Campgrounds near Somerville, Massachusetts
Somerville sits just north of Boston, which means RV renters have limited campground options within the city itself and should plan to drive north or take a ferry to reach a site. The closest overnight camping is on the Boston Harbor Islands, a mix of national and state park land reachable only by boat, so those sites work for tent trips rather than RV stays.
For RV-friendly camping, the nearest full-service option is Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park in Andover, roughly 20 miles north of Boston. It offers wooded sites in a large state forest, with electrical hookups on eleven sites, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. It is the practical base for renters bringing a motorhome or trailer into the greater Boston area.
Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island is the island in the group that currently accepts overnight camping reservations. Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island, Boston Harbor Islands - Grape Island, and Boston Harbor Islands - Bumpkin Island are reachable by ferry and pair well with an RV stay at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park.
Things to do near Somerville
From an RV base at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park, visitors can access miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus multiple ponds that offer fishing and non-motorized boating. The forest works well as a quiet day-end retreat after sightseeing in Boston and Cambridge.
Day trips to the Boston Harbor Islands add a very different experience. Visitors can walk a Civil War-era fort, tour historic lighthouses, explore tidal pools, hike trails, and picnic or swim, all within reach of downtown Boston. Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island, Boston Harbor Islands - Grape Island, and Boston Harbor Islands - Bumpkin Island each have their own trail networks and shorelines, while Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island adds the Fort Andrews historic site.

The camping calendar around Somerville is short. The Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park camping season typically runs from early May to Columbus Day weekend, and in mid to late October the campground operates on a Thursday through Sunday night schedule only. Outside those dates the campground is closed and RV renters need to look further inland or south.
On the islands, the season is even tighter. Overnight camping is offered on Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island from late spring through mid-October, generally Wednesday through Sunday nights in summer and reduced nights in the shoulder weeks. Access depends on ferry service, which also runs seasonally.
Summer weekends fill fast. Peak demand runs from late June through August. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October usually bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier reservations at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park.

How to book campgrounds near Somerville
Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Reservations are required through the DCR reservation system on ReserveAmerica, and walk-in camping is not permitted. Advance reservations can be made same day up until 2 pm on the date of arrival, which gives some flexibility for last-minute planning. Reservations can be made up to four months prior to the arrival date.
Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island uses the same DCR reservation system. Campers should also reserve ferry tickets through the Boston Harbor Islands ticketing page, since ferry capacity is limited. Booking ferry passage immediately after making the camping reservation is strongly encouraged.
What to expect at campgrounds near Somerville
Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park is set in mixed hardwood, hemlock, and white pine forest. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with pedestal grill, and an individual water spigot. Eleven sites have 20/30/50 AMP electrical hookups for RVs, comfort stations offer flush toilets and hot showers, and an RV dump station is available. It handles tents, trailers, and RVs up to about 40 feet.
The Boston Harbor Islands are a very different experience and not RV-appropriate. Amenities are limited to composting toilets with no showers and no supplies, and campers must carry in all water and pack out their trash. Massachusetts prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of any DCR campground, which applies at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park as well.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Somerville, MA?
RV rental in Somerville is often more affordable than hotel stays in Greater Boston. On RVezy, motorhome rentals near Somerville typically average around $200 to $250 per night, while travel trailers are usually closer to $100 to $150 per night. Many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings, which helps when you are road-tripping the New England coast. For a cheap RV rental Somerville option, filter for travel trailers and pop-ups, then book midweek in May or September to skip peak-summer pricing. Pro tip: bundling delivery into your booking often costs less than driving an unfamiliar rig through Somerville's tight streets.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somerville,%20MassachusettsWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Somerville?
Your regular Massachusetts (or out-of-state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Somerville. There is no commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement required for any motorhome or travel trailer on RVezy, whether it is a Class B campervan or a 30-foot Class C. Approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform when you book. Visiting from overseas for a Boston-area trip? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home auto club before you fly, and you are cleared to drive.

Yes, every RV rental in Somerville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real peace of mind whether you are navigating to a campground in the Berkshires or up to the White Mountains. During checkout, you can choose the protection level that fits your comfort, with tiers ranging from standard to premium coverage. Pro tip: select your protection tier before you book so your quote reflects the all-in price.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my Somerville plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Somerville is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. That means if your concert at MGM Music Hall at Fenway gets rescheduled or a nor'easter rolls in, you have flexibility built in. Cancellation terms depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. Because the policy is consistent across every listing, you do not have to compare fine print between hosts. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates and your RV, then review the full cancellation details on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Somerville RV trip?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental Somerville options are easy to find on RVezy, just flip on the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see rigs whose owners welcome four-legged co-pilots. Many Somerville hosts are dog people themselves, so they often include a water bowl, blanket, or seatbelt harness. Once you are rolling, your pup will love the trails at Middlesex Fells Reservation just north of the city and pet-friendly campgrounds like Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton and Normandy Farms in Foxborough. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask for their favorite dog-friendly stops along your route.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somerville,%20MassachusettsCan the RV be delivered to me in Somerville?
Yes, and it is honestly the smartest way to start a Somerville RV trip. RV delivery Somerville is offered by many RVezy hosts, who will bring the rig straight to your campground, hotel, driveway, or even a friend's house in nearby Cambridge or Medford. They handle the setup, the leveling, the hookups, and a full walkthrough so you never have to drive a 28-foot motorhome down Highland Avenue or squeeze through Davis Square. Delivery is a paid add-on set by each host, usually based on mileage from their location. Pro tip: ask about delivery directly to your first campground, like Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton, so your vacation starts the moment you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somerville,%20MassachusettsHow far can I drive on a Somerville RV rental?
You can go the distance from Somerville, the mileage policy is set per listing by the host, and many offer generous daily allowances or an RV rental with unlimited mileage option. From Somerville, popular trips include Acadia National Park in Maine (about 280 miles, 5 hours), the White Mountains in New Hampshire (140 miles, 2.5 hours), Cape Cod National Seashore (110 miles, 2 hours), and the Berkshires (135 miles, 2.5 hours). Check the mileage allowance on the listing page before you book, then message the host if you need extra miles for a longer RV road trip from Somerville. Pro tip: weekly bookings often unlock the highest mileage caps.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somerville,%20MassachusettsWhere can I park or camp overnight in an RV near Somerville?
You will not be parking an RV on a Somerville side street, the city restricts RV storage on residential properties and enforces overnight parking rules, but you have excellent campgrounds within a short drive. The closest options for RV camping Somerville travelers love are Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton (about 30 miles west), Harold Parker State Forest's Lorraine Park Campground in Andover (25 miles north), Wompatuck State Park in Hingham (25 miles southeast), and Normandy Farms in Foxborough (30 miles south). Pro tip: pick up your RV, load it at a friend's driveway or a parking lot with permission, then head straight to your campground the same day to keep things simple.
somervillema.gov/departments/parking-departmentWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Somerville?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Somerville, with summer (June through August) bringing warm days in the 75 to 85°F range and the best campground availability across New England. But the real insider pick is late September into mid-October: foliage explodes across the Berkshires, Vermont, and New Hampshire, daytime temps sit in the comfortable 55 to 70°F range, and campsite prices drop. Winter trips are possible but most regional campgrounds close by November, and overnight temps regularly dip below freezing. Pro tip: book a Columbus Day weekend rental at least three months ahead, leaf-peeping season is the most competitive booking window in the Northeast.
weather.gov/box/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay?
You'll be more than okay, Somerville is actually a fantastic place for first time renting an RV because nearly every host offers a thorough walkthrough at pickup or delivery. They'll show you how the propane, water, slide-outs, generator, and dump valves work, and most send you off with a written cheat sheet too. You can also message the host directly through RVezy with any pre-trip questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. If Somerville's narrow streets feel intimidating, just request delivery and let the host handle the city driving. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C or Class B campervan rental Somerville hosts offer, they're easier to maneuver and park than a 35-foot Class A.
mass.gov/topics/driver-licensingWhat happens if I break down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every motorhome rental Somerville booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on I-93, a dead battery in the White Mountains, or a lockout at a rest stop on the Mass Pike, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, most are quick to respond with troubleshooting tips for their specific rig. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number and your VIN before you leave the driveway so everything is at your fingertips.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I drive my Somerville RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes to other states, and often yes to Canada with a little planning. Interstate travel is standard, your RV rental Massachusetts trip can easily roam New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut without any extra paperwork. For Canada (think Quebec City or the Bay of Fundy), it is host-dependent because of insurance coverage, so message the owner before booking to confirm cross-border travel is allowed and disclose your route. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: from Somerville, the Quebec City run is about 380 miles via I-93 and I-89, a popular long-weekend route once you have the host's green light.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and the fuel won't surprise you. Most Class C motorhomes near Somerville get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans manage 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (figure 10 to 14 MPG for a typical SUV or pickup). Massachusetts gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so for a 500-mile weekend loop in a Class C you're looking at roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Most rigs near Somerville take regular unleaded, but always check the listing, a few larger Class A models run on diesel. Pro tip: fill up in New Hampshire on your way back from the White Mountains, no state sales tax means noticeably cheaper gas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Somerville?
Sooner is better, especially for summer and fall foliage weekends. Massachusetts state park campgrounds like Wompatuck State Park, Harold Parker State Forest, and Salisbury Beach State Reservation open reservations through ReserveAmerica up to six months ahead, and prime weekends from Memorial Day through Columbus Day sell out within days of opening. Private parks like Normandy Farms and Boston Minuteman Campground book through their own websites and often fill 2 to 4 months out for summer Saturdays. For a last-minute getaway, Sunday-through-Thursday stays in late spring or after mid-October are usually wide open. Pro tip: lock in your campground first, then book your RV around it, the campground is the harder reservation to get.
reserveamerica.com/What's it like driving an RV in and around Somerville?
Honest truth: Somerville itself is dense, with narrow one-way streets, tight residential corners, and the famously chaotic Boston-area rotaries, so most renters skip city driving and use delivery instead. Once you're on I-93, I-95 (Route 128), or the Mass Pike, RV driving is straightforward. Watch for low-clearance bridges on Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive (both ban RVs and trucks), and avoid downtown Boston entirely with anything over 20 feet. North and west of the city, the roads open up beautifully toward the White Mountains, Berkshires, and Cape Cod. Pro tip: program your GPS to RV mode or use an app like RV Trip Wizard, it routes you around those infamous Storrow Drive overpasses that snag a truck every September.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Somerville?
You will be well taken care of. Most campgrounds within an hour of Somerville offer water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, with many private parks (like Normandy Farms in Foxborough and Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton) adding sewer hookups, Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. State park campgrounds such as Wompatuck and Harold Parker tend to be more rustic, electric and water only, with shared dump stations on site. Fresh water fill-ups and dump stations are standard at almost every campground for registered guests. Pro tip: if you need a mid-trip dump or water fill between stops, several private campgrounds allow non-guest dumping for a small fee, handy on a Cape Cod loop.
mass.gov/locations/state-parks-forests-and-reservationsWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Somerville?
More than you'd guess. Somerville-area RVs on RVezy typically come kitted out with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (most rigs sleep 4 to 7), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and 12V plus shore-power outlets. Many also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for off-grid power. Seatbelted seating is clearly listed on each listing so you can match it to your group size. Wi-Fi is hit or miss, ask the host if they include a hotspot. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and confirm seatbelt count matches your travelers before booking.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Somerville area love making your trip easy, and most offer add-ons like bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, propane top-offs, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, especially for travelers flying into Boston Logan, many hosts will meet you at the airport or deliver straight to your campground. Pickup is typically scheduled between mid-morning and early afternoon to allow walkthrough time, and return windows are similar. Mileage policies vary by listing, with unlimited mileage available on select rigs. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a camp chair package at booking, asking later sometimes costs more than locking it in upfront.
massport.com/logan-airport/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure, you pay through RVezy at the time of booking with a credit or debit card, no cash or checks changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (not the host) before your trip starts, with the exact amount set per listing based on the RV's size and value. As long as you return the rig in the condition you got it, with the tanks and fuel handled per the listing, the deposit is released back to your card after your trip wraps up. Pro tip: take a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to keep your security deposit drama-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a Somerville RV rental good for a family trip?
It is one of the best family moves you can make. A family RV trip Somerville style lets you base out of the city's food scene (Union Square, Davis Square) and then escape to nature in under an hour. Larger Class C motorhomes and bunkhouse travel trailers on RVezy comfortably sleep 6 to 8, with seatbelted seating for kids, plus kitchens that make road snacks and rainy-day meals easy. Family-favorite trips from Somerville include Cape Cod National Seashore (2 hours), Story Land in New Hampshire (3 hours), and Acadia National Park (5 hours). Pro tip: book a campground with a pool and playground like Normandy Farms, it buys you relaxation time while the kids burn energy.
