Camping near Meridian, Colorado
Meridian is an unincorporated community in northern Douglas County, Colorado, sitting near the interchange of Interstate 25 and Colorado Highway C-470 on the southeastern edge of the Denver metro area. The terrain features gently rolling plains characteristic of the eastern edge of the Front Range foothills, with an average elevation of about 5,890 feet above sea level. That puts RV travelers on the high plains, with quick access to both the city and the mountains.
Because Meridian itself is a business and residential district, most RV camping happens in surrounding communities along the I-25 corridor. Flying Saucer RV Park and Denver Meadows RV Park serve travelers who want a base close to Denver amenities, while Jellystone Park at Larkspur sits south toward Colorado Springs. Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community is an age-restricted option, and Golden Gun Club lies east on the plains.
Meridian works well as a launch point for day trips to Front Range state parks, foothills trailheads, and downtown Denver, all reachable within an hour by RV or tow vehicle.
Things to do near Meridian
Front Range state parks are the main draw. Chatfield State Park offers boating on the 1,423-acre Chatfield Reservoir where visitors can rent or bring a kayak, paddleboard, jet ski or sailboat; fishing for walleye, bass, trout, catfish and perch; and 26 miles of trails including the scenic Chatfield Dam Trail. Chatfield also has one of the largest dog parks in the state, with almost 70 acres of off-leash space.
Families staying at Jellystone Park at Larkspur have on-site attractions to fill full days, including a water zone, an arcade, mini bowling, a campfire canteen, heated swimming pools and hot tubs, miniature golf, a basketball court, and pickleball courts.
Denver attractions, Red Rocks, Castle Rock outlet shopping, and the trailheads at Roxborough and Waterton Canyon are all within reasonable driving distance.

The Front Range has four distinct seasons, and camping patterns follow them closely. Summer, from June through August, is peak season: warm days, cool nights at elevation, and heavy weekend demand at state parks and private resorts. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan hikes and reservoir activities for mornings.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with lighter crowds and unpredictable weather. Late spring can bring wet snow, and September often delivers the calmest stretches of the year, though nights turn cold quickly at Meridian's elevation above 5,800 feet. Fall foliage in the nearby foothills peaks in late September and early October.
Winter camping is limited but possible. At Chatfield State Park, winter camping is available but limited: only C-Loop (sites 103 to 153) is open, reservations are required, D-loop facilities including restrooms, showers and laundry remain open through the winter camping season, and D-loop campsites are closed for the winter. Jellystone Park at Larkspur operates year-round with full hookups.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book campgrounds near Meridian
State park sites use Colorado Parks and Wildlife's central system. A reservation is required to camp at Chatfield State Park, and reservations can be made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance. Visitors also need to purchase a daily or annual Colorado State Parks pass to enter the park, and this fee applies even with a camping reservation.
Private RV parks book directly through their own websites or through third-party platforms. Jellystone Park at Larkspur takes reservations online and by phone, with add-ons such as golf cart and cabana rentals available at booking.
Summer weekends and holidays fill fastest. Booking several months out is standard practice for full-hookup sites near Denver, and cancellation-scan tools can help fill in last-minute plans.
What to expect on the ground
Expect suburban RV parks along I-25 rather than backcountry sites. Most private options near Meridian offer paved or gravel pads, full hookups with 20, 30, or 50-amp electric, and Wi-Fi. At Chatfield State Park, 146 sites boast full utilities with 20, 30, or 50-amp electric, and length limits for RVs and trailers range up to 45 feet.
Elevation matters. Meridian sits near 5,900 feet, so nights are cool even in summer, and generators or propane heat are useful in shoulder seasons. Sun is intense at this altitude; awnings and hydration matter.
Noise is worth researching before booking. Parks along I-25 have some highway sound, and campgrounds near active rail lines can hear trains through the night. At Chatfield, open burning, use of fireworks, campfires at developed campgrounds and picnic areas, and use of model rockets have been prohibited under an effective closure. Verify current fire restrictions with the park before arrival.
