Campgrounds near Firestone, Colorado
Firestone sits along the Interstate 25 corridor in Weld County, about halfway between Denver and Fort Collins. The town works well as an RV base for travelers who want easy highway access to Front Range attractions without paying Denver-metro prices for a site. Most nearby campgrounds cluster north along I-25 toward Loveland and Johnstown, with a few private RV parks and one large state park within a 30-minute drive.
RV Retreat at Johnson's Corner and Falcons Landing RV Park sit closest to town and cater to full-hookup travelers passing through or staging longer trips. Loveland RV Resort and North Shore RV Park & General Store add resort-style amenities a bit farther north, with North Shore located next to Carter Lake west of Loveland.
Boyd Lake State Park, centered on a 1,700-acre reservoir, offers the only public-agency campground in the immediate area. Rocky Mountain National Park is roughly a 90-minute drive west via Estes Park.
Things to do near Firestone
Boyd Lake State Park is the primary on-water draw. The reservoir supports boating, water-skiing, a swim beach, volleyball, swimming, fishing, windsurfing, sailing, ice fishing and waterfowl hunting, and paved trails run along the shoreline for biking and walking. Water levels can fluctuate and motorized boating has been restricted at times, so verify current lake status with Colorado Parks and Wildlife before towing a boat.
Rocky Mountain National Park is the region's headline day trip, with hundreds of miles of hiking trails plus Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road for scenic driving. Closer to camp, Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins offer breweries, farm stands, and family attractions within a short drive.

Summer is peak season along the Front Range. Days are warm and dry, afternoon thunderstorms are common, and Rocky Mountain National Park operates its timed-entry system. Campers with a park campground reservation can initially enter the park beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their stay, which is also the campground check-in time. Book well ahead for both park campgrounds and the timed-entry permit.
Spring brings the wettest weather and lingering snow at higher elevations, but plains-level parks like Boyd Lake open water access as ice retreats. May has pleasantly warm weather but also gets the most rainfall of any month, while September offers warm, dry weather without the summer crowds, and spring and fall are best for spotting migratory waterfowl.
Winter camping is possible but limited. At Boyd Lake, winter camping runs November 1 to March 31 with a designated bathroom building, and a dump station is available. Fire bans are common during dry stretches, so check current restrictions before lighting anything.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

How to book a campsite near Firestone
Private parks near Firestone, including RV Retreat at Johnson's Corner, Falcons Landing RV Park, Loveland RV Resort, and North Shore RV Park & General Store, book directly through their own websites or by phone. Full hookups, pull-throughs, and long-rig sites are common, but call ahead for slide-out clearances and big-rig access.
For Boyd Lake State Park, a reservation is required to camp, and reservations can be made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613, up to six months in advance of the arrival date. All campers must have both a camping reservation and a separate Colorado State Parks Annual Pass or a Daily Pass.
Rocky Mountain National Park campgrounds book through Recreation.gov. Summer weekends fill immediately when the booking window opens, so set a reminder and be ready at release time.
What to expect on arrival

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Firestone, CO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Firestone, CO?
RV rental in Firestone is an affordable way to explore the Front Range, especially compared to Denver-area hotels for a family. On RVezy, motorhomes near Firestone typically average around $200 to $275 per night, while travel trailers and other towables generally run about $100 to $150 per night. Many hosts also offer weekly and monthly discounts, which adds up fast on a Rocky Mountain road trip. To find a cheap RV rental in Firestone, filter by price, book midweek dates, and consider a towable if you already have a capable SUV or truck. Shoulder-season dates in May or late September often unlock the best pricing, and you will still enjoy great weather for trips to Rocky Mountain National Park.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Firestone%2C%20ColoradoDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Firestone, Colorado?
A standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Firestone, Colorado. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes and travel trailers booked through RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified inside the platform during booking, so there is no paperwork shuffle at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home license. Most first-time renters in Firestone are surprised at how quickly they go from license upload to keys in hand for a Rocky Mountain trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Firestone?
Every RV rental in Firestone, CO booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 25 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage that fits you during checkout, not the host. That means whether you are heading up to Estes Park or just parking at St. Vrain State Park ten minutes from town, you are backed up if something unexpected happens. Review the coverage tiers carefully before confirming, then take dated walk-around photos at pickup. It is a five-minute habit that keeps the whole trip stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Firestone RV rental?
Booking your Firestone RV trip is low-risk thanks to RVezy's built-in cancellation policy. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation terms, and there is a grace period right after booking where eligible cancellations qualify for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and whether extenuating circumstances apply. You do not have to negotiate with the owner, the RVezy team handles it. Book earlier rather than later for popular Colorado summer weekends. You will lock in the best motorhome rental in Firestone, and you are still protected by the platform's cancellation framework if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Firestone RV trip?
Yes, and you have lots of options for a pet-friendly RV rental in Firestone. Many RVezy hosts welcome dogs and cats, and you can filter listings using the Pet-Friendly toggle to see only those rigs. Once you are rolling, Firestone is great for dog owners: the Saint Vrain Greenway and Sandstone Ranch trails are leash-friendly and just minutes from downtown, and St. Vrain State Park allows leashed pets at campsites and on most trails. Rocky Mountain National Park has stricter rules (dogs are not allowed on trails), so plan dog-friendly hikes in Roosevelt National Forest or at Button Rock Preserve instead. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a copy of vaccination records.
cpw.state.co.us/st-vrain-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Firestone?
Yes, RV delivery in Firestone is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is perfect if you are new to RVing or just do not want to drive a big rig through Denver-metro traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your campsite, your driveway, or a friend's house in nearby Longmont, Frederick, or Dacono. They will level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every switch and tank. Delivery is especially handy for popular spots like St. Vrain State Park, just a few miles east of Firestone. Use the Delivery filter when you search, and message the host to confirm the fee (usually based on round-trip mileage). It turns your first time renting an RV into pure vacation mode.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Firestone%2C%20ColoradoHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Firestone?
Firestone's location right off Interstate 25 makes it one of the best launch pads on the Front Range for an RV road trip. From here, Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are about 45 miles west (roughly 1 hour 15 minutes), Boulder is about 30 minutes south, Fort Collins is around 40 minutes north, and Denver International Airport is under an hour away. For bigger adventures, Glenwood Springs is about 3.5 hours, Great Sand Dunes National Park is around 4 hours, and Wyoming's Curt Gowdy State Park is roughly 90 minutes up I-25. On RVezy, some hosts offer unlimited mileage while others include a generous daily allotment with a small per-mile fee beyond that. Check the listing's mileage policy and ask the host if you are planning a longer loop.
codot.gov/travelWhere are the best campgrounds near Firestone, CO?
You have plenty of choices for RV camping near Firestone. The closest is St. Vrain State Park, just minutes from town, with full-hookup sites around several fishing ponds and reservable spots up to six months in advance through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont (about 10 miles west) offers electric sites with showers. Heading toward the mountains, you will find private parks near Loveland and Estes Park along the Big Thompson River corridor, plus options like Dakota Ridge RV Park near Golden for full-service stays. Book St. Vrain State Park the moment your dates open, as summer weekends fill quickly through Colorado Parks and Wildlife's reservation system.
cpw.state.co.us/st-vrain-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Firestone?
Firestone has a semi-arid Front Range climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters, so timing matters. The sweet spot for an RV camping Firestone trip is mid-May through late June and again from early September through mid-October. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to mid-80s, evenings cool into the 40s and 50s (great for campfires), and you will dodge the worst of the July afternoon thunderstorms. July highs can hit 90F or more, and Rocky Mountain National Park's timed entry system gets competitive. Fall brings golden aspens around Estes Park and far fewer crowds. Late September is a local favorite for aspen color, elk bugling in RMNP, and bug-free nights at St. Vrain State Park.
weather.gov/bou/I've never driven an RV before. Is that okay?
Totally okay. Most people booking an RV rental in Firestone are first-timers, and the experience is built to support you. Your host gives a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, slide-outs, water, propane, and tank dumping, and they are a text away during your trip. Firestone itself is an easy launchpad: wide suburban streets, flat terrain, and quick access to Interstate 25 mean you can get comfortable behind the wheel before tackling mountain roads. If you are nervous about size, start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer. Book delivery for your first trip and let the host bring the RV to St. Vrain State Park, level it, and walk you through it, the easiest possible introduction to Colorado RV life.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking in Firestone includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-25, a dead battery at a Rocky Mountain National Park overlook, or a tow off Trail Ridge Road is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their rig, things like how the awning latches or how the generator likes to prime. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip too. Save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Firestone, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate. If you ever need help, you will have everything ready in seconds.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Firestone RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate road trips are one of the best perks of an RV road trip from Firestone. Wyoming is about 90 minutes north up I-25, Nebraska is a couple of hours east, New Mexico is a day's drive south, and Utah's national parks (Arches, Canyonlands) are within reach for a longer loop. Some hosts also allow trips into Canada with advance approval, so message the listing directly before booking to confirm and to handle any insurance paperwork. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. If you are chasing the Wyoming, Montana, or South Dakota national parks circuit, message the host upfront with your route so mileage and cross-border details are dialed in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?
Realistic budgeting makes your Firestone RV trip stress-free. Class A motorhomes typically get 7-10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 10-14 MPG, Class B campervans 16-20 MPG, and towable travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (expect a 20-30% hit to your truck's normal MPG). Colorado gas prices in the Firestone and Longmont corridor usually track close to the national average, with a slight bump in the mountains, so fuel up before you head west to Estes Park or Grand Lake. For a 4-day trip with 400 miles of driving in a Class C, plan roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Apps like GasBuddy can help you spot the cheapest fill-ups along the I-25 corridor.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Firestone?
Sooner is better, especially for summer. Colorado Parks and Wildlife opens reservations six months ahead, and St. Vrain State Park (just outside Firestone) sells out summer weekends within hours of release. National forest campgrounds around Estes Park and Allenspark book through Recreation.gov on a similar six-month rolling window. Private parks near Loveland and along the Big Thompson River usually open earlier and still have midweek availability even in July. For Rocky Mountain National Park's Moraine Park and Glacier Basin campgrounds, set a calendar alert as they are among the most competitive in the country. If summer weekends are gone, target Tuesday through Thursday nights and you will often find availability at St. Vrain even in peak July.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Firestone?
Firestone is one of the easier Front Range bases for RV driving. The town sits at about 5,000 feet on flat plains right off I-25, so you can ease into RV life on wide roads before climbing west. Once you head into the mountains, expect steep grades on US-36 to Estes Park and on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (which closes seasonally, usually mid-October through late May). Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in July and August, high winds across the plains north of town, and the occasional spring snowstorm even in May. Check CDOT's COtrip.org and the Colorado 511 app before any mountain drive. They give real-time chain laws, closures, and weather alerts that will save your trip.
codot.gov/travel/winter-drivingWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Firestone?
Front Range campgrounds make RV life easy. St. Vrain State Park offers full-hookup sites (water, electric, sewer), flush toilets, showers, a dump station, and potable water fill stations, all minutes from Firestone. Boulder County Fairgrounds has electric sites with showers and dump access. Most private parks near Loveland and Estes Park add laundry, Wi-Fi, propane refills, and small camp stores. If you are boondocking on Roosevelt National Forest land west of town, you will need to come fully self-contained as there are no hookups out there. The dump station and potable water at St. Vrain State Park are available for a small day-use fee even if you are not camping there, making it an easy dump-and-fill stop before heading home from any Front Range loop.
cpw.state.co.us/st-vrain-state-parkWhat will the RV itself come equipped with?
Most RV rentals in Firestone come ready to camp. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for anywhere from 2 to 10 depending on the rig, climate control (air conditioning and a furnace, important on Colorado's chilly mountain nights), and seatbelts for passengers in motorhomes. Many listings also include a generator, leveling jacks, an outdoor awning, a TV, and Wi-Fi or a cell booster. Linens, kitchenware, and camp chairs are common but vary by host, so check the listing's amenities section. For an Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park trip, prioritize an RV with a strong furnace and heated holding tanks, as nighttime temps can drop into the 30s even in June at higher elevations.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Firestone%2C%20ColoradoWhat add-ons and options can I expect on a Firestone listing?
RVezy listings in Firestone come with a menu of optional add-ons that let you customize your trip. Common extras include linens and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators (sometimes included, sometimes a daily fee), portable grills, and Starlink or Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's address in Firestone, Frederick, or Longmont, and many hosts offer paid delivery to St. Vrain State Park or Denver International Airport. Mileage policies vary: some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, while others include a daily mile allotment with a small fee per extra mile. Bundle delivery, generator, and a linen kit upfront and you will roll into your campsite with zero setup and not a single extra errand.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Firestone%2C%20ColoradoHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Firestone, CO through RVezy, you pay directly through the platform with a credit or debit card, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held (the amount is shown on each listing before you book) and released back to your card after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid issues, do a quick video walk-around at pickup and dropoff, follow the listing's mileage and generator-hour policies, and return the RV with tanks dumped and fuel topped off as agreed. Most disputes are about small items like a missing propane refill, so save your gas and dump-station receipts on your phone for easy proof and a quick refund.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Firestone during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Firestone are absolutely possible and can be a magical, crowd-free way to see Colorado. Many RVezy hosts keep their rigs available year-round, and you can filter for four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces, which you will want for Front Range nights that regularly drop into the teens from December through February. Several nearby campgrounds stay open in winter, including parts of St. Vrain State Park, and you are a short drive from skiing at Eldora, Winter Park, or Loveland Ski Area. Ask the host about cold-weather prep at pickup, including antifreeze in the lines, shore power needs, and tank-heater usage. A 10-minute orientation turns winter into the best deal of the year.
