Campgrounds and RV parks near Minturn, CO

The Eagle River and Gore Creek offer trout fishing right in town, and the surrounding White River National Forest holds hundreds of miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, including access to Mount of the Holy Cross via Tigiwon Road. Vail Pass, Camp Hale, and Shrine Pass are popular day-trip destinations for cycling and scenic drives. Water-based activities cluster around nearby lakes. Sylvan Lake State Park is surrounded by the White River National Forest and includes a 42-acre lake and about 1.5 miles of trails, and the lake is stocked, and kayaks and canoes can be rented on site. Sugar Loafin' Campground is one mile from Turquoise Lake, with a scenic drive around the lake and a hiking trail that circles the east and north shores. In winter the corridor pivots to skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek, plus cross-country and snowshoe trails.

Summer is the peak window for RV travel in the Minturn area. Days are warm, most private parks are fully open, and forest service roads are clear. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with unpredictable weather. Snow can linger at higher trailheads into June, and the first hard freeze often arrives by mid-September. Fall brings aspen color from mid-September through early October, followed by a rapid cool-down. Winter narrows the options considerably. Sugar Loafin' operates from mid-May through October 1, while at Sylvan Lake State Park Elk Run Campground closes from November through April, and Fisherman's Paradise and cabins remain available year-round. Winter camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with dates running November 1 through May 14. Fire restrictions are common in summer, so check current bans before your trip.

Facilities range widely. Private parks like Sugar Loafin' Campground and Tiger Run RV Resort offer full hookups, laundry, and camp stores. Sugar Loafin' provides full-hookup, drive-through and back-in sites, water and electric or tent sites on grass, plus two heated shower and restroom facilities and coin laundry. State park and forest sites are simpler. There are no individual site hookups at Sylvan Lake, the camper services building has flush toilets and coin showers in summer, and drinking water and vault toilets are available year-round. Camper tanks should be filled before arrival, though limited potable water is available at the Visitor Center if needed. Cell coverage in canyon locations is spotty, black bears are active, and level pads are not guaranteed, so bring blocks.
