Campgrounds near Delano, Minnesota
Delano sits in Wright County along the Crow River, about a 40-minute drive west of downtown Minneapolis. The town works well as a base for RV travelers who want quick access to Twin Cities attractions while camping in a quieter, wooded setting.
Close-in options include Codgers Cover RV Resort and Cokato Lake RV Resort to the west, plus the Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey in Maple Grove and the Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday on the metro side. Equestrian sites are available at Equestrian - Minnesota Valley State Park for travelers hauling horses.
Three Rivers Park District operates additional regional campgrounds nearby in Baker Park Reserve and Elm Creek Park Reserve. Baker has 203 campsites, including 103 with electricity, each with a picnic table and fire ring, with wheelchair accessible showers and flush toilets nearby, and an RV dump station available for registered campsite visitors. These regional options add capacity when private resorts fill on summer weekends.
Things to do near Delano
The area is built around lakes, paved trails, and regional parks. The Luce Line State Trail runs through Wright and Hennepin counties and is used by hikers and cyclists, with a section passing near Delano. Lake Rebecca Park Reserve is a short drive from town and offers hiking, biking, fishing, and picnicking.
Baker National Golf Course sits within Baker Park Reserve, roughly 10 miles from Delano, with rolling terrain and mature trees. Elm Creek Park Reserve, about 30 miles away near Maple Grove, has extensive biking and hiking trails, disc golf, and winter tubing hills.
Twin Cities day trips are easy from Delano. The Mall of America is a popular shopping stop, the Science Museum of Minnesota offers science exhibits for families, and the Minnesota Zoo covers a wide range of animals and wildlife conservation programs.

December - February
27° / 12°F 25 mmDeep cold and snow; most RV parks closed.
The prime RV window runs from May through September. Summer, between June and August, is peak season near Delano, though fall brings fewer people and fewer bugs. Weekends fill early at both private resorts and regional park campgrounds, especially around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
Spring can be wet and cool, with river flooding possible along the Crow and Mississippi in some years. June, July, and August account for a large share of annual precipitation, with most of it falling from thunderstorms. Severe weather is possible during spring and summer, with occasional damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.
Winter camping is limited. Most private RV parks and Three Rivers campgrounds close or reduce services after the fall shoulder. Baker Campground, for example, operates from the last Friday in April through the last Friday in October, so shoulder-season RVers should plan for freezing overnight lows in April and October.

How to book campgrounds near Delano
Reservation systems vary by operator. For Minnesota state parks such as Equestrian - Minnesota Valley State Park, book through the Minnesota DNR at mndnr.gov/reservations or by phone at 866-857-2757. Overnight guests also need a state park vehicle permit, which can be purchased at booking, online, or on arrival.
Three Rivers Park District campgrounds, including Baker and Elm Creek, can be reserved online or by calling Guest Services at 763-559-6700, with reservations available from 120 days prior to the check-in date.
Private parks like Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey, Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday, Codgers Cover RV Resort, and Cokato Lake RV Resort book directly through each operator's website or phone line. For summer weekends, aim to reserve as early as the booking window opens.
What to expect on arrival
Private RV resorts in this corridor typically offer pull-through and back-in sites with 30- and 50-amp service, water, and sewer hookups, along with laundry and shower buildings. KOA campgrounds in the Twin Cities area generally include a mix of full-hookup back-ins and water-and-electric pull-throughs.
Regional and state park campgrounds are more rustic. Expect a mix of electric and non-electric sites, flush toilets, showers, and an RV dump station rather than sewer at each pad. Electrical adapters are not allowed at Baker Campground, 30-amp sites will not accommodate 50-amp units, and 50-amp rigs must reserve in B, D, F, H, or J loops.
Campers must review the firewood policy before bringing firewood to the campground, since all firewood at Three Rivers Park District campgrounds must be Minnesota Department of Agriculture certified wood. Cell coverage is generally solid across the metro corridor and softer in wooded lake pockets west of town.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Delano, MN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Delano, MN?
RV rental in Delano is surprisingly affordable, especially for first-time renters. On RVezy, motorhomes in the Delano area average around $200 per night, while travel trailers and fifth wheels come in closer to $125 per night. Many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings, so a 7-night Crow River loop can land well under $1,000 for the rig itself. To find a cheap RV rental Delano travelers love, filter by price range, book midweek, and avoid the Fourth of July week when Delano's historic celebration draws huge crowds. Pop-up trailers and truck campers are often the lowest-priced way into the lifestyle.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delano,MinnesotaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Delano, Minnesota?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Delano, Minnesota. Recreational vehicles operated for personal use are exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements in Minnesota, and a standard Class D license covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel listed on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to book, and ID verification happens right inside the platform. International visitor? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license keeps you road-ready.

The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, which is a huge stress reliever for first-time renters. During checkout you'll choose the level of coverage that fits your trip, RVezy offers different protection tiers, so you control your comfort level. Pick a higher tier if you're tackling gravel forest roads near Sand Dunes State Forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Delano RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every Delano RV trip, and there is a money-back grace period after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel, and RVezy also accommodates special situations like severe Minnesota weather events that make travel unsafe. You won't see different policies on different listings, because it's a platform-wide process, not host-specific. Book early to grab the best rigs for the Delano Fourth of July weekend, then relax knowing the grace period has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Delano RV trip?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on plenty of Delano RV rentals. Filter listings for Pet-Friendly to instantly see hosts who say yes to four-legged passengers, and you'll find lots of pet-friendly RV rental Delano options ready to go. Once you arrive, the area is a dog lover's dream: Lake Rebecca Park Reserve has leashed trails through its 2,200+ acres, Baker Park Reserve in nearby Medina offers an off-leash dog area, and the paved Luce Line State Trail runs right through Delano for easy on-leash strolls. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or breed notes, and pack a towel for muddy Crow River paws.
threeriversparks.org/location/lake-rebecca-park-reserveCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Delano?
Yes, RV delivery in Delano is one of the easiest ways to start a trip, especially if you're new to towing or driving a big rig. Many RVezy hosts will deliver, level, and set up the RV right at your campsite (think Baker Park Reserve, Lake Auburn Family Campground, or a private property along the Crow River) and walk you through every system from the awning to the holding tanks. Just filter listings for Delivery, enter your destination, and you'll see who serves that location and what they charge. Delivery is a game-changer for the Minneapolis Northwest KOA in Maple Grove, only about 20 miles east of Delano.
threeriversparks.org/location/baker-park-reserveHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Delano?
Your travel range is generous, and Delano sits in a fantastic launching spot for a Midwest RV road trip from Delano. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with most offering 100 to 150 free miles per night plus the option to pre-purchase additional miles at a discount, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. From Delano you can reach Mille Lacs Lake in about 1.5 hours, Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore in around 2.5 hours, Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi) in about 3.5 hours, and the Wisconsin Dells in roughly 4 hours. Estimate your route in Google Maps first, then buy a mileage package upfront to save money.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00181Where are the best campgrounds near Delano, MN?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Delano. A few favorites within easy reach: Baker Park Reserve in Medina (about 12 miles east) offers lakeside sites on Lake Independence with electric hookups; Lake Auburn Family Campground at Carver Park Reserve (about 25 miles south) has lakeside sites and quiet woods; Cokato Lake Campground (about 25 miles west) features a pool and full hookups; and the Minneapolis Northwest KOA in Maple Grove (about 20 miles) is a polished, family-focused option. For state-park flavor, Lake Maria State Park is just 25 miles north. Three Rivers Park District sites open reservations 12 months out.
threeriversparks.org/page/campingWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Delano?
The sweet spot for a Delano RV trip is mid-May through early October, when daytime highs average 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and Minnesota's lakes, trails, and patios come alive. July and August are peak season with the warmest water for swimming in Lake Rebecca and the legendary Delano Fourth of July celebration, one of the oldest in Minnesota. September brings cooler nights, fewer mosquitoes, and stunning fall color along the Crow River. Spring (late April to May) is quieter and cheaper. Winter rentals exist for ice fishing and snowmobiling, but you'll want a four-season rig. Book Fourth of July week at least 3 to 4 months out, it sells out every year.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually be able to do this?
Yes, and you'll be amazed how quickly it clicks. First time renting an RV in Delano is genuinely beginner-friendly because every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the propane, water, electrical hookups, slide-outs, and dump procedure before you drive off. You can message the host with questions before you ever book, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan if anything feels off mid-trip. Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer for easier handling on Highway 12 and county roads. Pick a delivered rental for your first trip so the host sets up at the campsite while you focus on enjoying the Luce Line Trail.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Take a deep breath, you're covered. Every campervan rental Delano booking through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 12, a dead battery at Lake Maria State Park, or a lockout at the Minneapolis Northwest KOA is one phone call away from being handled. The RVezy customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is just a message away for quick questions about the rig's specific systems. Snap a photo of the host's walkthrough notes at pickup, it makes troubleshooting tank lights or generator quirks much faster later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Delano RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is totally fine, and crossing into Canada is often possible too. Most hosts on RVezy welcome trips across Minnesota into Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, and beyond, with popular routes from Delano including the North Shore Scenic Drive along Lake Superior, the Wisconsin Dells, and the Black Hills. For Canada (think Thunder Bay or Winnipeg), message your host before booking to confirm and to make sure the protection plan extends across the border. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Bring a passport for any Canadian crossing, and budget extra time at the border on weekends.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an RV trip from Delano?
Budgeting is easy once you know the ranges. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 MPG. If you're towing a travel trailer with your own truck, expect a 25 to 35 percent drop from your truck's normal MPG. Minnesota gas prices in the Twin Cities metro typically sit in the low-to-mid $3 range per gallon, with Delano's local stations on Highway 12 usually a few cents cheaper than central Minneapolis. A weekend round trip from Delano to Itasca State Park (about 450 miles total) in a Class C runs roughly $110 to $140 in fuel.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Delano?
For the best sites, book early, but you have backup options if you don't. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) state park campgrounds (including Lake Maria and Sand Dunes) accept reservations up to 120 days in advance, and weekends fill fast. Three Rivers Park District sites like Baker Park Reserve open reservations roughly 12 months in advance. Private parks such as Cokato Lake Campground and Minneapolis Northwest KOA take reservations year-round. Same-day reservations at Minnesota state parks are now offered with no extra reservation fee. Use the DNR's notify-me alert to grab cancellations for Fourth of July week near Delano.
dnr.state.mn.us/reservations/index.htmlWhat are the driving conditions like around Delano?
Driving here is refreshingly relaxed compared to big-city RV touring. Delano sits about 35 miles west of Minneapolis on US Highway 12, a well-maintained corridor that's a breeze for any motorhome rental Delano renter. Once you're off the highway, expect gently rolling farmland, paved county roads, and short stretches of gravel near lakes, no mountain passes, no tight switchbacks. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially along Wright County roads. Winter brings snow and ice from November through March, so check road conditions before you head out. Avoid I-394 into downtown Minneapolis during rush hour, take Highway 55 east instead for a calmer route.
dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Delano?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable trip. Most private parks near Delano (Cokato Lake Campground, Minneapolis Northwest KOA, Lake Auburn Family Campground) offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, and sewer at the site, plus dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Three Rivers Park District sites like Baker Park Reserve have electric hookups, a centralized dump station, and a potable water fill. Minnesota state parks (Lake Maria, Sand Dunes) typically offer electric-only sites with shared dump stations and modern restrooms. Fill fresh water before you arrive at any state park since spigots can be limited.
threeriversparks.org/location/baker-park-reserveWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Delano?
More creature comforts than you'd expect. A typical RV rental in Delano sleeps 4 to 8 people across queen beds, convertible dinettes, and overhead bunks, with seatbelts for safe travel. Kitchens come stocked with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, and sink (many hosts include cookware, dishes, and coffee makers). Bathrooms have a toilet, shower, and sink. Air conditioning, propane furnace, and a TV are standard in most Class C and Class A rentals, and many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators as add-ons. Check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm linens, towels, and a starter propane tank are included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delano,MinnesotaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Add-ons make your rent an RV in Delano experience truly turnkey. Popular extras include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, propane fire pits, generators, bike racks, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup priced per mile from their home base. Pickup is usually a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough at the host's address (often within a 20-mile radius of Delano), with return at the same spot. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available at a per-mile rate set by the host. Bundle delivery plus a generator if you're heading to a no-hookup site like a state forest campground.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delano,MinnesotaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple, transparent, and fully handled on the platform. When you book your RV rental Minnesota trip, you'll pay through RVezy's secure checkout (no cash, no off-platform transfers, which is also how you stay protected). A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip starts; the amount varies by RV and host, and it's clearly shown before you confirm. As long as the RV comes back in the condition it left in, with the agreed mileage and a clean interior, the hold is released after your return. Do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff to document condition and avoid any deposit disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I use my Delano RV in winter, and how do I prep for cold weather?
Yes, winter RVing around Delano is an underrated adventure if you choose the right rig. Look for listings labeled as four-season or winter-ready, with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, a propane furnace, and the ability to plug into 30-amp shore power for continuous heat. Many private parks near Delano stay open into late fall, and ice fishing camps on Lake Mille Lacs (about 90 minutes north) welcome winter RVers. Average January highs near Delano hover around 23 degrees Fahrenheit, with lows often dipping below zero. Ask the host about the antifreeze and skirting setup, and travel with extra propane, a Minnesota winter eats through it fast.
