Campgrounds and RV parks near Brookline, MA

From the harbor campgrounds, days revolve around the water. Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island has miles of trails, a former coastal defense fort to explore, and quiet beaches, with connecting ferry service to hub islands like Georges and Spectacle for lighthouse tours, tidepooling, and swimming. At Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park, campers can hike or mountain bike over 35 miles of trails and logging roads, paddle several small ponds, and fish across more than 3,000 acres of hardwood, hemlock, and white pine forest. Horseback riding and seasonal hunting are also permitted on parts of the forest. Brookline itself puts campers minutes from Fenway Park, the Emerald Necklace parks, the Museum of Fine Arts, and downtown Boston attractions, easily reached by MBTA Green Line.

The camping season around Brookline is short. Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park typically opens in mid to late May and runs through October, matching the DCR seasonal calendar for inland state campgrounds. Exact opening and closing dates shift year to year with staffing and weather. Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island runs a shorter window, generally from mid-June through the second Monday of October, with camping offered Wednesday through Saturday nights during summer and Thursday through Saturday nights after Labor Day. The season is tied directly to the Hingham ferry schedule, so trips outside those dates are not possible without a private boat. Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island, Boston Harbor Islands - Grape Island, and Boston Harbor Islands - Bumpkin Island are not currently open for public overnight camping, and public ferry access to some outer islands runs only on select weekends. Only 11 sites offer 20/30/50-amp electric and water hookups, so RV renters should book those specific sites early. Massachusetts prohibits bringing outside firewood into any DCR campground; firewood must be purchased on site.
