Campgrounds and RV parks near Guttenberg, IA

Guttenberg sits on the west bank of the Mississippi River in northeast Iowa's Driftless Area, a region of limestone bluffs and deep river valleys that escaped the last glaciation. Lock and Dam No. 10 anchors the town's riverfront, and Bussey Lake, a backwater within the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, lies just upstream. RV renters have options on both sides of the river. Nearby private campgrounds include River of Lakes Campground and Resort and Boulder Creek Campground, both on the Wisconsin side in the Bagley area. Across the river to the south, Nelson Dewey State Park in Cassville, Wisconsin, sits atop a bluff over the Mississippi. About an hour south of Guttenberg, near the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers, Wyalusing State Park operates two developed campgrounds: Homestead and Wisconsin Ridge. Together they cover most trip styles, from electric sites to shaded, non-hookup bluff-top spots.

Wisconsin state park sites at Nelson Dewey State Park, Homestead - Wyalusing State Park, and Wisconsin Ridge - Wyalusing State Park are reserved through the Wisconsin DNR's Going to Camp system, online or by phone at 1-888-947-2757. Reservations open up to eleven months in advance, and a vehicle admission pass is required in addition to the camping fee. At Wyalusing, Wisconsin Ridge fills fastest, especially the sites with panoramic river views; book early for summer weekends. Nelson Dewey holds some sites for first-come, first-served use after Columbus Day, once the reservable season ends. Private campgrounds such as River of Lakes Campground and Resort and Boulder Creek Campground are booked directly with the operator by phone or website.
