Camping near Palmer, Massachusetts
Palmer sits at the crossroads of the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and Route 20 in the Pioneer Valley, roughly halfway between Springfield and Worcester. The town makes a practical base for RV travellers exploring central Massachusetts because it puts pickup points close to the Mass Pike with wide lanes and gentle grades heading both east and west, plus quick access to Sturbridge, the Quabbin Reservoir region, and the Brimfield antique-show fairgrounds.
Private campgrounds cluster in the surrounding towns of Monson, Brimfield, Wales, and Sturbridge. Sunsetview Farm Camping Area, Partridge Hollow Campground, Oak Haven Family Campground, Mineral Springs Family Campgrounds, and Village Green Family Campground all sit within a short drive and cater to trailers and motorhomes with hookups and dump service. Most private parks in the area offer RV waste disposal, fresh water fills, and dedicated trash handling for campers.
For state-run camping, Wells State Park in Sturbridge sits close to Old Sturbridge Village and Worcester and books through the Massachusetts DCR reservation system.
Things to do around Palmer
The biggest regional draw is Old Sturbridge Village, a living museum in Sturbridge that recreates rural New England life from the 1790s through 1830s, with 59 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm across more than 200 acres. The site sits about 15 miles east of Palmer via I-90 or Route 20. Families with older kids often pair a camping trip with a day at Six Flags New England in Agawam, about 30 minutes west.
Outdoor options are dense. The Quabbin Reservoir sits roughly 20 miles north and offers scenic overlooks, hiking, birdwatching, and picnic areas. Hikers can also head to Mount Tom State Reservation or the trail network at Wells State Park, where more than 10 miles of hiking-only trails cross the property, and paddlers use Walker Pond and the many small lakes in the Brimfield-Wales area.
The Brimfield Antique Flea Market, held on Route 20, is a signature event that draws heavy RV traffic three times each year.

The camping season in this part of Massachusetts is short and predictable. Most private parks open in mid to late April and close by mid-October, and state campgrounds follow a tighter window. Wells State Park operates from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend, with reservations required via ReserveAmerica.com up to four months in advance. Winter camping at DCR sites is not offered.
Summer is the peak. July and August are warmest and busiest, especially around the Brimfield Antique Flea Market weeks in May, July, and September. Weekend sites during flea-market weeks and the July 4th holiday fill months out, so early booking matters.
September and early October bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and fall foliage across the Pioneer Valley. Book foliage weekends by August. Winters get cold with snow, and most local campgrounds close, though a few hosts list four-season rigs with heated tanks.

Rob was a great guy who got us out of a jam when our reservation with someone else fell through at the last minute. The trailer was almost brand new and very clean. Linens are also nice and the kitchen was remarkably well!

How to book campgrounds near Palmer
Private campgrounds in the Palmer area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Sunsetview Farm Camping Area, Partridge Hollow Campground, Oak Haven Family Campground, Mineral Springs Family Campgrounds, and Village Green Family Campground each set their own deposit and cancellation rules, and seasonal-site demand means summer weekends should be locked in by late winter.
For Wells State Park and other Massachusetts DCR campgrounds, bookings go through ReserveAmerica. Reservations are required and no walk-in camping is allowed, and advance reservations can be made same day up until 2 pm on the date of arrival. Pets are permitted at most campgrounds with a limit of four pets per site, and a current rabies certificate must be presented at check-in.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Palmer are mostly wooded, with a mix of back-in and pull-through configurations. Private parks generally offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, laundry, and family amenities like pools and playgrounds. State-park sites are more rustic: there is no longer a dumping station at Wells State Park, so RV travellers should arrive with empty tanks or plan to use a private-park dump station in the area.
Rig-size matters. Wells sits on a hilltop with winding, tree-lined loop roads that present challenges for larger rigs, including tight clearances, overhanging limbs, and sites that require significant leveling. Larger motorhomes and fifth wheels are better suited to the private parks along Route 20 and Route 32.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Full policy details are available in the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Reserve early for the Brimfield Antique Flea Market weeks in May, July, and September, then relax knowing you have flexibility if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Palmer RV rental?
Pet-friendly RV rental in Palmer is easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many hosts charge a small pet fee or ask for extra cleaning, all spelled out clearly on the listing. Palmer is a great launchpad for dog owners: Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary in nearby Wales has leashed-pet trails, and Sunsetview Farm Camping in Monson and Partridge Hollow Campground both allow dogs at the site. Bring a long tether and bowl, and message the host through the listing if you have more than one pup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmer%2C%20Massachusetts&PetFriendly=trueCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Palmer?
Yes, RV delivery in Palmer is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's perfect if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at Quinebaug Cove in Brimfield, Village Green Family Campground, Sunsetview Farm in Monson, or Wells State Park in Sturbridge, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee on the listing. Delivery is a game-changer for the Brimfield Antique Show, since parking a big rig there yourself can be tight.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmer%2C%20Massachusetts&Delivery=trueHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive my Palmer RV rental?
You've got plenty of room to roam. Each Palmer RV rental on RVezy comes with a mileage policy set by the host, usually 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available at a small per-mile rate. From Palmer you can reach Boston in about 80 miles, Hartford in 45 miles, Providence in 75 miles, the Berkshires (Lenox) in 50 miles, and the White Mountains in about 175 miles. Estimate your route before booking and message the host for a custom mileage package on bigger trips.

Some of the best campgrounds near Palmer include Sunsetview Farm Camping in Monson (family-run with full hookups), Partridge Hollow Campground in Monson (quiet wooded sites), Quinebaug Cove Campground in Brimfield (lakeside on East Brimfield Lake with a beach), Village Green Family Campground in Brimfield (closest to the famous Brimfield Antique Show), and Wells State Park in Sturbridge (about 1,400 wooded acres around Walker Pond with great hiking). Each is within about 15 miles of Palmer. Most of these are seasonal, opening mid-April and closing by mid-October, so book your RV camping in Palmer well ahead for summer weekends.
mass.gov/locations/wells-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for a Palmer RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Palmer RV trip, with summer highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s F and crisp fall days in the 50s and 60s. September and early October bring classic New England foliage to the hills around the Quabbin Reservoir and Mount Tom, plus thinner crowds. July and August are warmest and busiest, especially around the Brimfield Antique Flea Market weeks (mid-May, mid-July, early September). Winters get cold with snow, and most local campgrounds close, but a few hosts list four-season rigs with heated tanks if you want a snowy adventure. Book foliage weekends by August.
weather.gov/box/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Palmer?
You'll do great, even if this is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, the generator, slide-outs, water, propane, and dumping. Palmer is one of the easier places in Massachusetts to start: pickup happens on quiet suburban streets, and you're seconds from the Mass Pike (I-90) with wide lanes and gentle grades heading both east and west. Avoid the narrow downtown streets of Boston your first day out. Ask your host to record a quick video of the walkthrough on your phone so you can rewatch it when setting up at camp.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038127034-First-time-renting-an-RV-what-to-expectWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every Palmer RV rental booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something happens on I-90, Route 20, or a backroad up toward the Quabbin, call the number in your booking confirmation and a dispatcher will send help to your exact location. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about quirks of their specific rig. Snap a photo of your tire pressures and the propane gauge at pickup so any issue down the road is easy to troubleshoot.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best road trips from Palmer, MA?
Palmer is an unbeatable RV road trip launch pad. Popular routes include: the Berkshires loop west on the Mass Pike to Lenox and Tanglewood (about 50 miles); Cape Cod via I-90 and Route 6 to the National Seashore (about 130 miles, around 2.5 hours); the White Mountains of New Hampshire via I-91 north to Franconia Notch (about 175 miles); the Maine coast to Portland and Acadia (about 140 to 280 miles); and a Connecticut coast and Mystic Seaport run (about 80 miles south). Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with host approval and added insurance, but RVs cannot be taken into Mexico. Leave Palmer early to beat Friday Cape traffic.
mass.gov/info-details/scenic-byways-in-massachusettsWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost around Palmer?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's easy to budget. Expect roughly 7 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 18 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Massachusetts gas prices generally run slightly above the national average; check stations along Route 20 and near Exit 63 in Palmer for competitive pricing right off the highway. Filling up before crossing into New Hampshire (often cheaper due to lower fuel taxes) can save you a few dollars on a longer RV road trip from Palmer.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Palmer?
Book sooner than you think, especially for state parks. Wells State Park in Sturbridge takes reservations through ReserveAmerica up to six months ahead, and summer weekends often fill within days of the booking window opening. Private campgrounds like Quinebaug Cove, Village Green, Sunsetview Farm, and Partridge Hollow generally open reservations in winter for the upcoming season, and the three Brimfield Antique Show weeks (May, July, September) sell out months in advance. For a regular summer weekend, aim for 2 to 3 months ahead; for foliage in late September and early October, book by July. Midweek arrivals open up far more inventory and often cost less.
reserveamerica.com/explore/wells-state-park/MA/430081/overviewWhat are driving conditions like around Palmer?
Driving an RV around Palmer is genuinely manageable. The Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) runs right through town with wide lanes, gentle grades, and a 65 MPH limit (note the toll, billed via E-ZPass or pay-by-plate). Route 20 and Route 32 are scenic two-lane roads great for slower RV travel. Watch for low clearances on older bridges in nearby Springfield, avoid the narrow streets in downtown Boston, and be ready for sudden summer thunderstorms or fall leaf-peeper traffic on Route 9 toward the Quabbin. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March. Download a trucker-friendly GPS app so your motorhome rental in Palmer is routed around low bridges automatically.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Palmer?
Most campgrounds near Palmer are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Quinebaug Cove, Village Green, and Sunsetview Farm typically offer full or partial hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and often sewer), dump stations, potable water fill stations, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, swimming pools or lake beaches, and camp stores. Wells State Park in Sturbridge is more rustic with no hookups at sites, a dump station, and flush toilets. If your site doesn't have sewer, many local parks offer a pump-out service, or you can dump on your way out at the on-site station, which makes RV camping near Palmer hassle-free.
mass.gov/locations/wells-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Palmer?
Quite a lot. Most motorhome rental listings in Palmer on RVezy come fully equipped with sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, three-burner stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, a TV, and often a generator and outdoor awning. Many include seatbelts for everyone riding, and Class C and Class A rigs frequently have slide-outs for extra living space. Campervan rental Palmer (Class B) options are cozier but easier to drive. Wi-Fi varies by host, so confirm it on the listing. Filter by sleeps count and read the amenities list carefully to match the rig to your crew.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmer%2C%20MassachusettsWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with my Palmer rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Palmer include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generators or extra propane, camping chairs, fire pits, and even stocked pantries, all listed right on the host's page with clear pricing. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Palmer, with most rentals starting between 12 and 3 PM and returning by 11 AM. Many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Bundle add-ons when you book rather than buying gear last-minute, and confirm the mileage policy and pickup time in your pre-trip message.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmer%2C%20MassachusettsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book a Palmer RV rental on RVezy, you pay the rental total through the platform with a credit or debit card (never directly to the host), which keeps your booking protected. A refundable security deposit is also held separately, and it's released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with no damage, missing items, or extra cleaning needed. To avoid any surprises, do a thorough walk-around with photos at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if your host requires it. Keep gas receipts as proof.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Palmer RV rental into Canada or other states?
Interstate travel is generally welcomed, and many guests use Palmer as a base for a wider New England RV road trip through Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York with no special paperwork. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with prior host approval and additional insurance arrangements, so message the host directly from the listing before booking if Quebec or the Maritimes are on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage doesn't extend there. A classic 7-day loop from Palmer hits Acadia National Park in Maine and the White Mountains in New Hampshire, all within easy RV range.
