Wells State Park facilities include a boat ramp and a campers-only swimming beach on Walker Pond, plus forested hiking trails.

The state-run campground at Wells operates roughly from spring through mid-fall, with reservations made through ReserveAmerica or by phone, and winter camping is not available. Private resorts around Spencer typically open in April or May and close in mid-October.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm days, active lake use, and full campgrounds, especially on weekends. Families book waterfront and full-hookup sites weeks or months ahead. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and fewer bugs. Fall foliage in central Massachusetts usually peaks in the second and third weeks of October.

Rob was a great guy who got us out of a jam when our reservation with someone else fell through at the last minute. The trailer was almost brand new and very clean. Linens are also nice and the kitchen was remarkably well!

How to book
Wells State Park is on the Massachusetts DCR reservation system and bookings are made through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made in advance or same day, and staff can be reached by phone during business hours. Walk-in availability is limited, so booking ahead is recommended, especially for summer weekends.
Private resorts book directly through their own websites or by phone. Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, Camp Coldbrook RV Resort, High View Campgrounds, and Pinelake RV Resort and Cottages all take reservations online. Waterfront and full-hookup sites at Pine Acres often sell out for summer weekends and holidays well in advance, so travellers should book as early as possible.
What to expect on arrival
At Wells State Park, campsites are equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, and comfort stations offer hot showers and flush toilets. Quiet hours are observed overnight, and check-in and check-out times are posted at the contact station. Travellers should confirm dump-station availability in advance, as services can change season to season.
Massachusetts prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of DCR campgrounds, and firewood must be purchased on site or from an approved local vendor. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Massachusetts state parks and campgrounds.
Access roads to some private grounds are narrow, so drivers of larger rigs should follow campground-supplied directions rather than default GPS routing.
