Campgrounds and RV parks near Coon Rapids, IA

Coon Rapids sits in Carroll County along the Middle Raccoon River in west-central Iowa, and it functions as the front door to Whiterock Conservancy, a nonprofit land trust with multiple campgrounds. RV travelers typically anchor at Whiterock Conservancy - Oak Ridge RV Campground, which offers electric hookup sites on a ridge above the river valley and connects directly to the property's trail network. Beyond Whiterock, the surrounding area layers in three Iowa state parks within easy towing distance. Springbrook State Park lies roughly ten miles south near Guthrie Center and covers rolling hills, mature timber, and a small lake. Lake Anita State Park sits farther southwest near Interstate 80 and wraps its campground around a reservoir with electric and non-electric sites. Black Hawk State Park is the longer drive to the north at Lake View, but it delivers one of Iowa's natural glacial lakes and a large lakefront campground. Together these options give renters a mix of full-service state park loops and quieter conservancy sites within about an hour of Coon Rapids.

Iowa state parks use a single reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com, or by phone. Springbrook, Lake Anita, and Black Hawk all book through the same portal, with a mix of reservable and first-come sites depending on loop. Reservations are typically taken during the peak camping season, and cabins at parks that offer them are reservable year-round. Whiterock Conservancy handles its own bookings directly through the conservancy website. The Oak Ridge RV Campground reserves electric sites and horse pens in advance through the Whiterock reservation page, while more primitive Whiterock sites can also be arranged through the same office. Standard cancellation fees apply on the Iowa DNR system, and last-minute weekend availability in summer is limited, so plan several weeks ahead for peak dates.
