Campgrounds and RV parks near Waverly, MN

Lakes drive most summer activity. Cokato Lake, Waverly Lake, and Lake Mary offer public accesses for fishing, kayaking, and swimming, with walleye, bass, and panfish common catches. Cokato Lake RV Resort has direct lake access for boating and adds family amenities on site. Hikers and paddlers head to Lake Maria State Park, which protects one of the last stands of Big Woods maple and basswood forest and hosts around 200 recorded bird species, along with hiking trails, six miles of horse trails, and canoe access to Maria Lake. The Luce Line State Trail crosses the region on a former rail bed, useful for biking or a walk from camp. Day trips reach the Mississippi River at Monticello and Becker, plus St. Cloud's shops and restaurants about 35 minutes north.

The Minnesota RV season is short and busy. Most private parks and county campgrounds run from around May 1 through mid-October, matching Wright County's campground season of May 1 through October 18. Full-hookup demand peaks from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with summer weekends and holidays booking out first. Spring can be wet and muddy, and back roads into some county and state park sites are slow to firm up after snowmelt. Late May through June brings peak mosquitoes near the lakes and marshes, so travelers should bring screens and repellent. July and August are warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common, and are the prime lake-swimming stretch. September and early October deliver cooler nights, fewer bugs, and hardwood color in the Big Woods around Lake Maria. Winter camping is limited: Lake Maria State Park stays open year-round with two of its three camper cabins heated by woodstove, but most private RV parks close and freezing temperatures make water hookups impractical.

Private parks in this area lean toward family resort setups: paved or gravel pads, 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and shared amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and small camp stores. Cokato Lake RV Resort is one of the larger amenity-rich options, and RiversEdge RV Park of Becker sits close to the Mississippi with waterfront-oriented sites. Expect a mix of paved highways and gravel county roads, and cell coverage that improves closer to I-94. Only Minnesota-approved or certified heat-treated firewood may be brought in, to limit forest-pest spread. Lake Maria State Park is different: vehicles park at the trailhead and campers hike a half-mile to a mile to reach backpack sites or camper cabins. Sites have vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, with drinking water at the Trail Center only.
