits above 5,400 feet, so sun exposure is intense, and daily temperatures can swing by 20 or 30 degrees between afternoon and overnight lows. Bring layers, sun protection, and extra water even in shoulder seasons.
Cell coverage is generally strong across all listed parks, and light rail from Littleton and Englewood connects to downtown Denver without moving the rig. Big-rig owners should confirm site length in advance, since some older Denver-area parks have narrower interior roads and tighter pads than newer resorts.
