Campgrounds and RV parks near Lawton, IA

At Stone State Park, RV renters can hike ridgeline trails through the Loess Hills with views into three states, explore the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center for exhibits on Loess Hills natural history, and ride multi-use trails shared with equestrians and mountain bikers. The park's day-use lodge and open shelters host picnics near the campground. At Lewis And Clark State Park, families spend the day on Blue Lake. Boating, swimming at the beach, and fishing for panfish, bass, channel catfish and northern pike are all popular. A full-size reproduction of Lewis and Clark's 55-foot keelboat is on display, and the visitor center houses expedition exhibits. Onawa and Decatur, Nebraska, are both within about a ten-minute drive for supplies.

Northwest Iowa runs on a short state-park camping calendar. The Stone State Park campground is closed January 1 through March 31, off-peak April 1 through April 30, peak May 1 through October 15, off-peak October 16 through October 31, and closed November 1 through December 31. Lewis And Clark State Park follows the same schedule, closed November through March and open April through October. Summer is the busy season on Blue Lake and around Sioux City. Sites fill quickly on weekends and holidays, so travelers should book early. Holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day are the tightest windows, and two-night minimums typically apply on weekends May through October, with three-night minimums on holiday weekends. Spring and fall shoulder weeks bring cooler nights and fewer neighbors. Winter camping at Iowa state parks in this area is not available, so RV renters relying on hookups in December through March should focus on private parks such as Sioux City North KOA Holiday or Onawa / Blue Lake KOA Holiday, and confirm winter operations directly.

Stone State Park is small and wooded. The campground offers a mix of electric and non-electric sites plus tent-only spots, so choices for larger rigs are limited. It has a modern restroom and shower building, each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and most sites are shaded. Access roads through the Loess Hills are steep and winding; use the Highway 12 entrance for larger trailers. Lewis And Clark State Park is built for RVs. The lakeshore campground has modern bathrooms and showers, a trailer dump station, roughly a dozen full-hookup sites, and the balance electric-only, with sites suitable for rigs up to about 90 feet. Large cottonwoods shade many lakeside sites, and a playground and boat ramp sit within the campground. The two KOAs offer full hookups, pull-throughs, and family amenities typical of the brand.
