Campgrounds and RV parks near Lexington, MA

The main draw is Minute Man National Historical Park, which follows the Battle Road from Lexington through Lincoln to Concord and connects to the Old North Bridge. Walden Pond State Reservation, Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, and the Battle Green in Lexington Center are all within a short drive of any base camp. At Harold Parker State Forest, recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, hunting, horseback riding, and picnicking. Spacious Skies Minute Man adds family amenities including a heated pool, rec hall, playground, and two dog runs. Berry's Grove sits directly on a lake with its own dock and swimming area. For a day in the city, commuter rail stations in nearby Waltham, Lincoln, and Anderson/Woburn provide a car-free route into Boston.

Camping season in eastern Massachusetts is short and concentrated. State-run campgrounds are typically closed in winter and operate only during the warm months. At Harold Parker State Forest, the camping season typically runs from early May to Columbus Day weekend, so deep-winter trips there are not possible. The island campgrounds run an even shorter schedule tied to ferry service. The Peddocks Island camping season runs from mid-June through mid-October, with campgrounds available Wednesday through Saturday nights throughout the summer and Thursday through Saturday nights in the fall. No pets are allowed on the island; primitive tent camping and yurts are available, tent sites have no electricity or water, though yurts do have electricity. Thompson Island has separate access arrangements through Boston Harbor Now. July and August bring the warmest weather and the highest demand. Fall foliage peaks in mid to late October and pairs well with apple picking in the Nashoba Valley orchards near Littleton. Winter RV travelers have very limited options; Berry's Grove is a year-round park on Lake Mascuppic with full-hookup sites, while most other parks in the area are gated shut.

Sites near Lexington range from rustic to full-hookup. At Lorraine Park, the 91 campsites are spread out to provide a real forest camping experience, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and pedestal grill, with a water spigot on each campsite and a dumping station available, eleven campsites offering 20/30/50 amp hookups, and comfort stations with showers and flush toilets. Cell coverage in the forest can be spotty. Spacious Skies Minute Man is more built out: each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, and 20/30 or 50-amp electrical service, and many offer sewer. Berry's Grove has 24 sites on town water and sewer with 50 amp service and upgraded electrical hookups. Island camping is deliberately primitive. Amenities include composting toilets at campgrounds, drinking water stations, charcoal grills near most sites, and picnic tables, and the park operates under a carry-in, carry-out policy with no trash receptacles on the island. Pack in everything, and plan for cooler, breezier conditions than the mainland.
