Camping near Malden, Massachusetts
Malden sits just north of Boston, which puts RV travelers within easy reach of two distinct camping systems: the Boston Harbor Islands park units offshore and the Massachusetts DCR state forest campgrounds inland. The city itself has no RV park inside its limits, so most renters base their trip at a DCR campground within about a 45 minute drive and use Malden as a supply and transit hub via I-93 and the Orange Line.
The closest RV-friendly option is Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park in Andover, a DCR campground reached by road with a dump station and eleven sites offering 20/30/50 amp electric hookups. The Boston Harbor Islands sites at Peddocks Island are tent and yurt only and reached by ferry from Hingham or by private boat, so RVs stay parked at a mainland campground while campers ferry out.
Combining a state forest base with a day or overnight trip to the harbor islands is the pattern most families use.
Things to do around Malden
From a base at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park, families can swim at the forest ponds, fish, hike, and mountain bike across more than 3,000 acres of hardwood, hemlock, and white pine forest, then drive into Boston for the Freedom Trail, museums, and Fenway Park. The Orange Line at Malden Center offers a car-free way into downtown, which is useful for RV renters who prefer to leave the rig at camp.
On the water, the Boston Harbor Islands units include Peddocks Island, Grape Island, Bumpkin Island, and Thompson Island. Visitors can walk a Civil War-era fort, view historic lighthouses, explore tide pools, hike wooded trails, picnic, fish, and swim. Thompson Island is programmed primarily for group and educational use, while Peddocks holds the reservable public tent sites and yurts.

The camping window in eastern Massachusetts is short. The Boston Harbor Islands camping season runs from mid-June through mid-October, with sites available Wednesday through Saturday nights during the summer season until Labor Day, and then Thursday through Saturday nights during the fall season until Indigenous Peoples' Day. Peddocks Island holds the reservable tent sites and yurts, and the season is tied to the ferry schedule from Hingham.
Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park operates on the standard Massachusetts DCR calendar, with the DCR season running from April through October. Shoulder-season nights can drop near freezing in April and late October, so RV renters should confirm that water systems will still be on at their chosen campground.
Summer weekends fill first, especially in August. Fall brings foliage, cooler nights, and thinner mosquito pressure, which many families prefer for a coastal trip. Winter camping is not offered at these DCR sites.

How to book
Massachusetts DCR campgrounds, including Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park and the Peddocks Island sites in the Boston Harbor Islands, are booked through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to four months prior to the arrival date, and walk-in registrations are not permitted. Peddocks tent sites and yurts book quickly for summer weekends, so setting a calendar reminder for the four-month window is worth doing.
Campers heading to Peddocks also need ferry tickets. Ferry capacity is limited, and campers are urged to book ferry passage immediately after making their camping reservation. The park requests an afternoon ferry from Hingham on the day of arrival and a morning or early afternoon ferry from Peddocks on the day of departure.
What to expect
Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park is a wooded DCR campground with 91 sites, individual water spigots at each site, eleven sites with 20/30/50 amp electric hookups, comfort stations with flush toilets and showers, and a dump station. Renters without a hookup site should plan on dry camping and dump on the way out.
Peddocks Island is a different trip entirely. Primitive tent sites and yurts are available, tent sites have no electricity or water, and yurts include electricity and bunk beds. Composting toilets are provided at each campground, with flush toilets and showers at the Visitor Center. Potable water is available on Peddocks, but campers should still bring at least one gallon per person per day. Massachusetts prohibits transporting firewood into or out of any DCR campground, so buy wood on site.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Malden%2C%20MassachusettsDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Malden, Massachusetts?
Great news for first-time renters: a standard Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Malden, Massachusetts. Massachusetts does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes under 26,001 pounds GVWR, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and most Class A coaches on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers must generally be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home-country license and you're ready to hit the road.

mass.gov/info-details/rules-and-regulations-for-massachusetts-state-parksCan the RV be delivered directly to me or my campground in Malden?
Yes, and it's one of the best perks of renting an RV in Malden, MA. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery Malden travelers love, dropping the motorhome or trailer right at your driveway, a Boston-area campground like Boston/Cape Cod KOA, or Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, then setting it up and walking you through every system. That makes it ideal for first-time renters who'd rather not tow a trailer through I-93 traffic or maneuver a Class A through tight Malden streets. Check the delivery section on the listing or use the Delivery filter, message the host with your destination, and you'll get a quote in minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Malden%2C%20MassachusettsHow far can I travel on a Malden RV trip without burning through mileage?
You have plenty of room to roam. Many RVezy hosts in Malden offer generous daily mileage allowances (often 100-150 miles per day), and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for longer New England loops. From Malden you can reach Cape Cod in about 80 miles, Acadia National Park in Maine in roughly 280 miles, the White Mountains of New Hampshire in 130 miles, and the Berkshires in 140 miles, all well within typical mileage packages. Before booking, message the host with your rough route and they'll often bundle extra miles into your quote for a popular Malden RV trip itinerary.

mass.gov/how-to/reserve-a-campsiteWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Malden, MA?

Prime RV season runs from mid-April through late October, with average highs near 60°F in May, around 82°F in July, and back to 60°F in October. September and early October bring iconic New England fall foliage and cooler nights in the 40s and 50s, which many RVers say is the absolute peak time to visit. July and August are warmest but busiest, while May and June offer green landscapes and lower prices. Tip: aim for the last week of September for unforgettable foliage across the Berkshires and White Mountains.
weather.gov/box/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use it?
You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a full orientation walkthrough at pickup, showing you exactly how to operate the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, and dump valves, so first time renting an RV in Malden feels surprisingly easy. You can also message the host through the listing before booking with any question, no matter how small. Many hosts in the Boston area specialize in beginner-friendly Class C motorhomes and travel trailers, and several offer delivery so you skip the driving anxiety entirely. Tip: take notes or a quick phone video during the walkthrough, and keep RVezy's 24/7 support number saved in your phone for the rare moment a question pops up at the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down or have a problem on the road?
You're never stranded. Every Malden RV trip booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing. If anything happens, whether you're parked in downtown Boston or cruising Route 6 toward Provincetown, one call connects you to dispatch who'll send a local technician. RVezy's customer support team is also available around the clock for non-mechanical issues like questions about hookups, host communication, or trip changes. Tip: snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance card and the RVezy app phone number before you leave the host's driveway so help is always one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Malden RV rental into other states or up to Canada?
Yes, cross-state road trips are one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Malden. New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are all within a few hours, and most RVezy hosts welcome travel across New England. Popular routes include Malden to Acadia National Park (about 280 miles), Malden to Lake Champlain in Vermont (about 230 miles), and Malden to Mystic, Connecticut (about 95 miles). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message the host directly to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel costs and MPG should I budget for?
Easier to budget than most people expect. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 10-14 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes 7-10 MPG. With Massachusetts gas prices typically running in the mid-$3 range per gallon (and diesel slightly higher), a 300-mile weekend loop from Malden to the White Mountains in a Class C averages roughly $80-$110 in fuel. Travel trailers towed by your own vehicle (or the host's, if they deliver) often work out cheapest. Tip: fill up in New Hampshire when possible since fuel there often runs noticeably cheaper than Massachusetts, a smart savings hack for any campervan rental Malden adventurer.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I reserve campgrounds for my Malden trip?
The earlier the better, especially for summer weekends. Massachusetts DCR state park campgrounds open reservations through ReserveAmerica up to six months ahead, and popular spots like Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod, Salisbury Beach State Reservation, and Wompatuck State Park sell out quickly for July and August. Private parks like Normandy Farms in Foxboro and Boston/Cape Cod KOA also book months in advance for peak weekends. For spring and fall trips, you can often grab sites with two to four weeks' notice. Tip: same-day DCR reservations are typically available online, so even last-minute travelers from a motorhome rental Malden booking can score a spot.
mass.gov/how-to/reserve-a-campsiteWhat are local driving conditions like around Malden and Boston?
Totally manageable with a little planning. Malden sits just five miles north of downtown Boston, so the biggest tip is to avoid I-93, the Tobin Bridge, and Route 1 during weekday rush hours (7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.). Once you're north on I-95 or west on Route 2, traffic eases and the roads open into scenic New England drives. Watch for low clearances under older bridges and always check your RV height before approaching the Sumner or Callahan tunnels, which restrict tall and propane-carrying vehicles. Tip: if Boston driving feels intimidating, book an RVezy host who offers delivery, they'll handle the city driving for you.
mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-tunnel-restrictionsWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Malden?
More than enough for a comfortable stay. Most campgrounds near Malden offer 30/50-amp electric and water hookups, with full-service parks like Normandy Farms in Foxboro and Boston/Cape Cod KOA in Middleboro adding sewer hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and camp stores. Massachusetts DCR state parks (Harold Parker, Wompatuck, Salisbury Beach) typically provide electric and water at RV sites plus on-site dump stations and flush-toilet bathhouses. To fill fresh water or dump tanks between stops, dump stations are available at most KOAs and DCR parks for a small fee. Tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter, since Malden-area campgrounds use a mix of both.
mass.gov/camping-at-massachusetts-state-parksWhat's inside the RVs available for rent in Malden?
More creature comforts than you'd expect. RVs available for rent in Malden, MA typically include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, plus dining and lounging space that converts to extra sleeping. Most Class C and Class A motorhomes also feature air conditioning, propane heat, a TV, a generator, and seatbelted passenger seating for the whole crew. Many RVezy hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor camp chairs, and full kitchen kits as included extras or affordable add-ons. Filter by 'sleeps' count to match your group size and message the host to confirm specific features before booking your family RV trip Malden adventure.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Malden%2C%20MassachusettsWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose when I book?
Lots of flexibility to customize your trip. Popular add-ons from Malden-area RVezy hosts include linens and bedding packages ($30-$75), kitchen kits ($25-$50), outdoor camping gear ($20-$60), Wi-Fi hotspots ($10-$15 per day), bike racks, generators, and pre-stocked propane tanks. Most hosts let you pick up the RV at their location or pay a delivery fee (often $2-$5 per mile) to have it dropped at your home, a campground, or a Boston-area event site. Mileage policies vary by host, but you'll see the exact daily allowance and overage rate clearly on each listing. Tip: message the host before booking to bundle add-ons into one quote and lock in your perfect setup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Malden%2C%20MassachusettsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Massachusetts through RVezy, you pay the full rental cost (plus any add-ons, delivery, and the protection plan you choose) securely through the platform, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before the trip, separately from the booking payment, and it's released after the trip ends assuming the rig is returned in the same condition. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, snap photos or a quick video of the interior and exterior, and return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels noted at pickup. That's it, you're road-ready.
