Campgrounds and RV parks near Correctionville, IA

Blue Lake is the main draw for water-based recreation, with swimming, fishing, and paddling from shoreline access points, and a swimming beach, boat dock, and fishing access at the state park. Shoreline sites at Lewis And Clark State Park put anglers and swimmers a short walk from the water. History is the other pull. A full-size reproduction of Lewis and Clark's keelboat, constructed by local volunteers and park staff, is on display at the park, though the Visitor Center and Keel Boat Exhibit have been closed during HVAC renovations, so check current status before visiting. From the campgrounds it is a short drive to the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway for hiking and drives through the ridge country south toward Moorhead and Pisgah. Public hunting is available in the adjacent wildlife area.

The camping season in this part of western Iowa is concentrated between mid-spring and mid-fall. The Lewis and Clark State Park campground accepts reservations April through October and is closed November through March. Within that window, April is off-peak, peak runs May 1 through October 15, and October 16 through 31 is off-peak again before the winter closure. Summer weekends and holidays fill fast, and waterfront spots fill quickly during summer months when lake activities peak, so it pays to book early. The KOA and private parks nearby stay open through most of the shoulder season, and Loess Hills Hideaway Cabins and Campground operates year round, which makes it a viable base for late-fall hunters and off-season travelers. Winter conditions are cold with regular snow, and most public campgrounds close entirely. Spring can bring high water along the Missouri River bottoms, while Blue Lake has recently experienced low water levels from ongoing drought, affecting docks and the swimming beach, so check park updates before arrival.

Sites near Onawa lean toward RV-friendly setups. Most sites at Lewis and Clark State Park provide electric hookups only, though a limited number offer full water, sewer, and 50-amp electric service, with clean flush-toilet restrooms and shower facilities, a large playground, swimming beach, boat dock, fishing access, and walking trails. Hundreds of dead or dying cottonwood trees were removed recently, so shaded sites are currently limited. The KOA offers more resort-style amenities, including a pool, WiFi, and deluxe cabins with full baths alongside pull-thru RV sites. Loess Hills Hideaway is a different experience: a small, quiet property in the hills with grassy RV and tent sites, picnic tables, and fire pits, better suited to mid-size rigs than large motorhomes. Travelers should confirm hookup details directly with each private operator before arrival.
