Campgrounds and RV parks near Chatfield, MN

Chatfield sits in southeastern Minnesota's Bluff Country, a landscape of limestone ridges, trout streams, and hardwood forest carved by the Root River and its branches. The town works well as an RV base for trips into Fillmore and Olmsted counties, with the Rochester metro roughly 20 miles north and Preston, Lanesboro, and the Root River State Trail a short drive south. Campground options in the area range from full-hookup private parks to state-park sites. Nearby state park loops include primitive sites, tent-only areas, and sites with electrical hookups, while private resorts add water, sewer, and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Rochester / Marion KOA Journey, The Old Barn Resort, Horse Camp - Forestville Mystery Cave State Park, Maple Springs Campground, and Highway 250 Campground cover most trip styles. The region is close enough to Rochester for a Mayo Clinic visit or grocery run, yet remote enough for dark skies and quiet nights along the bluffs.

State park sites are reserved through the Minnesota DNR system. Reservations are required via reservemn.usedirect.com or by calling 866-857-2757, and can be made up to 120 days in advance with a non-refundable online or phone reservation fee. A state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the campsite fee. Private parks like Rochester / Marion KOA Journey and The Old Barn Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically release inventory further in advance than the state system. Holiday weekends, the Mayo Clinic conference calendar, and Rochesterfest can tighten availability. For popular state park sites that show sold out, cancellation-watcher tools scan the reservemn system and can alert campers when openings appear.
