Campgrounds and RV parks near Bay Harbor Islands, FL

Bal Harbour Shops, Haulover Park, and the beaches at Surfside and Sunny Isles are all within a few minutes of the causeway. Families typically split time between beach days on the Atlantic and paddling on Biscayne Bay. Oleta River State Park anchors the outdoor side of a trip: more than 10 miles of intermediate and advanced mountain bike trails, and for beginners, 4 miles of novice trails and 3 miles of paved trail. Canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding are popular at Oleta, and visitors on guided paddling tours and those who rent their kayaks or paddleboards through the concessionaire may use the launch across from the Oleta River Outdoor Center. The Oleta River Outdoor Center rents canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and mountain bikes in addition to offering beach gear and snack items. Day trips reach Miami Beach, Wynwood, downtown Miami, Everglades National Park, and the upper Florida Keys, all within roughly one to two hours by RV or tow vehicle.

South Florida has two clear seasons for RV travel. The dry season runs roughly mid-October through mid-May, with warm days, lower humidity, and the smallest rain totals of the year. This is peak snowbird season across Miami-Dade and Broward, and RV parks near Bay Harbor Islands fill early, especially from January through March. Book several months ahead for winter stays and expect minimum-stay rules at many parks. The wet season brings daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and the bulk of the annual rainfall from late spring through mid-autumn. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk from mid-August through the end of September. Miami has been identified as one of three cities in the United States most vulnerable to hurricanes, mainly due to its location and it being surrounded by ocean and low-lying coastal plains. Shoulder months like late October, November, and early May balance warm weather with easier availability. Summer trips are quieter, but plan around storms and heat.

Most RV parks near Bay Harbor Islands are urban, tight, and paved rather than wooded. Big-rig travellers should confirm site length and slide-out clearance when booking, as many sites in the Miami-Dade and Broward corridor are compact. Oleta River State Park is close to the city but still buggy: the park has both mosquitoes and biting gnats, also known as no-see-ums, which are very active at dusk and dawn, so use insect repellent, limit outside activities during these times, and wear long sleeves and pants. No RVs or campers are allowed in the cabin area; all RVs and campers must be parked in Parking Lot 3, and cabins are primitive with a ground grill and picnic table, centrally located restrooms, and no linens or bedding provided. Expect Miami traffic on I-95, the Julia Tuttle Causeway, and US-1, especially at rush hour and on winter weekends.
