Campgrounds and RV parks near Riceboro, GA

The tidal rivers and marshes are the main draw. Belle Bluff Island Campground has a long floating dock where guests fish, crab, and shrimp, and it accommodates kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes on the White Chimney River. Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, a short drive from the Townsend area, offers birding loops and wading-bird rookeries. Historic stops include the Smallest Church in America at Memory Park in South Newport and Fort Morris State Historic Site outside Midway. Sapelo Island is reachable via the state-run passenger ferry from Meridian, which requires advance reservations arranged through a tour operator or landowning host. Families use Riceboro as a launch point for day trips to Savannah, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island, each roughly an hour away by car.

Spring and fall are the practical windows for RV travel in coastal Georgia. March through May brings warm days, lower humidity, and manageable insect pressure. October and November are similarly comfortable, with lighter rain and cooler nights that make full-hookup camping easy. Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and the region's highest rainfall. August is typically the wettest month in the Savannah area, and no-see-ums, mosquitoes, and gnats are common at riverside sites. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from August into October, so travelers should track forecasts and confirm cancellation policies during those months. Winter is short and mild, with daytime highs generally in the low 60s Fahrenheit and cool nights that occasionally approach freezing. Many independent parks in the area, including Belle Bluff Island Campground, stay open year-round, which makes December through February a viable off-season option for travelers who prefer quieter sites.

Parks in this corridor are generally small and low-key rather than resort-style. Belle Bluff Island Campground is a quiet, partly shaded RV and tent park along the White Chimney River, with 50/30 amp full-hookup RV sites, water-and-electric tent and van sites, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly policies. Sites there can sit close together, so drivers of larger rigs should call ahead about clearance and site length. Coastal insects are a real factor. Bring strong repellent for mosquitoes, gnats, and no-see-ums, particularly around dawn and dusk on the tidal creeks. Cell coverage along US-17 and I-95 is generally reliable, though Wi-Fi at smaller parks can be limited. Grocery, fuel, and hardware needs can be handled in Midway, Riceboro, and Townsend.
