Water activity drives most itineraries. Janes Island State Park has more than 30 miles of marked water trails winding through tidal marsh and channels that lead to remote beaches on the island's bay side. Anglers enjoy easy access to the Bay and fish for striped bass, spot, croaker, flounder and bluefish, and crabbing is a family favorite. On land, options include short walking trails and a nature center at Janes Island, sunset viewing along the Nanticoke River, and the waterfront town of Crisfield with its ferry docks and seafood restaurants. Roaring Point offers entertainment on most weekends including crafts, bingo, tournaments, live music, and hayrides. Salisbury is about a 30 to 40 minute drive north for grocery runs, supply stops, and rainy-day indoor activities.

The regional camping season runs roughly from late March through late November. Janes Island State Park's mainland campground operates from late March through December 1, while Roaring Point Waterfront Campground is open April through November. Summer is peak: warm bay water, active weekend programming, and high hookup demand at private parks. Waterfront sites along the canal book quickly, requiring advance reservations for prime spots. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Days are warm, humidity is lower, and paddling conditions on Tangier Sound are often calmer. Fall also brings quieter campgrounds after Labor Day and good striped bass fishing. Biting insects are a real factor in summer. The park warns campers to expect biting flies, mosquitoes, and ticks during summer, and recommends insect repellent, a screen room or tent, a head net, citronella candles, and light-colored clothing since flies are attracted to dark colors. Winter camping is limited: most private parks close, and only select state park loops or cabins remain available.

At Janes Island, each mainland site is equipped with a camping pad, picnic table, fire ring and lantern post, and three centrally located bath houses have hot water showers and flush toilets. Check-in time is 3pm and checkout is 1pm, campers must arrive before quiet hours start at 10:00 PM, and those who arrive after 10:00 PM will not be allowed into the park. Consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage is prohibited in all State Park areas including campgrounds, with full-service cabins and motor homes exempt. Roaring Point is a smaller, family-operated park where the majority of sites are 50 by 50 feet, with a mix of full and partial hookups, a bathhouse, laundry, and a camp store. Only two sites have 50 amp electrical service and they do not have a sewer connection, and all sites are back-in, so confirm amperage when booking a larger rig for summer air conditioning.
