Campgrounds and RV parks near Callaway, MD

Callaway sits in St. Mary's County on the lower Potomac peninsula in southern Maryland, roughly midway between Leonardtown and Point Lookout. The area gives RV travelers quick access to Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River shoreline, with most campgrounds within a 30-minute drive of town. Point Lookout State Park anchors the region at the southern tip of the peninsula, where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. It offers wooded campsites with a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-hookup loops, managed through the Maryland state park reservation system. Take It Easy Campground is a nearby private option, while Coles Point Marina and RV Resort and Smith Point Marina sit across the Potomac in Virginia's Northern Neck and cater to boaters as well as RVs. Taylors Island Family Campgrounds is farther afield on Maryland's Eastern Shore, reached via the Bay Bridge or a longer loop around the head of the bay. Together these parks cover state-run, marina-based, and family-run private options within reasonable driving distance of Callaway.

Point Lookout State Park is booked through the Maryland state park reservation system at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by phone at 1-888-432-2267. Reservations can be made up to 365 days in advance on a rolling daily basis, with new inventory released at 9 a.m. Eastern on days the call center is open. Day-use entry on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend also requires a separate reservation at parkdayuse.maryland.gov, bookable up to seven days ahead. Private parks in the area, including Take It Easy Campground, Coles Point Marina and RV Resort, Taylors Island Family Campgrounds, and Smith Point Marina, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Summer weekends and holiday periods sell out earliest, especially waterfront and full-hookup sites, so book several weeks ahead when possible.
