Campgrounds and RV parks near Webster City, IA

Water activities dominate at Brushy Creek. The 690-acre no-wake lake supports fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, crappie, walleye, and muskellunge, with multiple boat ramps, fishing jetties, and a shoreline fishing pier. Two shooting ranges, a sandy swimming beach, and an extensive multi-use trail network open to horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing round out the recreation options. Dolliver Memorial State Park is built around hiking. Nearly six miles of rugged trails lead to the Copperas Beds, sandstone formations that tower about 100 feet above Prairie Creek, and to Bone Yard Hollow, a historic ravine area in Webster County. The Des Moines River offers fishing for catfish, walleye, and smallmouth bass. Ledges State Park adds a trail system through Pea's Creek canyon, a one-way scenic canyon drive, and stone structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The prime camping window in this part of Iowa runs May through October. At Brushy Creek and Dolliver, park staff generally turn water on and open shower buildings and dump stations by mid-April, and start shutting them down around mid-October depending on weather. Early-April and late-October trips are possible, but modern facilities are not guaranteed. Dolliver Memorial State Park closes its campground each year from November 1 through March 31. Ledges State Park closes from December 1 through the end of February, with off-peak shoulder windows in March through April and October 16 through November 30. Peak demand at all three parks aligns with the May through mid-October window, and weekends carry a two-night minimum, with three nights required on major holiday weekends. Equestrian campers at Brushy Creek should note that multi-use trails can close after heavy rain to protect the soil, and the DNR does not guarantee open trails for a scheduled arrival.

Sites in this region generally include electric hookups, with a smaller number of full-hookup sites available at Brushy Creek and Ledges. Brushy Creek's non-equestrian campground has 47 sites, including 37 with electric and 10 with full water, electric, and sewer. Dolliver's campground offers electric sites suitable for RVs along with a modern shower building and an on-site dump station. Ledges provides electric, full-hookup, and non-electric options with modern restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Terrain varies by park. Dolliver is compact and sits deep in the river valley, where cell service is limited. Brushy Creek is much larger and spreads campers across separate non-equestrian and equestrian loops. Standard Iowa state park rules apply: pets on a six-foot leash, no unattended animals, quiet hours enforced, and a maximum stay of fourteen consecutive nights.
