Campgrounds near Stratmoor, Colorado
Stratmoor sits just south of Colorado Springs at the base of the Front Range, putting RV travelers within a short drive of Cheyenne Mountain, Pikes Peak, and Fort Carson. The area works well as a base for exploring Colorado Springs attractions without staying inside the city itself, and campgrounds here range from full-hookup private resorts to a modern state park with year-round sites.
The closest options to Stratmoor include Peak RV Resort and Foot of the Rockies RV Resort and Storage, both geared toward RV travelers who want paved sites and quick highway access. Cheyenne Mountain State Park, roughly a ten-minute drive from downtown Colorado Springs, offers a more outdoor-focused experience with full-hookup sites and walk-in tent sites tucked against scrub oak and Ponderosa pine.
Families looking for pool-and-playground amenities often book Colorado Springs KOA Holiday, while Golden Eagle Ranch Campground and RV Park rounds out the nearby options. Elevation across the area runs near 6,000 feet, so nights stay cool even in midsummer and altitude effects should be planned for.
Things to do near Stratmoor
Cheyenne Mountain State Park anchors outdoor activity on the south side of the metro, with about 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails winding through prairie, scrub oak, and pine forest. Leashed dogs are allowed in developed areas and on a subset of trails, so campers with pets should check the current trail map before heading out.
Within a short drive, RV travelers can reach Garden of the Gods, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Manitou Incline, and the Pikes Peak Highway. Pike National Forest sits west of the city and offers Rampart Reservoir, Devil's Head Lookout, and dispersed forest camping for day trips.
For rainy afternoons or family days, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, Cave of the Winds, and the Royal Gorge Bridge (roughly an hour south) fill out the itinerary.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Cheyenne Mountain State Park and the private RV resorts fill quickly on weekends. July and August bring the warmest weather but also the highest chance of afternoon thunderstorms, so campers should plan hikes and drives up Pikes Peak for the morning and secure loose awnings before storms roll in.
September is often the sweet spot for RV travel in the area: crowds thin once school starts, aspen color moves into the higher elevations of Pike National Forest, and precipitation typically drops. October brings the first snowfalls at higher elevations, and by November overnight lows are consistently below freezing.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Cheyenne Mountain State Park keeps full-hookup and tent sites open year-round, while its camper services building operates from April through November. Private resorts around Stratmoor generally stay open in winter, though some services scale back. Spring is unpredictable: March is one of the snowier months on average, and settled spring conditions usually arrive in May.

Was a great experience from start to finish. Allen answered all my questions. Derick was awesome with communication with delivery and return. How to book campgrounds near Stratmoor
Cheyenne Mountain State Park uses the Colorado Parks and Wildlife reservation system at cpwshop.com or by phone. Reservations open up to six months in advance of arrival, and a valid vehicle pass or day-use fee is required for entry in addition to the campsite booking. The maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period, and only one camping unit is allowed per site.
Private campgrounds near Stratmoor, including Peak RV Resort, Colorado Springs KOA Holiday, Foot of the Rockies RV Resort and Storage, and Golden Eagle Ranch Campground and RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and holidays, booking eight to twelve weeks out is prudent, since state park hookup loops often sell out earlier.
What to expect at Stratmoor campgrounds
Elevation is the biggest surprise for first-time visitors. Campgrounds around Stratmoor sit near 6,000 feet, and higher trails climb well above that. Expect stronger sun, faster dehydration, and cooler nights than the daytime high suggests. Bring layers even in July.
Afternoon thunderstorms are a regular summer feature, with lightning a serious concern above treeline on Pikes Peak. Fire restrictions are common, so campers should check current stage restrictions before lighting a fire or using charcoal, since bans can shift week to week.
Sites at Cheyenne Mountain State Park include a picnic table and fire ring, and the camper services building offers coin-operated showers and laundry from April through November. Cell service is generally solid in Stratmoor and at nearby private resorts but degrades quickly once you head into Pike National Forest.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Stratmoor, CO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Stratmoor, CO?
Renting an RV in Stratmoor is more affordable than you might think, with most listings on RVezy ranging from about $90 to $200 per night for travel trailers and pop-ups, and roughly $175 to $350 per night for Class C motorhomes and Class A coaches. Because Stratmoor sits just south of Colorado Springs along I-25, you will find plenty of competing options from local hosts, which keeps prices honest. For a cheap RV rental in Stratmoor, book midweek, travel in shoulder season (April or late September), or filter for smaller campervans. Pro tip: many hosts include generators or solar setups at no extra charge, which saves you from paying for full-hookup sites every night.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stratmoor%2C%20ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Stratmoor, Colorado?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stratmoor, CO. Colorado does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal recreational vehicles, even for big Class A motorhomes you can book on RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens easily through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you are good to go. Most first-time renters in the Colorado Springs area are surprised by how quick and paperwork-free the pickup process really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included with my Stratmoor RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Stratmoor booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the road toward Pikes Peak with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle up to the plan's stated limits and gives renters meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on your Colorado adventure. During checkout you choose from several protection tiers based on how much coverage feels right for your trip. Guests pick the level, not the host, so you stay in control. That safety net is one reason a motorhome rental in Stratmoor feels easier than booking with a traditional rental company.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Stratmoor RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Stratmoor is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after booking that gives you breathing room to finalize plans. Beyond that window, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date and special circumstances like natural disasters, which is a real consideration in Colorado where wildfires or early snowstorms can occasionally affect travel. If something comes up, RVezy support is available to help you sort it out. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Stratmoor rigs for summer weekends, knowing you have a clear cancellation path if your plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Stratmoor RV rental?
Absolutely, many Stratmoor hosts welcome pets, so finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Stratmoor is easy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. Colorado is one of the most dog-loving states in the country, and your pup will have plenty to sniff. Bear Creek Regional Park just up the road in Colorado Springs has off-leash dog areas, and Cheyenne Mountain State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails. Garden of the Gods is also leashed-dog friendly. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or breed notes, and bring a portable water bowl since Colorado's dry, high-altitude climate dehydrates pets fast, especially on summer hikes near Pikes Peak.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CheyenneMountainCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Stratmoor?
Yes, RV delivery in Stratmoor is one of the most popular options local hosts offer, and it's a game-changer if you're new to RVing or nervous about driving I-25 traffic through Colorado Springs. Many hosts will deliver your rig directly to Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Garden of the Gods RV Resort, Mountaindale Cabin & RV Resort, or even your driveway, then set it up, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see options. Pro tip: delivery is especially smart for fifth wheels and big Class A coaches, since you skip the white-knuckle drive up to higher-elevation campgrounds.
codot.gov/travelHow far can I drive on a Stratmoor RV rental, and what about mileage limits?
You've got real range from Stratmoor, CO. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and many listings include a generous daily allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) with some offering an RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Stratmoor you can reach Rocky Mountain National Park in about 3 hours (150 miles), Great Sand Dunes National Park in 3.5 hours (180 miles), Mesa Verde in 6.5 hours (335 miles), and Denver in just over an hour (75 miles). Check the listing's mileage section before booking, and if you're planning a big Colorado loop, message the host to see if they'll bundle in extra miles. Most are happy to work with you.
codot.gov/travel/scenic-bywaysWhere should I camp with my RV near Stratmoor, CO?
You're spoiled for choice with RV camping in Stratmoor and the surrounding Pikes Peak region. Top picks include Cheyenne Mountain State Park (about 8 miles away, full-hookup sites with stunning views and 20+ miles of trails), Garden of the Gods RV Resort (15 minutes north, walking distance to red rock formations), Mountaindale Cabin & RV Resort (25 minutes southwest, shaded forest sites with full hookups), Colorado Springs KOA in Fountain (under 10 minutes south, family-friendly with a pool), and Pike National Forest's Colorado Campground near Woodland Park (about an hour west, lakeside and rustic). Pro tip: Cheyenne Mountain State Park books up months ahead for summer weekends, so reserve through CPW Direct as soon as your dates are locked in.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CheyenneMountainWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Stratmoor?
Stratmoor enjoys one of Colorado's longest RV seasons thanks to its lower elevation (about 5,900 feet) and sunny climate, with over 240 days of sunshine a year. Late May through early October is peak season, with summer highs in the 80s°F and cool nights in the 50s°F, perfect for camping. September is the local insider favorite: aspen leaves turn gold near Cripple Creek and Mueller State Park, crowds thin out, and rates drop. April and early May can be windy with surprise spring snow at higher elevations, while winter RV trips are very doable for cold-weather rigs, especially for skiing day trips. Avoid late July afternoons for mountain drives, since daily thunderstorms roll in like clockwork over Pikes Peak.
weather.gov/pub/coloradoSpringsClimateI've never driven an RV. Is renting in Stratmoor good for first-timers?
Yes, Stratmoor is a great place for your first time renting an RV. The area sits along flat, easy-to-navigate I-25 just south of Colorado Springs, so you can get comfortable behind the wheel before heading into the mountains. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures so nothing feels mysterious. If you're still nervous, book a campervan or small Class C (under 25 feet) instead of a Class A, or choose delivery so the rig is set up before you arrive. Pro tip: drive a practice loop around the quiet streets near Fort Carson before heading west on Highway 24 toward Pikes Peak.
codot.gov/safety/safe-drivingWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Stratmoor through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 115, a dead battery at Cheyenne Mountain State Park, or a propane issue at 9,000 feet in Pike National Forest gets handled with one phone call. Your host is also typically your first friendly resource: most are local to the Colorado Springs area and know exactly which mechanic, dump station, or tire shop to point you to. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway. You probably won't need it, but it's reassurance worth keeping handy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Stratmoor, CO?
The road trip possibilities from Stratmoor are incredible. The classic RV road trip from Stratmoor is the Pikes Peak loop via Highway 24 through Manitou Springs and Woodland Park (60 miles round trip with jaw-dropping views). Other favorites: Royal Gorge and Cañon City for the world's highest suspension bridge (about 60 miles southwest), Great Sand Dunes National Park (180 miles south, 3.5 hours), Rocky Mountain National Park via Denver (150 miles north, around 3 hours), and Mesa Verde National Park (335 miles southwest, around 6.5 hours). Heading to Mexico isn't allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance, but the entire Rocky Mountain West is fair game. Pro tip: take the scenic Highway 67 route from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek for fall aspens.
codot.gov/travel/scenic-bywaysWhat kind of gas mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for fuel?
Fuel budgeting is straightforward for your Stratmoor RV trip. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 10-14 MPG, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10-13 MPG), and big Class A coaches run 7-10 MPG. Gas prices in the Colorado Springs metro area generally run a bit below the national average, with multiple Costco, Sam's Club, and King Soopers stations near Stratmoor on Academy Boulevard and South Nevada Avenue offering the best per-gallon deals. For a 4-night trip with 400 total miles in a Class C, budget roughly $150-$200 for fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in town before climbing Highway 24 toward Pikes Peak. Prices rise noticeably in Woodland Park and Cripple Creek.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Stratmoor?
For the best campgrounds near Stratmoor, plan to reserve early, especially during peak summer. Colorado state parks like Cheyenne Mountain release reservations up to 6 months in advance through Colorado Parks and Wildlife's CPW Direct system, and prime summer weekends often fill the day they open. Pike National Forest campgrounds (Colorado Campground, Thunder Ridge, South Meadows) book through Recreation.gov, also up to 6 months out. Private parks like Garden of the Gods RV Resort and Colorado Springs KOA take reservations year-round and usually have more last-minute openings. Pro tip: if you're booking inside 30 days for a July or August weekend, check cancellations daily at 7 a.m. Colorado time, when 3-day cancellation windows release fresh availability.
cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/CampingReservations.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around Stratmoor and the Pikes Peak region?
Driving conditions around Stratmoor are very RV-friendly, especially compared to deeper Rocky Mountain destinations. I-25 runs flat and wide right through the area, US 24 west to Woodland Park climbs steadily but smoothly, and most surface streets handle big rigs without issue. The key things to know: summer afternoon thunderstorms can dump heavy rain and even hail between 1 and 4 p.m. (drive in the morning when you can), Pikes Peak Highway has tight switchbacks and length restrictions, so leave the RV at the base, and winter snow can hit fast (carry chains October through April). Watch for high-wind warnings on I-25 between Pueblo and Colorado Springs. Pro tip: bookmark the CDOT COtrip Planner for real-time road and weather alerts.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditionsWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Stratmoor?
Campgrounds near Stratmoor offer everything from full-resort amenities to back-to-basics forest sites. Cheyenne Mountain State Park provides electric hookups, dump stations, potable water fills, hot showers, and laundry. Garden of the Gods RV Resort and Colorado Springs KOA offer full 30/50-amp hookups, Wi-Fi, pools, and on-site stores. Mountaindale and Pikes Peak RV Park add cable and propane refills. Pike National Forest campgrounds like Colorado Campground and Thunder Ridge offer potable water, vault toilets, and fire rings but no electric hookups, so you'll lean on your generator or solar. The closest public dump stations are at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and many Colorado Springs Flying J/Pilot truck stops. Pro tip: top off fresh water in town before heading to forest campgrounds where fills can be limited.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CheyenneMountainWhat's included inside RVs I can rent in Stratmoor?
RVs you can rent in Stratmoor come stocked for real comfort. Most listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, cookware, dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2-8 depending on the rig, climate control (furnace and air conditioning), and outdoor essentials like a hose, leveling blocks, and a folding table. Many hosts add bonuses: bedding and towels, Wi-Fi hotspots or cell boosters (helpful in Pike National Forest's spotty coverage), outdoor TVs, generators, and roof-mounted solar. Seatbelts are provided for everyone traveling, and rigs are inspected before each booking. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message your host to confirm coffee maker, camp chairs, or a Starlink setup. Many Stratmoor hosts include extras for free if you ask.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-off-highway-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Stratmoor?
Stratmoor hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include camping chairs and tables ($5-$15/day), bedding and linen packages ($25-$50 flat), generators ($20-$40/day if not included), bike racks, kayaks and SUPs, propane fire pits, and pet packages. For pickup and dropoff, you can typically meet at the host's address in or near Stratmoor, or pay a delivery fee to have the rig brought to your campground (rates often start around $2-$4 per mile each way). Mileage policies vary by host: some include unlimited miles, others give you 100-150 free per day with a small fee per extra mile. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a generator into one package often costs less than booking each separately, so ask the host for a quote.
codot.gov/business/permitsHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Stratmoor RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Stratmoor is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card right on the platform, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately for each booking and released after a successful trip with no damage or extra cleaning needed. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walk-through video at pickup and dropoff, return the rig with the same fuel and propane levels, dump tanks if your agreement requires it, and give it a tidy sweep before handoff. Pro tip: most Stratmoor hosts release deposits quickly when everything checks out, so leave a clean rig and you will have it back fast.
