Campgrounds near Stonegate, Colorado
Stonegate is an unincorporated community in northeastern Douglas County, part of the Denver-Aurora metro area and bordered to the east by the town of Parker. Sitting on the high plains near the E-470 toll road, it makes a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to Denver-area attractions while staying close to the Front Range foothills.
RV travelers have several options within short driving distance. Denver Meadows RV Park in Aurora and Flying Saucer RV Park in Sheridan offer year-round, full-hookup urban sites close to the metro core. Jellystone Park at Larkspur, roughly half an hour south, provides a family-oriented resort experience with cabins, RV sites, and on-site attractions. Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community and Golden Gun Club round out nearby options.
From Stonegate, day trips to Cherry Creek State Park, Chatfield State Park, and the Rocky Mountain foothills are all within roughly an hour's drive. Denver International Airport sits about half an hour north via E-470, which also makes fly-and-drive RV trips straightforward.
Things to do near Stonegate
Cherry Creek State Park is the closest major outdoor destination. The park sits on an 880-acre reservoir and offers boating, swimming, and fishing for walleye, trout, bass, and perch, plus 35 miles of multiuse trails including 15 miles of paved paths. There is also a marina, swim beach, dog off-leash area, and a family shooting range.
Jellystone Park at Larkspur runs a seasonal water zone, mini golf, an arcade, a jumping pad, and character meet-and-greets with Yogi Bear and friends, aimed squarely at families with kids. Heated pools and hot tubs extend the swim season beyond the summer water park window.
The town of Parker sits minutes away with restaurants and shopping, and downtown Denver, the Denver Tech Center, and the Front Range foothills are all reachable inside a 30 to 45 minute drive.

Summer is peak season along the Colorado Front Range. Warm, dry days and cool nights make June through August the busiest months for camping, and Cherry Creek State Park routinely fills on weekends. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan hikes and water activities for the morning. Fire restrictions are frequently in effect through summer, and Cherry Creek has limited open fires to propane and gas only during stage 2 bans.
Spring and fall offer milder temperatures and thinner crowds. March and April can still bring heavy snow, though storms usually clear quickly thanks to abundant sun and low humidity. September and October are among the most reliable stretches for pleasant weather.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Cherry Creek State Park keeps only the Abilene Loop open from November 1 through March 31, and its dump station closes for the season, reopening April 1. Private parks such as Denver Meadows RV Park and Flying Saucer RV Park operate year-round with full hookups.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book campgrounds near Stonegate
For Colorado state parks like Cherry Creek and Chatfield, reservations are required and are booked through Colorado Parks and Wildlife at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Sites open six months in advance, and same-day reservations are handled online or by phone rather than at the park entrance. A separate daily or annual park pass is required in addition to the camping fee.
Private parks handle bookings directly. Jellystone Park at Larkspur takes online and phone reservations and offers RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. Denver Meadows RV Park in Aurora accepts phone reservations. Flying Saucer RV Park asks travelers to contact the park directly to check availability.
Book summer weekends and holiday weeks as early as possible, since Cherry Creek in particular sells out routinely.
What to expect
The Stonegate area sits at roughly 5,900 feet in elevation on rolling short-grass prairie, so expect strong sun, low humidity, and cool evenings even in summer. New arrivals from lower elevations should hydrate more than usual and take the first day easy.
The nearby campgrounds vary widely in character. Denver Meadows RV Park and Flying Saucer RV Park are urban, no-frills parks close to highways, catering heavily to longer stays. Jellystone Park at Larkspur is a full-service family resort. Cherry Creek State Park delivers a prairie-park experience with modern campsites, hot showers, and a laundry.
Most sites offer 30 and 50 amp service and full or partial hookups. Pets are welcome at the listed parks on a leash, and dump stations are widely available except during winter closures.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Stonegate, CO?
Great news: RV rental in Stonegate is one of the more affordable ways to explore Colorado's Front Range. Expect campervan rentals near Stonegate starting around $125 to $175 per night in the off season, while travel trailers and Class C motorhome rentals in Stonegate typically run $175 to $300 nightly in peak summer. Larger Class A rigs often climb past $325. To score a cheap RV rental in Stonegate, book midweek pickups, travel in May or September, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. RVezy shows total pricing (including the protection plan and service fees) up front, so you won't be surprised at checkout. Pro tip: Stonegate sits right off E-470, so you can pick up your rig and be on I-25 heading to the mountains in under 15 minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stonegate%2C%20ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Stonegate?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular Colorado driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stonegate. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required, even for a 30-foot Class C motorhome. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the booking platform, so there's no paperwork shuffle at pickup. Visiting from outside the United States? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before your trip, usually under $20, and bring it alongside your home license. Most guests are surprised how quickly they get rolling once they meet their host in the Stonegate area.
dmv.colorado.gov/drivers-licenseWhat protection is included with my RV rental in Stonegate?
Every RV rental in Stonegate booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 83 or I-25 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host). Roadside assistance is built in: flat tire on US 285 heading to the mountains? One call and help is on the way, covering tows, jump starts, lockouts, and tire changes. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers on the booking page and pick the level that fits how adventurous your Colorado RV trip will be, higher tiers reduce your financial responsibility if anything goes wrong.

Booking your RV rental in Stonegate is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date, and RVezy support can help in cases of severe weather or natural disasters, common considerations along Colorado's Front Range where spring blizzards and wildfire smoke can pop up. Full details are available in the RVezy Help Center and in your booking confirmation. Pro tip: if a forecast looks dicey before a planned trip into Rocky Mountain country, message your host and RVezy support early so everyone can help you adjust.

Always keep dogs on a six-foot leash at Colorado state parks and pack a tie-out for your campsite. Pro tip: ask your host about a removable seat cover and bring an old towel for muddy paws after Castlewood Canyon hikes.

They'll level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Just filter for 'Delivery' when searching listings on RVezy. Pro tip: delivery is a lifesaver if you're nervous about towing a travel trailer through E-470 traffic, your host handles the driving so you can focus on the fun.

July and August are warm (highs in the 85 to 95 Fahrenheit range) and great for high-elevation trips into the Rockies where it's 15 to 20 degrees cooler. Winter RVing is doable too, Chatfield State Park keeps C Loop open year-round. Pro tip: September is magic for catching golden aspens on a quick run up to Kenosha Pass, just 75 miles southwest of Stonegate.
weather.gov/bou/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay leaving from Stonegate?
You've got this. Stonegate's location is ideal for new drivers: wide suburban streets, easy E-470 access, and you can be out of city traffic in 15 minutes heading toward open Front Range highways. Take a practice loop through the Park Meadows or RidgeGate area before hitting I-25. Pro tip: avoid downtown Denver if it's your first RV trip, head south to Castle Rock or east toward the prairie instead, and use the host's phone number anytime, they want your trip to go well.

Popular interstate runs include Stonegate to Moab, Utah (about 360 miles via I-70), to Yellowstone via Wyoming (around 540 miles), to Santa Fe, New Mexico (385 miles south on I-25), and to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota (385 miles north). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance details, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an RV trip from Stonegate?

Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined), and Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 MPG. Colorado gas prices typically sit slightly below the national average, with stations in Stonegate and nearby Parker often a few cents cheaper than downtown Denver. A round trip from Stonegate to Rocky Mountain National Park (about 220 miles) in a Class C motorhome rental Stonegate will use roughly 22 gallons. For weekday trips or shoulder season, you can often snag sites just a week or two ahead. recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Stonegate?
Stonegate offers some of the easier RV driving on the Front Range. The community sits along E-470 with quick connections to I-25, both of which are wide, modern highways perfect for first-time RVers. Heading west toward the mountains, expect steep grades on I-70 past Idaho Springs and winding curves on US 285 through the foothills. Watch for sudden weather: afternoon thunderstorms are common June through August, and snow can fall above 9,000 feet even in May or September. Wildlife crossings on Highway 83 south toward Franktown are real, especially at dawn and dusk. Pro tip: avoid I-70 westbound on Friday afternoons and eastbound on Sunday evenings, the 'ski traffic' jam adds hours to mountain trips.
codot.gov/travelWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Stonegate?
You'll be well taken care of. Most RV campgrounds near Stonegate offer 30 and 50 amp electric hookups, water spigots, and dump stations. Cherry Creek State Park has 133 sites, modern bathhouses with hot showers, laundry, and an amphitheater. Chatfield State Park provides 146 full-hookup sites plus a year-round dump station and potable water fill, even in winter. Smaller National Forest sites (like Devils Head Campground at 8,904 feet) offer vault toilets and no hookups, so bring water. Where to dump near Stonegate: Chatfield's dump station is open year-round, and many Loaf 'N Jug and Flying J stations along I-25 also offer dump services. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the Front Range, mountain campgrounds often turn potable water off after October.
cpw.state.co.us/state-parks/chatfield-state-park/chatfield-state-park-camping-and-lodgingWhat features come with most Stonegate RV rentals?
Modern comforts, no roughing it required. Most RV rentals in Stonegate come fully equipped: queen or king bed, a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, and a furnace for those chilly Colorado nights. Class C and Class A motorhomes typically include seatbelts for 4 to 6 passengers, a generator for off-grid power, and a TV. Many hosts now include WiFi hotspots, solar setups, and outdoor speakers. Campervan rental Stonegate options are perfect for couples wanting nimble mountain access. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list carefully, and message the host if you need specifics like a roof rack for bikes or a backup camera for your first big trip.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Stonegate?
Hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons for RV rental in Stonegate include camping kits with bedding and kitchenware ($50 to $100), generator use ($3 to $5/hour), bike racks, propane fills, and pet fees ($50 to $150 per trip if not included). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Stonegate, Parker, or nearby Centennial, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary: many hosts offer 100 free miles per day with extra miles around $0.35 each, while others provide unlimited mileage for a flat upgrade. Pro tip: ask the host upfront whether linens, camp chairs, and an outdoor mat are included, bundling these add-ons often costs less than buying separately before your trip.
consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0078-vehicle-rentalHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Stonegate?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Stonegate on RVezy, you pay the rental cost (plus protection and service fees) through the platform, no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your credit card and released after your trip assuming no damage, with the amount set by the host and shown clearly before you book. The total appears clearly at checkout so there are no surprises. Pro tip: do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff with your host (interior, exterior, tires, generator hours, mileage), this protects both sides and makes deposit release fast and painless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park my rented RV overnight in the Stonegate area?
Plan ahead and you've got plenty of options. Stonegate sits in unincorporated Douglas County, where RV parking on public streets is limited, so the safest bet for overnight RV parking is a campground like Cherry Creek State Park (15 minutes north) or Chatfield State Park (25 minutes west), both bookable through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Colorado does not allow overnight camping at state rest areas. Some Walmarts in Parker and Castle Rock permit overnight stays, always call the specific store first to confirm. Pro tip: many Stonegate hosts let you keep the RV at their place the night before pickup or after dropoff for an early start, just ask when you message them.
