Camping near Ave Maria, Florida
Ave Maria sits in eastern Collier County, inland from Naples and within driving distance of some of southwest Florida's largest protected wetlands. RV travelers use the town as a quieter base for exploring Big Cypress, the Everglades, and the Gulf coast without paying peak coastal rates.
Campground options in the area fall into two groups. Full-service private RV resorts cluster closer to Naples and Immokalee, including Crystal Lake RV Resort, Club Naples RV Resort Morgan RV Resorts, and Sun Retreats Naples East. Lake Trafford Marina Inc, on nearby Lake Trafford in Immokalee, offers waterfront access geared to anglers and airboat visitors.
For a more rustic trip, Big Cypress National Preserve has eight frontcountry campgrounds, including Midway, Monument Lake, Burns Lake, Bear Island, Mitchell Landing, Gator Head, Pinecrest Group Camping, and Pink Jeep. Midway is the only campground in the preserve with electric hookups, while Monument Lake offers drinking water and flush toilets but no hookups.
Things to do around Ave Maria
Wildlife viewing anchors most trips. Big Cypress protects bald cypress stands, alligators, black bear, the Florida panther, and a wide range of wading birds, and its designation as an International Dark Sky Park makes for excellent stargazing on clear nights.
On the water, Lake Trafford in Immokalee is a common launching point for bass fishing and airboat tours. The preserve also has paddling routes through swamps and estuaries and hiking and biking trails through its pinelands and prairie sections.
Ranger programs run during the cool months, typically November through March, and include swamp walks and astronomy events near the Nathaniel P. Reed Visitor Center. Private guides in the area also offer swamp buggy tours, photography tours, and kayak rentals.

December - February
75° / 55°F 50 mmDry season; peak RV demand, book months ahead
The dry season, roughly November through April, is the practical RV window. Temperatures are comfortable, mosquitoes ease off, and the region's ranger-led programs are active. Sites at both private resorts and Big Cypress campgrounds fill fastest between January and March, when snowbird demand peaks.
Summer is the off-season for a reason. Heat, humidity, and biting insects intensify from May through September, and afternoon thunderstorms are a near-daily occurrence, often bringing heavy rain, thunder, and lightning before clearing within an hour.
Seasonal closures matter for planning. Monument Lake Campground operates from mid-August through mid-April, while Midway stays open year-round. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in late summer and early fall, so travelers should watch tropical forecasts when booking shoulder-season trips.

How to book
Private RV resorts in the Naples and Immokalee area, including Crystal Lake RV Resort, Club Naples RV Resort Morgan RV Resorts, and Sun Retreats Naples East, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter stays should be booked several months out, and many parks require minimum stays during peak weeks.
Inside Big Cypress, reservations for Midway, Monument Lake, Burns Lake, and Pinecrest Group Camping are handled through recreation.gov. Bear Island, Mitchell Landing, Gator Head, and Pink Jeep operate first-come, first-served with no reservations.
Backcountry trips require a free Backcountry Camping Permit. Permits can be completed online and printed, or picked up at any backcountry trailhead and at both visitor centers before heading out.
What to expect
Private resorts near Ave Maria offer paved pads, full hookups, pools, and laundry. Inside Big Cypress, expectations shift. Midway is the only preserve campground with electric hookups, offering paved pads, 30 and 50 amp service, a dump station, flush toilets, and potable water, but no showers. Monument Lake provides drinking water, flush toilets, and a dump station, but no electric, water, or sewer connections at sites.
Access varies. Bear Island and Mitchell Landing sit on secondary gravel roads, while Gator Head and Pink Jeep are reachable only by off-road vehicle, bicycle, or on foot.
Wildlife is close. Alligators inhabit the lakes throughout the preserve, so swimming is not allowed. Cell service is limited at most Big Cypress sites, and showers are not available inside the preserve.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ave Maria, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ave Maria, FL?
RV rental in Ave Maria is more affordable than you might expect, especially compared to flying into Miami or Naples and booking hotels nearby. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches can run $300 or more. Because Ave Maria sits in Collier County's winter snowbird belt, the best deals appear during the May to October shoulder season when nightly rates can drop 25 to 40 percent. Pro tip: use the price filter on RVezy and message hosts directly about weekly discounts, which many owners happily offer for stays of five nights or longer. A cheap RV rental Ave Maria trip is very doable with a little date flexibility.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ave%20Maria%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Ave Maria?
Good news: your regular Florida driver's license, or any valid US or Canadian license, is all you need to rent an RV in Ave Maria. No commercial driver's license (CDL) and no special RV endorsement are required in Florida, even for large Class A motorhomes up to roughly 45 feet. You just need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and the platform handles identification verification securely during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before you fly in, usually for under $25. Then you're ready to pick up the keys and head toward Big Cypress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included with my Ave Maria RV rental?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Tamiami Trail with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort and budget during the booking process, not the host. Pair that with the host walkthrough at pickup, and most first-time renters tell us they felt far more prepared than they expected when heading out toward Big Cypress or along the long stretches of I-75 known locally as Alligator Alley.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Ave Maria RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far in advance you cancel before your trip start date. Special circumstances such as hurricanes or tropical storms, which Southwest Florida occasionally sees during the June to November Atlantic hurricane season, are handled with extra care by the RVezy support team. The full details are available on the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early for prime January through March dates, then relax knowing the policy has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Ave Maria?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental Ave Maria adventure is one of the easiest ways to travel with your dog in Southwest Florida. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers whose owners welcome four-legged guests, sometimes with a small cleaning fee. Once you're on the road, Collier-Seminole State Park (about 30 miles southwest) allows leashed pets in the campground, and Big Cypress National Preserve permits pets in developed campgrounds and along roadways. Dog-friendly beaches at Bonita Beach Dog Park and Naples' Paws Park give your pup a place to splash. Bring a portable water bowl, since Florida heat hits hard even in winter.
nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Ave Maria?
Yes, RV delivery Ave Maria is one of the most popular options for first-timers and families who'd rather skip driving a big rig down rural Oil Well Road. Many RVezy hosts in the Naples, Immokalee, and Ave Maria area will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at your campground, whether that's Collier-Seminole State Park, Midway Campground in Big Cypress, or a private RV resort. Filter listings by Delivery, then message the host to confirm distance fees, which usually scale with mileage. Your host will arrive, level the rig, connect water and electric, and walk you through every system. You arrive, unpack the cooler, and start vacation immediately.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ave%20Maria%2C%20FloridaHow far can I drive on an Ave Maria RV trip?
An Ave Maria RV trip puts you within easy striking distance of some of Florida's best destinations. Naples beaches are about 35 miles southwest (45 minutes), Marco Island is roughly 45 miles, Everglades National Park's Shark Valley entrance sits about 50 miles south on US-41, Fort Myers and Sanibel Island are 50 to 65 miles northwest, and Miami is about 110 miles east via I-75. Most RVezy hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance, often 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check the mileage policy on each listing before booking, and message the host if your route needs a custom allowance. Pro tip: build a loop rather than out-and-back to save miles.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhere should I camp on my Ave Maria RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice on where to park an RV in Ave Maria's surrounding area. Collier-Seminole State Park, about 30 miles southwest on US-41, offers 105 sites with electric and water hookups for rigs up to 50 feet and a 13.5-mile canoe trail through mangroves. Midway Campground inside Big Cypress National Preserve has electric hookups and a beautiful lake setting for RVs up to 45 feet. Monument Lake Campground (also in Big Cypress) is family-friendly and seasonal, open mid-August through mid-April. Closer to Naples, Naples Motorcoach Resort and Club Naples RV Resort offer luxury full-hookup sites. Reserve Florida State Parks through ReserveAmerica up to 11 months ahead, since winter sites sell out fast.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/collier-seminole-state-park/experiences-amenitiesWhen is the best time to visit Ave Maria in an RV?
The sweet spot for RV camping Ave Maria is mid-November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s and humidity drops to its most pleasant levels of the year. January through March is peak snowbird season with the most reliable weather but the highest prices and fullest campgrounds. May through October brings highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season that runs June 1 to November 30. The shoulder months of late October, early November, and April offer a smart-money compromise: warm sunshine, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates on your motorhome rental Ave Maria.
weather.gov/mfl/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Ave Maria?
You'll do great, and first time renting an RV in this part of Florida is genuinely one of the easier places to start. The roads around Ave Maria (Oil Well Road, Immokalee Road, and Camp Keais Road) are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked compared to coastal cities. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and dumping tanks, and you can text them anytime with questions. RVezy support and 24/7 roadside assistance are one tap away. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 28 feet for your first trip, and avoid driving into downtown Naples 5th Avenue at sunset during peak season.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What if I have a breakdown on my RV trip near Ave Maria?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on Alligator Alley (I-75) or your generator quits at Midway Campground, one phone call gets a technician dispatched. Your host is also a direct lifeline for quirks specific to their RV, and most respond within minutes. Cell coverage is solid along I-75, US-41, and around Ave Maria proper, but it can get thin deep inside Big Cypress National Preserve, so download offline maps before heading into the swamp country. AAA service centers and RV repair shops are plentiful in Naples and Fort Myers if you need parts or follow-up work.
fdot.gov/traffic/its/projects-deploy/road-rangersCan I take my Ave Maria RV rental out of state or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Ave Maria can absolutely cross state lines. Popular multi-state runs include heading north on I-75 to Tampa (about 160 miles) and on toward St. Augustine, or east on I-75 then up I-95 toward Savannah and the Carolinas. Travel into Canada or back into the US may be allowed depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message them before booking if a cross-border itinerary is in your plans. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: confirm your route in writing with the host through the RVezy messaging system so everyone's on the same page.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on an Ave Maria RV trip?
Florida gas prices typically run close to the national average, and Collier County stations near Ave Maria, Immokalee, and Naples are easy to find along Immokalee Road, Oil Well Road, and I-75. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg) for a Class C motorhome, 6 to 8 mpg for a Class A, and 12 to 18 mpg for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. A typical week of driving (300 to 500 miles) usually means $150 to $350 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Immokalee or on US-41 before heading deep into Big Cypress, where stations are 30-plus miles apart and pricier when you do find one.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Ave Maria?
For the best campgrounds near Ave Maria, plan ahead, especially November through April. Florida State Parks like Collier-Seminole open reservations exactly 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime winter weekends often fill the morning they open. National Park Service sites such as Midway and Monument Lake in Big Cypress release through Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window. Private resorts like Naples Motorcoach Resort and Club Naples accept bookings a year out and frequently sell out for the holidays. For summer and early fall (May to October), you can usually grab sites a week or two ahead. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for the exact 11-month-out date and book at 8 a.m. Eastern.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234064What are driving conditions like around Ave Maria?
Driving around Ave Maria is refreshingly easy for an RV. Oil Well Road and Immokalee Road are flat, two-lane (widening in spots), and rarely congested, while I-75 (Alligator Alley) offers a fast, well-maintained route east-west across the state. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms May through October that can drop visibility quickly, and slow down at dusk on rural roads where deer, wild hogs, and the occasional Florida panther cross. Strong crosswinds occur on the open stretches of I-75 between Naples and Fort Lauderdale, so grip the wheel with both hands in high-profile rigs. Avoid driving narrow downtown Naples streets and Marco Island bridges at rush hour with anything over 30 feet.
fdot.gov/traffic/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ave Maria?
Campgrounds near Ave Maria range from full-service resorts to back-to-nature parks, so you can pick the vibe you want. Collier-Seminole State Park offers electric and water hookups, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry, with sites accommodating rigs up to 50 feet. Midway Campground in Big Cypress has electric hookups, flush toilets, drinking water, and a free dump station for campers. Private resorts like Naples Motorcoach Resort and Club Naples include 50-amp full hookups, swimming pools, pickleball, and high-speed Wi-Fi. For potable water and dump stations between stops, most Pilot and Flying J locations along I-75 offer RV lanes. Pro tip: top off fresh water before heading into Big Cypress, where in-park spigots can be limited.
nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhat's included inside a typical Ave Maria RV rental?
Most RVs you'll rent in the Ave Maria area come trip-ready with everything you need to roll into a campground and feel at home. Expect a full kitchen (refrigerator, freezer, stove, microwave), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable beds for the listed sleeps count, dinette and lounge seating with seatbelts for travel, climate control, and a freshwater tank. Many include a generator (essential for Big Cypress sites without 50-amp service), outdoor awnings, and TVs. Wi-Fi is usually a mobile hotspot from the host or your own phone; cell coverage is strong around Ave Maria but spotty inside the preserve. Check each listing's amenity icons, and message the host if a specific item like a bike rack matters to you.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/cell-phone-coverageWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Ave Maria?
When you rent an RV in Ave Maria, hosts often offer convenient add-ons that make the trip smoother. Common extras include bedding and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generator use (often $3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and propane refills. Mileage policies vary by listing: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and a few advertise unlimited mileage, perfect for longer Florida loops. Pickup is typically at the host's location in Naples, Immokalee, or right in Ave Maria itself, and delivery to nearby campgrounds is widely available. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking rather than at pickup; hosts can usually offer a small package discount when you ask in advance.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ave%20Maria%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never in cash to the host, which keeps your booking protected from start to finish. You'll pay the rental total when you book, and a refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. As long as you return the rig in the same condition you received it, follow the mileage and generator rules, and refill the fuel and propane as agreed, the deposit is released back to you shortly after the trip ends. Pro tip: do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff. It takes two minutes and protects both you and the host if any question comes up later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a local insider tip for an RV trip from Ave Maria?
Here's something most visitors miss: Ave Maria itself is a planned town built around the striking Ave Maria Oratory, and the surrounding Collier County backcountry is genuine Old Florida cattle country, not the strip-mall sprawl most people picture. Spend a morning at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (about 20 miles west), where a boardwalk winds through an old-growth bald cypress forest and you'll often spot wood storks, otters, and alligators. Then head to Goodland for Sunday afternoon live music and stone crab on the water. A campervan rental Ave Maria trip lets you chase both wild swamp and Gulf Coast sunset in a single day, which is the magic of Southwest Florida.
