Campgrounds and RV parks near Geneva, MN

Myre-Big Island State Park is the main draw. The park protects roughly 8 miles of shoreline on Albert Lea Lake and offers a self-guided hiking trail with over 8 miles of routes, including the Bur Oak Esker and Big Island Great Marsh trails, plus additional standard hiking trails through prairie and woodland. The paved Blazing Star State Trail passes through the park and connects into Albert Lea, giving cyclists a smooth ride from camp to town. Boat launches and rental canoes provide access to Albert Lea Lake for fishing and paddling. Birding is a highlight in shoulder seasons: the park is known for spring and fall migration, and American white pelicans congregate on the lake. Off-park stops in Albert Lea cover groceries, ice, and firewood before returning to camp.

Southern Minnesota has a strong four-season climate. The area is characterized by hot and humid summers and cold and snowy winters, with significant swings in temperature from season to season, driven by warm air masses flowing northward from the Gulf of Mexico and cold arctic air masses traveling southward from Canada. Summer campers should monitor storm forecasts, since severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are part of the warm season in this part of the state. Most private RV parks run a defined open season. Crystal Springs RV Resort operates May 1 through October 31, weather permitting. Oakwoods Trails and the Albert Lea / Austin KOA Journey also run on a seasonal warm-weather schedule. Myre-Big Island State Park is open for camping in all seasons, with both electric and non-electric sites available in winter, though showers and the trash station operate only from late April to late October. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, migration activity, and lighter crowds; summer weekends are the busiest.

Expect flat-to-rolling terrain, oak groves, farm fields, and shallow prairie lakes. At Myre-Big Island State Park, Big Island Campground has 34 wooded sites with 17 electric hookups and a camper cabin, while White Fox Campground has 59 more open sites with 15 electric hookups. Sites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 60 feet, each with a parking spur, table, fire ring and grate, and campground amenities include drinking water, vault and flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station. Wildlife is active. The park is home to white-tailed deer, red and gray foxes, raccoons, muskrats, opossums, squirrels, and several species of bats, and is known for birdwatching, especially during spring and fall migration, including American white pelicans on Albert Lea Lake. Mosquitoes are common in summer near the wetlands, so bring repellent. Private parks in the area lean toward full hookups and level pads.
