Campgrounds and RV parks near Osawatomie, KS

Osawatomie sits in Miami County in eastern Kansas, roughly an hour southwest of the Kansas City metro. The town lies near the Marais des Cygnes River and Pottawatomie Creek, and it works well as a base for RV trips focused on reservoir camping, fishing, and short drives back to city amenities. The area's anchor is Hillsdale State Park, a Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks property on Hillsdale Reservoir. Scott Creek and Saddle Ridge campgrounds sit inside the park and offer utility sites, boat access, and trail connections. Saddle Ridge is set up for equestrian campers, while Scott Creek is oriented toward standard RV and tent stays with lake access. For full-hookup RV stays, Mills House RV Park sits closest to Osawatomie itself, and Rutlader Outpost RV Park to the east near the Louisburg area offers a larger commercial operation with big-rig-friendly sites. Miami State Fishing Lake, managed by the state, adds a smaller, quieter primitive option for anglers who want to stay close to the water.

Sites at Hillsdale State Park, including Scott Creek and Saddle Ridge, are reserved through the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reservation system, which uses ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to 364 days in advance, and booking two to three months out is recommended for summer weekends. All vehicles entering a Kansas state park also need a daily or annual state park vehicle permit. Miami State Fishing Lake is managed by the state as a primitive area with first-come, first-served camping, so no online reservation is required, though a park permit still applies. Private parks book separately. Mills House RV Park and Rutlader Outpost RV Park take reservations directly through the operators or through third-party platforms. For holiday weekends and any equestrian stay at Saddle Ridge, reserve as early as possible.
