Camping near Valley Falls, Kansas
Valley Falls sits in Jefferson County in northeast Kansas, roughly halfway between Topeka and Atchison and within an hour of Lawrence. The town is small, but its position in the wooded hills near Perry Reservoir puts RV travelers within easy reach of state park camping, a tribal resort RV park, county-run sites in Topeka, and a KOA closer to the Lawrence corridor.
Perry State Park, on the southwest shore of Perry Reservoir off K-237 about four miles north of US-24, is the closest public campground and the anchor for most trips. Perry Reservoir covers roughly 11,000 acres with 160 miles of shoreline, giving families room to spread out on the water without leaving the county.
RVers who want hookups and services rather than a lake setting have options a short drive south in Topeka, including Lake Shawnee Campground and Deer Creek Valley RV Park LLC. Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park sits north of Topeka near Mayetta off US-75, and Kansas City West / Lawrence KOA Holiday works well as a base for day trips to Lawrence or the Kansas City metro.
Things to do near Valley Falls
Water and fishing dominate the local scene. Perry Reservoir is known for its excellent crappie and channel catfishing, and the state park offers a scenic base in the wooded region of northeast Kansas. Trail users get plenty of ground to cover: the park has 25 miles of horse trails and 20 miles of biking and hiking trails through upland forest.
Closer to Topeka, Lake Shawnee Campground puts guests next to a full county park with fishing, boating, sailing, and swimming, plus foot and bike trails, a golf course, marina, tennis courts, shelter houses, ball diamonds, and gardens. A 7-mile paved trail loops the lake. Families staying at the KOA can drive to the University of Kansas campus and downtown Lawrence, or head to Clinton Lake for beach and paddling days.

The camping season runs heaviest from May through early October. Spring brings the wettest weather of the year: May and June are the peak precipitation months in the Topeka area, and thunderstorms with hail and tornado potential are common across northeast Kansas from April into June. Perry State Park stays open through this period, but low-lying Corps of Engineers sites around the reservoir can flood after heavy rain.
Summer is peak season. Holiday weekends carry minimum-stay rules at state and county campgrounds: during Memorial Day weekend a four-night stay is required at Perry State Park, and during the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends a three-night stay is required. Lake Shawnee applies similar rules, with holiday reservations for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day requiring a three-night minimum stay.
Fall brings mild days and thinner crowds, ideal for RV travel. Winter camping is possible at year-round parks such as Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park, Lake Shawnee (limited off-season sites), and the KOA, but state and Corps lakefront services scale back once temperatures drop.
How to book campgrounds near Valley Falls
Perry State Park uses the Kansas state park reservation system. Reservations are made online through ReserveAmerica or ksoutdoors.com, and campsites may be reserved up to 364 days in advance. During the April-October park season online reservations must be made at least three days ahead, and at least five days ahead during the October-March offseason. A separate daily or annual vehicle permit is required in addition to the site fee.
Lake Shawnee Campground takes bookings through Shawnee County Parks and via Campspot, with a phone reservation window for arrivals between May 15 and September 15. Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park books by phone through the resort, and the KOA in Lawrence uses the standard KOA reservation system online or by phone.
Holiday weekends and lakefront sites fill early. Booking two to three months ahead is safe for summer weekends, and longer for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
What to expect on the ground
Perry State Park delivers wooded, hilly terrain with a mix of utility and primitive sites. The park's rolling hills are covered in forest, making it a good spot for shaded camping. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and Topeka services are a short drive south.
Lake Shawnee is more developed and closer to city amenities. The campground has 150 sites with electric hookups (50-amp) and water, plus pull-through options, big-rig access, waterfront sites, and shade trees. Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park is flat, paved, and big-rig friendly, with 67 pull-through spaces and amenities including 24-hour security, shuttle service to the casino, private showers and restrooms, laundry facilities, and 30, 50, and 110 amp hookups.
Expect summer humidity, strong afternoon sun, and the occasional severe-weather warning. Pack layers for spring and fall, and bring mosquito protection near the reservoir.

Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper insurance documentation, so message the host directly. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and insurance do not extend there.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Kansas RV trip?
Fuel in Kansas is typically below the national average, which makes an RV road trip from Valley Falls easier on the wallet. Expect roughly 7 to 10 mpg for Class A and large Class C motorhomes, 10 to 14 mpg for tow vehicles pulling travel trailers, and 14 to 20 mpg for Class B campervans. With Kansas regular gas often near $3 per gallon, a 200-mile loop to Perry Lake, Lawrence, and back will typically run $50 to $90 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at stations in Oskaloosa or Meriden before heading to the lake, prices there are usually lower than at Topeka highway exits, and diesel rigs do best at the truck stops along I-70.

Perry State Park sites are reserved through the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks system, also up to several months in advance. Riverside Park in Valley Falls operates on a first-come first-served basis, so you can simply roll in. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings even in July, and if your dream weekend is sold out, set a cancellation alert, last-minute openings happen often as plans change.

Driving here is refreshingly easy. Winter ice storms can occasionally affect roads from December to February. Pro tip: if you are driving a tall Class A, plan ahead for clearance on older Topeka underpasses and consider the I-70 / US-75 route, your roof will thank you.

Pickup and dropoff times are usually flexible within the host's window. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a full propane tank and you can roll into Perry Lake without a single setup step.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Valley%20Falls%2C%20KansasHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled inside RVezy, no cash or e-transfers with the host. You pay the rental total (nightly rate, fees, protection, and any add-ons) at the time of booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value and your protection level, and it is released back to your card within a few days of return assuming no damage. To avoid issues, do a thorough pre-trip walkaround with your host (photos and video are smart), keep the inside tidy, and return the rig with the same fuel and propane levels you started with. Pro tip: use a credit card with no foreign-transaction fees if you are a Canadian renter, you will save 2 to 3 percent right off the top.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best RV road trip routes from Valley Falls?

For a 3-day trip, drive about 90 minutes west to Manhattan and on to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve near Strong City. A 5-day RV road trip from Valley Falls can hit Lawrence and Clinton State Park, then Wilson Lake State Park (about 3 hours west) for sandstone bluffs and clear water. Heading farther?
