Campgrounds near Stepping Stone, Colorado
Stepping Stone is a master-planned residential community in Douglas County, Colorado, tucked between Highlands Ranch and Parker along the south Denver metro edge. Its location off C-470 and I-25 puts RV travelers within a short drive of both the Front Range foothills and open plains, with easy access to Denver attractions to the north and Colorado Springs to the south.
RV options in the surrounding area range from full-service resorts to no-frills overnight parks. Jellystone Park at Larkspur sits in Larkspur, Colorado, conveniently situated between Denver and Colorado Springs, roughly 25 minutes south of Stepping Stone via I-25. Closer in, Denver Meadows RV Park and Flying Saucer RV Park serve travelers who want quick metro access, while Golden Gun Club offers a more rural setting to the east.
Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community rounds out the mix for older travelers seeking longer-term stays. Elevation across the area runs near 6,000 feet, so nights stay cool even in summer and altitude effects apply on arrival.

The Front Range south of Denver has four distinct seasons, and RV plans should account for altitude and weather swings. Summer, from June through August, is peak season: warm days, cool evenings, and afternoon thunderstorms are typical. Reservations at family resorts book up months out for weekends and holidays. Water features at Jellystone Park at Larkspur are open Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend, and the heated pools and hot tubs run seasonally as well.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with more availability and unpredictable weather, including late spring snow and early fall cold snaps. Wildflowers bloom on foothill trails in May and June, and aspen color peaks in the higher elevations to the west in late September.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Jellystone Park at Larkspur operates year-round with full hookups, though some seasonal parks in the area close between roughly October and April. Freezing overnight temperatures and occasional heavy snow can affect water hookups and road access.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book near Stepping Stone
Most private RV parks in the Stepping Stone area take direct online reservations through their own websites or third-party platforms like Campspot and The Dyrt. For Jellystone Park at Larkspur, booking is done through the resort site or by phone, and golf cart rentals are available in the Ranger Station, but booking ahead online while making an RV site or cabin reservation is recommended.
For summer weekends, holidays, and events like the Colorado Renaissance Festival in Larkspur, book several months in advance. Chatfield State Park reservations can be made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613, up to six months in advance of the arrival date. Peak dates fill quickly the moment the window opens.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Sites near Stepping Stone lean toward developed, hookup-equipped parks rather than backcountry camping. Jellystone Park at Larkspur offers full-hookup RV sites with 20, 30, or 50-amp electric service, and larger sites can accommodate rigs up to 45 feet. Expect gravel or paved pads, picnic tables, and gas fire pits at the resort, since gas fire pits are featured at Jellystone Park at Larkspur so no wood fires are allowed.
Noise and elevation are the two things new visitors underestimate. Train and highway noise can be disruptive, especially at night, and sites higher on the hill tend to be quieter. At roughly 6,000 feet, plan for stronger sun, cooler nights than the daytime range suggests, and slower acclimation for travelers arriving from lower elevations.
