Amana Colonies RV Park sits on 80 acres and offers over 450 campsites, many with full-hookup, 50 amp accommodations on 75 foot campsites. BEYONDER Getaway at Sleepy Hollow, just off I-80 in Oxford, adds pool, beach and pond amenities aimed at families. Scales Pointe Camping and Boating and Cam lo-Dis-E-Ca round out the closer-in choices along Coralville Lake and Sandy Beach Road.
For a state-park experience, Lake Macbride State Park is one of Iowa's most popular state parks, spanning 2,180 acres around an 812-acre reservoir in Johnson County, and the park is divided into northern and southern units connected by the lake itself. The Primitive - Lake Macbride State Park sites occupy the wooded southern unit.
Things to do near Swisher

The camping season in this part of eastern Iowa is tightly seasonal. The campground at Lake Macbride accepts reservations from April 1 to November 15 and is closed November 16 to March 31. Amana Colonies RV Park is open April through October, and most private parks in the area follow a similar shoulder-to-shoulder window.
Summer is the busy stretch. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day fill first, especially the electric loops at Lake Macbride. Reservations are accepted and worth making for summer weekends; arriving after Labor Day tends to mean fewer neighbors and more space to spread out.
Spring brings mud, high water and cool nights, but also fewer crowds and active migration. Fall shoulder season delivers colour in the hardwoods, mild days and easier site availability. Winter shuts most campgrounds; cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are popular activities to enjoy in the winter at Lake Macbride for day use only.
How to book campgrounds near Swisher
Lake Macbride uses the Iowa State Parks reservation system. All 100 campsites are reservable; no walk-up sites, and the campground is closed November 16 through March 31. Reservations can be made up to three months in advance, with check-in at 4 PM and check-out at 3 PM, and maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights.
Private parks book directly. Amana Colonies RV Park, BEYONDER Getaway at Sleepy Hollow and Scales Pointe Camping and Boating each take reservations through their own websites or by phone; big-rig sites and holiday weekends should be locked in weeks ahead.
Cam lo-Dis-E-Ca is a Lutheran retreat centre with a family campground area; contact the office directly to confirm RV site availability, hookups and any group scheduling that may affect public stays.
What to expect
Terrain around Swisher is gently rolling with oak-hickory woods, cropland and reservoir shoreline. Most private parks are level with gravel interior roads; the wide-open sites accommodate large RVs easily, though gravel roads can become problematic in wet conditions. Expect open sun at Amana Colonies RV Park and more shade at Lake Macbride's southern unit.
Hookup levels vary widely. The northern unit at Lake Macbride houses the modern campground with 32 standard electric sites (20/30/50 amp) and 11 full-hookup sites with water and sewer connections, and these sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet in length, while the Primitive - Lake Macbride State Park sites in the southern unit are tent-oriented with no hookups.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall. Cell coverage is generally strong near I-80 and the Cedar Rapids corridor but can thin inside wooded park loops.
