Campgrounds and RV parks near Moville, IA

At Stone State Park, visitors can explore over 15 miles of trails winding through the Loess Hills, with overlooks that take in views of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Mountain bikers have access to about six miles of singletrack, and equestrians share six miles of multi-use trails. The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center at the park entrance covers Loess Hills ecology and hosts year-round programs. Lewis And Clark State Park, on an oxbow of the Missouri near Onawa, focuses on flatwater boating, swimming, and interpretive exhibits tied to the expedition. Sioux City North KOA Holiday and Onawa / Blue Lake KOA Holiday add pools, playgrounds, and cabin rentals aimed at families. Sioux City itself offers the Sergeant Floyd Monument, riverfront trails, and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center for rainy-day plans.

The Sioux City area has a humid continental climate with strong seasonal contrasts. Summers are warm and bring the most precipitation, while winters are cold and snowy with significant snowfall. That climate shapes the local camping calendar, and Iowa state park campgrounds run a defined reservation season, so trip planning is very seasonal. Stone State Park is 100 percent reservable and open from April 1 through October 31, with peak operations from May 1 through October 15. Lewis And Clark State Park follows the same Iowa DNR seasonal pattern. Late May through Labor Day is peak family season, with holiday weekends often booked out weeks in advance at both state parks and the KOAs. Spring and early fall bring milder days and lighter crowds, though spring storms and river flooding can affect Missouri River bottomlands sites. Winter camping is limited to a few electric loops or self-contained options, since water systems are shut down and most private grounds close or reduce services.

Stone State Park camping is compact and rustic by design. The campground offers a small mix of electric sites, non-electric sites, and tent-only sites, with a modern restroom and shower building and water hydrants located throughout. Sites are shaded by mature trees, and larger rigs have limited options. Lewis And Clark State Park offers a more open, lakeside layout with electric sites and shower facilities, better suited to larger rentals. The KOAs at Sioux City North and Onawa / Blue Lake provide full hookups, Wi-Fi, and typical family amenities such as pools and playgrounds. Cell coverage can be spotty in the Loess Hills, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
