Camping near The Pinery, Colorado
The Pinery is an unincorporated community in Douglas County on Colorado's Front Range, sitting between Parker and Castle Rock at roughly 6,300 feet of elevation. RV travelers use it as a base for Denver-area attractions, Castle Rock outlet shopping, and the foothills south of the metro. The closest private RV resort is Jellystone Park at Larkspur, a family-oriented camp-resort on 100 acres with full-hookup sites and cabin rentals just off I-25. North of The Pinery, Denver Meadows RV Park, Flying Saucer RV Park, and Ridgeline at River Run 55+ Lifestyle Community serve the Aurora and east-metro corridor, while Golden Gun Club offers a different option east toward Watkins.
For public camping, Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora and Chatfield State Park southwest of Denver run the nearest reservable campgrounds on Colorado Parks and Wildlife's system. Castlewood Canyon State Park, the closest unit to The Pinery itself, is day-use only and does not offer overnight camping.
Things to do near The Pinery
Castlewood Canyon State Park sits a short drive south in Franktown and offers hiking on several trails ranging from short paved walks to longer routes down to Cherry Creek along the canyon floor, with views of the historic dam ruins from the 1933 flood. Rock climbers work canyon walls, and picnic areas at both the east and west entrances suit a midday stop. Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora adds a reservoir for boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and a designated summer swim beach, plus an off-leash dog park and roughly 35 miles of multiuse trails. Castle Rock and Parker provide grocery, fuel, and dump-station stops, and family-focused stays at Jellystone Park at Larkspur build in pools, a water zone, mini golf, mini bowling, and planned activities.

Plan summer weekend trips well in advance and consider mid-week stays to ease pressure on sites and trails.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with warm afternoons and cool nights. May and September are good alternatives at Cherry Creek, with comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds, particularly on weekdays. Snow squalls are possible into May and as early as October, so monitor forecasts and travel with cold-weather gear.
Winter is the quietest season. Cherry Creek State Park remains open year-round with full-hookup and tent sites available, though some park services run on reduced winter hours. Jellystone Park at Larkspur also stays open year-round, with some amenities operating seasonally. Castlewood Canyon is day-use only and open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

We had a wonderful time renting Barry’s RV! Barry was wonderful to work with, helping me adjust my dates when our plans changed. He was quick to respond, even for small questions. His RV had everything my family of 6 hoped for: bed linens, pillows, towels, dishes, pots and pans, utensils….. on and on. It was so well stocked. The RV was easier to drive than I expected and had several external cameras for helping with turns and lane changes. Barry made our trip a success and I can’t wait to rent from him again!

Barry was super easy to work with and will definitely be booking with him again on our next trip to the Denver area!

How to book campgrounds near The Pinery
Colorado state-park campgrounds are reserved through Colorado Parks and Wildlife's online reservation system, with sites bookable up to six months in advance and same-day reservations available online or by phone. Campers need both a camping reservation and a separate Colorado State Parks daily or annual pass for parking. For Front Range parks like Cherry Creek, book summer weekends as soon as the six-month window opens. Castlewood Canyon does not offer overnight camping, so plan it as a day trip from another base. Private resorts use their own systems: Jellystone Park at Larkspur takes online reservations directly, and Denver Meadows RV Park, Flying Saucer RV Park, Golden Gun Club, and Ridgeline at River Run handle bookings through their own offices. Confirm rig length, hookup amperage, and pet rules at the time of booking.
What to expect on the ground
Elevation near The Pinery runs above 6,000 feet, so plan for strong sun, dry air, and cooler nights than the daytime highs suggest. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, sometimes with hail, and quiet morning starts are the norm for hikes and climbs. Wildlife in the area includes rattlesnakes in warmer months at Castlewood Canyon, so keep dogs leashed and watch trail edges. Cell coverage is solid across the Front Range corridor. Jellystone Park at Larkspur sits near active railroad tracks and a busy highway, and reviewers note train and road noise can carry at night, so light sleepers may want to request a quieter site. State-park campgrounds tend to fill on weekends, with shower houses, dump stations, and laundry on site at Cherry Creek. Fire restrictions can change quickly during dry stretches, so check current rules before lighting any campfire.

cpw.state.co.us/state-parks/cherry-creek-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from The Pinery?
The sweet spot for a Pinery RV trip is mid-May through late September, when daytime highs sit between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit and mountain passes are reliably open. Spring weather along the Front Range can flip from sunny to snowy fast, especially in March and April, so pack layers. weather.gov/bou/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and you're far from alone. First time renting an RV in The Pinery is one of the most common reasons people book through RVezy, and every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that covers driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump station. The Pinery itself sits on gently rolling terrain off Parker Road with wide, easy streets, so you can get comfortable before tackling busier I-25 or mountain routes. Start with a short shakedown to Cherry Creek State Park to practice parking and hookups. Pro tip: message your host before pickup with any questions, and consider a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip.
fmcsa.dot.gov/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RV rental in The Pinery, CO includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the standard protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 83, a dead battery at a campground, or a tow on I-25 is handled with one phone call. Many hosts also share their personal cell number in case you have a quick question about a quirky switch or appliance. RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap photos of every system during your pickup walkthrough so you have a quick reference if something acts up at 10 p.m. at a remote campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from The Pinery into other US states is welcomed by most hosts, and Colorado's central location makes epic loops easy. You can drive through Wyoming to Yellowstone (about 8 hours), into Utah for Moab and Arches (about 6 hours), or down into New Mexico for Taos and Santa Fe (about 5 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval and additional paperwork, so message the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: confirm your route in writing through the RVezy messaging system so everyone is aligned before you roll out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Colorado RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, so let's make it predictable. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers towed by a truck average 10 to 14 mpg, and campervans can hit 18 to 22 mpg. Colorado gas prices typically hover around the national average, and you'll find competitive stations along Parker Road and I-25 near The Pinery before heading into the mountains where prices climb. For a 500-mile round trip in a Class C, budget roughly $200 to $275 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Castle Rock or Parker before heading west toward the Rockies, where mountain-town gas can run 30 to 60 cents higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near The Pinery?
Front Range campgrounds book up fast, so plan ahead and you'll have your pick of the best campgrounds near The Pinery. Colorado Parks and Wildlife opens reservations six months in advance through cpwshop.com, and popular spots like Cherry Creek State Park and Chatfield State Park sell out within minutes for summer weekends and holidays. Set a calendar alarm for the morning your dates open. Private RV parks like Jellystone at Larkspur and Dakota Ridge in Golden also fill quickly for July and August. Pro tip: midweek arrivals are far easier to snag, and many state parks release cancellations within 72 hours of the date, so refresh the booking page if you're flexible.
cpw.state.co.us/buy-apply/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around The Pinery?
The Pinery sits at about 6,200 feet in elevation on rolling prairie just east of the Front Range, with wide, well-maintained roads like Parker Road (Highway 83) and easy access to I-25. Local driving is relaxed and beginner-friendly, but heading west into the mountains introduces steep grades, curves, and rapidly changing weather. Afternoon thunderstorms are common June through August, and winter brings occasional snow that the Colorado Department of Transportation clears quickly. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk along Hess Road and Parker Road. Pro tip: check COtrip.org before any mountain drive, fill your fresh water tank only halfway to save weight on climbs, and never rush through Monument Pass on I-25 in high winds.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditionsWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near The Pinery?
You'll find a great mix of comfort and nature. Cherry Creek State Park offers 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, a dump station, and potable water fill stations. Most Colorado state parks have at least one dump station and water fill point even if your specific loop is non-hookup. Where to park an RV in The Pinery overnight outside of a campground is limited, since Douglas County does not allow overnight RV parking on residential streets. Pro tip: top off fresh water at the campground before checkout, since mountain destinations sometimes shut off water seasonally.

Campervans (Class B) are nimble and great for couples, with cozier kitchens and pop-top beds. Pro tip: each listing has a detailed amenities checklist, so filter by sleeps count and must-haves like a generator if you plan boondocking near Pike National Forest.
