Campgrounds and RV parks near Nortonville, KS

Water recreation drives most trips. Perry Reservoir is known for channel catfish fishing and covers thousands of acres, and Perry State Park has miles of trails through upland forest used by hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Along the Missouri River, Weston Bend State Park features a paved bicycle trail that meanders through woodland, with secluded picnic spots and an accessible scenic overlook. Lewis and Clark State Park draws bird watchers who come to see waterfowl and wading birds on the oxbow lake through the seasons. For a break from the outdoors, the historic town of Weston, Missouri sits minutes from Weston Bend, and Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park adds gaming, dining, and pools within walking distance of the sites.

Northeast Kansas has four clear seasons. Topeka experiences a humid continental climate, marked by a very strong seasonal temperature contrast. Summers are hot, while winters are cold and bring regular snowfall. The area is fairly wet, with precipitation spread relatively evenly throughout the year, though summer tends to be the wettest season. Spring storms can be severe, and tornado watches are common from April through June. Holiday weekends fill fast at the state parks. Perry State Park and the Missouri state parks apply required minimum stays for major holiday weekends. At Weston Bend, reservations are accepted for camping stays during the on-season only, with a required minimum stay for weekends and major holidays from May 15 through September 15. Off-season stays are possible but bare-bones. Weston Bend is open year-round, but showers and potable water are available April 15 through October 31 only, so campers should bring their own water during the off-season, and park gates close earlier in winter. At Lewis and Clark, off-season potable water is available from a frost-free spigot at the dump station near the entrance to the campground.

Expect a mix of shaded, forested sites and open pull-throughs. Perry State Park has rolling, wooded terrain that provides shaded camping in summer. Weston Bend features Missouri River bluffs with hillier terrain and wooded areas providing ample shade from overhanging trees, though overhead branches can pose clearance issues for taller rigs. Site sizes suit most Class C and travel-trailer rentals. The campground at Lewis and Clark has 54 level, spacious sites designed to accommodate even the largest RVs, with driveways ranging up to 96 feet in both pull-through and back-in configurations. Casino and KOA sites tend to be flat concrete or paved pull-throughs suited to larger rigs. Come prepared for weather swings and severe-weather protocols. A weather emergency siren is located on the north side of Weston Bend and can be heard by campers. Pets are welcome at most sites on standard leashes.
