Fall brings hardwood color: the park showcases dramatic limestone bluffs, deep ravines, and majestic hardwood forests that create stunning vistas, particularly in mid-October when black maple trees turn golden. Private parks such as BEYONDER Getaway at Sleepy Hollow and Scales Pointe Camping and Boating operate on their own seasonal schedules.

State-park campgrounds in the area offer a mix of hookup levels. At Lake Macbride, the northern unit houses the modern campground with 32 standard electric sites (20/30/50 amp) and 11 full-hookup sites with water and sewer connections, accommodating RVs up to 60 feet in length, while the southern unit features 52 primitive tent-only sites in a heavily wooded area with a shaded, secluded atmosphere near the water. Palisades-Kepler provides 47 total sites including 23 electric sites, 9 non-electric sites, 3 tent-only sites, and 4 buddy sites, with pull-through driveways ranging from 38 to 91 feet. Modern shower and restroom facilities and a trailer dump station serve both state-park modern loops.
