Campgrounds and RV parks near Weymouth, MA

Weymouth sits on the South Shore of Massachusetts along Hingham Bay, about 15 miles southeast of downtown Boston. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring both the metropolitan Boston area and the wooded parks and harbor islands of the South Shore. The nearest developed campground for RVs is Wompatuck State Park in neighboring Hingham, a forested public campground managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Offshore, the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park spans dozens of islands within the harbor basin. Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island offers reservable overnight camping in the current season, while Boston Harbor Islands - Grape Island, Boston Harbor Islands - Bumpkin Island, and Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island are typically visited as day-use destinations by ferry from Hingham or Boston. All of the harbor islands are boat or ferry access only, so they suit travelers willing to leave the RV parked at a mainland site. Between Wompatuck and the harbor, the area covers a mix of forest camping, coastal history, and easy access to Boston attractions.

Both Wompatuck State Park and the Boston Harbor Islands campground are managed by the Massachusetts DCR and booked through the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations at Wompatuck can be made up to four months before arrival, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive days. Walk-in registrations are not permitted, and same-day advance reservations are cut off at 2 pm on the date of arrival. For Boston Harbor Islands - Peddocks Island, reservations also open about four months out and are made through ReserveAmerica. Ferry seats sell separately from campsites and capacity is limited, so campers are advised to book ferry passage from Hingham Shipyard immediately after securing a site. For summer weekends, booking as early as the window opens is the safest approach at both parks.
