Campgrounds and RV parks near Dover, MA

Dover sits in the wooded Charles River watershed about fifteen miles southwest of downtown Boston. The town itself has no commercial RV parks, but several established campgrounds lie within a 30 to 60 minute drive, making Dover a workable base for exploring Boston, the South Shore, and the northern edge of Rhode Island. The closest full-service option is Normandy Farms Campground in Foxboro, a large resort-style park with roughly 400 sites and full hookups. Canoe River Campground in Mansfield is another family-oriented option with mostly wooded campsites on the Mill Pond, and Circle CG Farm Campground in Bellingham offers RV sites roughly an hour from Boston and 45 minutes from Cape Cod. For a very different experience, the Boston Harbor Islands are accessible by ferry from Hingham Shipyard. Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park welcomes campers to Peddocks Island, with wooded campsites, miles of trails, scenic beaches, and yurts featuring bunk beds and electricity. Thompson Island is managed separately by the Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center and is not open for general public overnight camping.

Private parks in the area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and summer weekends at the larger resorts often fill weeks or months in advance. Booking well ahead is strongly recommended for Fourth of July, Gillette Stadium event weekends, and October foliage. Boston Harbor Islands campsites use a different system. Reservations on Peddocks Island are handled through ReserveAmerica and can be made up to four months in advance of check-in, so a mid-August stay requires booking in mid-April. Ferry capacities are limited, and campers are strongly encouraged to book ferry passage immediately after making their camping reservation. The ferry to Peddocks Island leaves from Hingham Shipyard; there is no direct service from Boston to Peddocks Island.
