Campgrounds and RV parks near North Grosvenor Dale, CT

Freshwater lakes anchor most trips. Chamberlain Lake Campground sits on a 50-acre spring-fed lake with no gas motors allowed, which keeps the water calm for kayaking, swimming, and catch-and-release bass fishing. Bowdish Lake Camping Area has a lifeguarded beach and non-motorized boating on a 300-acre lake, plus organized summer activities and access to hiking trails in the neighboring George Washington State Forest. Indian Ranch offers boating on Webster Lake and a summer concert series in a lakeside amphitheater. On land, Mashamoquet Brook State Park covers more than 1,000 acres of hiking trails, including the Wolf Den National Historic Site. Day trips to Old Sturbridge Village, the Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, and antiquing along Route 169 round out a family itinerary.

The camping season in northeast Connecticut is short. Private parks in the area typically open in mid to late April and close by the end of October or the first week of November. Chamberlain Lake Campground runs roughly from mid-April to early November, while Indian Ranch operates May 1 through October 15. Meadowside Woodstock Inc follows a similar warm-season schedule. Bowdish Lake Camping Area has moved to a primarily long-term seasonal model, so short-term availability is limited and best confirmed with the campground directly. Mashamoquet Brook State Park operates seasonally, roughly Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend. Both the Mashamoquet Brook and Wolf Den loops require reservations at least 48 hours in advance, and walk-ins are not accepted. July and August are peak weeks, with summer weekends, holiday stretches, and the Woodstock Fair over Labor Day filling private parks well ahead of time. Late spring and September usually offer cooler nights, thinner mosquito pressure, and easier availability. Fall foliage in the Quiet Corner typically peaks in mid-October, right before most parks close for the season.

Sites in this region tend to be wooded and level, with a mix of gravel and grass pads. Private parks in the area, including Chamberlain Lake Campground, can handle big rigs up to about 57 feet with water and electric hookups, and some sites add sewer, cable, and Wi-Fi. Indian Ranch is RV-only and does not allow tents. State park loops at Mashamoquet Brook are more basic. Wolf Den has running water and showers on sites 1 through 35, while the Mashamoquet Brook loop uses composting toilets and has no showers. Pets are not permitted at the Mashamoquet Brook state campgrounds, and the on-site dump station is currently closed, so RVers should plan to dump elsewhere. Cell coverage is generally usable but spotty under heavy tree cover.
