Campgrounds and RV parks near Lester Prairie, MN

Lester Prairie sits in McLeod County about an hour west of the Twin Cities, surrounded by farmland, small lakes, and the wooded corridor of the South Fork Crow River. It works well as a quiet base for RV travelers who want easy metro access without staying inside the city. Highways 7 and 12 put Hutchinson, Cokato, and the western suburbs of Minneapolis within a short drive. Campground options in the area range from full-hookup resorts to state-managed sites. Codgers Cover RV Resort and Cokato Lake RV Resort are the closest private RV parks, both oriented around lake recreation and family activities. Peaceful Valley Campsites offers a lower-key private option, while Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday in Jordan provides a highway-accessible metro base with cabins and RV sites. For state-park camping, the Equestrian campground at Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area lies roughly 45 minutes southeast, giving horse-trailer travelers direct access to the recreation area's 35 miles of multi-use trails along the Minnesota River.

Private RV parks handle their own reservations. Cokato Lake RV Resort, Codgers Cover RV Resort, Peaceful Valley Campsites, and Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday all book directly through their websites or by phone, and holiday weekends fill early. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. State-park sites, including the Equestrian campground at Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area, use the Minnesota DNR reservation system. Online reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance, 24 hours a day, except on the first day a reservation becomes available, when bookings cannot be made online before 8 a.m. All campsites in Minnesota state parks and recreation areas require a reservation before they may be occupied, year-round. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is also required for every vehicle entering a state park or recreation area, including day visits.
