Campgrounds and RV parks near Edgewood, IA

Edgewood sits in northeast Iowa's Driftless Area, a region of limestone bluffs, spring-fed streams, and river valleys that escaped the last ice age. The town is a practical base for RV travelers heading to Backbone State Park, the Turkey River corridor around Elkader, and the small lakes and creeks scattered through Delaware and Clayton counties. Dubuque lies roughly 40 miles east and Cedar Falls a similar distance west, so the area is reachable from major Midwest metros within a half-day drive. Campground options range from full-hookup private resorts to electric and non-electric state park sites. South Lake at Backbone State Park offers electric and non-electric sites with modern shower buildings and a dump station. Deer Run Resort in nearby Elkader provides concrete pads with 30/50-amp full hookups along the Turkey River, and Tri-State Raceway and RV Park in Earlville pairs hookup camping with an on-site drag strip. River of Lakes Campground and Resort and Boulder Creek Campground round out the private options in the surrounding countryside. Most travelers use Edgewood as a quiet overnight or a longer stay for fishing, paddling, and driving loops through the Driftless bluffs.

Backbone State Park campsites are 100 percent reservable through the Iowa State Parks system at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com, and a reservation is required. Standard campsites can be booked up to three months ahead of the arrival date, while cabins and shelters have a longer twelve-month window. The South Lake and Six Pines campgrounds accept reservations from April 1 through November 30 and are closed December 1 through March 31. Last-minute cabin bookings outside the online window are handled by the park concessionaire by phone. Private campgrounds in the area, including Deer Run Resort, River of Lakes Campground and Resort, and Boulder Creek Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Tri-State Raceway and RV Park camping is often tied to the event calendar, so plan around race weekends. For summer holiday weekends, reserve as early as the window opens.
