Campgrounds near Everly, Iowa
Everly sits in northwest Iowa's Clay County, a short drive from the Iowa Great Lakes chain in neighboring Dickinson County. The area's campground options cluster around West Okoboji Lake and East Okoboji Lake, giving RV travelers access to swimming beaches, boat ramps, and paved trail systems within roughly 20 to 30 minutes of town.
Emerson Bay State Recreation Area sits on the southwest shore of West Okoboji Lake and offers a mix of standard electric and full hookup sites suited to larger rigs. Gull Point State Park, established in 1933, provides a shaded setting on West Okoboji Lake and is a focal point for the state park system in the region. Elinor Bedell State Park, on the east shore of East Lake Okoboji near Spirit Lake, is a smaller, newer park with full hookup pull-through sites.
For travelers who want a private-park setting closer to town, Fieldstone RV Park and Cenla Campgrounds provide alternatives to the state system. Together the state and private options cover most trip profiles, from lakeside weekends to longer family stays.
Things to do near Everly
West Okoboji Lake is the region's centerpiece and one of Iowa's clearest natural lakes. Anglers target walleye, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, white and yellow bass, perch, bluegills, crappies, catfish, and bullheads across the Iowa Great Lakes. Boat ramps at Emerson Bay and Gull Point give quick access for kayaks, canoes, ski boats, and sailboats.
On land, the western portion of Gull Point State Park includes a 1.5-mile self-guided interpretive trail, the Barney Peterson Nature Trail, and connects to the wider Iowa Great Lakes Bike Trail system for biking and walking. Elinor Bedell State Park protects restored prairie, wetland, and oak savanna, with a paved trail network and a raised boardwalk over the wetlands.
Arnolds Park and the shops and restaurants of Okoboji and Spirit Lake round out rainy-day and evening options for families.

Summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, is the busiest stretch. Emerson Bay and Gull Point are consistently described as among the most popular campgrounds in the state, so weekends and holidays fill quickly. Independence Day draws especially heavy crowds to the Iowa Great Lakes beaches.
Spring and fall bring cooler, quieter visits with better site availability. Fall color along West Okoboji and the county trail system is a draw in September and October. Winters are cold and snowy with limited camping options in the immediate area, though the western portion of Gull Point stays open for cross-country skiing on the interpretive trail.
How to book near Everly
Iowa state park campsites at Emerson Bay, Gull Point, and Elinor Bedell are booked through the Iowa DNR reservation system at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. All three campgrounds are 100 percent reservable, and a reservation is required to camp. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance and must be made at least 4 days ahead of arrival, with a shorter same-day window during peak dates.
For summer weekends and Independence Day, book as far ahead as possible, since Emerson Bay and Gull Point sites can be full for the entire stay when demand peaks. Private options like Fieldstone RV Park and Cenla Campgrounds are booked directly with each operator and can be useful backups when state sites are sold out.
What to expect on arrival
State park campgrounds in the area offer paved interior roads, modern shower and restroom buildings, dump stations, and a mix of back-in electric and full hookup sites. Emerson Bay has roughly 83 sites split between standard electric and full hookup, with 50-amp service available and a modern shower and restroom building. Gull Point has 112 shaded sites with a mix of electric and non-electric, plus a dump station, but no individual sewer hookups. Elinor Bedell has 8 pull-through full hookup sites that can accommodate rigs up to 70 feet.
At Gull Point, the wooded interior roads have tight turns that larger rigs should navigate slowly. The nearest full-service towns for groceries, fuel, and supplies are Spirit Lake, Milford, Okoboji, and Spencer. Bring insect repellent in summer, a valid Iowa fishing license for anyone 16 or older casting a line, and remember that watercraft must be registered with the state and free of nuisance species before launching.
