Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Lotawana, MO

The lakes drive most of the recreation. Fleming Park is a strong jumping-off point for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and paddling on Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake. The park features a network of 27 hiking trails winding through the Fleming Park area. Anglers target bass, crappie, and catfish across the region's public lakes. History travelers can visit Fort Osage National Historic Landmark and Missouri Town, both part of the Jackson County Parks system. Families based at Kansas City East / Oak Grove KOA Holiday or Trailside RV Park and Propane can also reach downtown Kansas City in about half an hour for the Kansas City Zoo, Crown Center, Union Station, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Closer to camp, Lake Paradise Resort and Powell's Creekside Haven suit travelers who want a slower day on the water or by the fire.

Western Missouri runs on a four-season calendar. The area has hot, humid summers reaching into the 90s Fahrenheit and winters that drop well below freezing at night. Peak RV season stretches from late spring through early fall, and the county-run parks anchor that window: Blue Springs and Jacomo Campgrounds open April 1 through October 31, while Longview Campground closes at the end of September. Spring brings the strongest storm activity. Kansas City sits in a corridor prone to severe weather, and tornadoes are most likely in spring, though they can also occur in autumn. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from May through July, so RV renters should build in weather-buffer days and monitor NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill forecasts. Fall is often the most comfortable stretch for camping. Mid-September through mid-October tends to be drier and more stable, with less temperature swing than spring. Winter camping is possible at year-round private parks like Trailside RV Park and Propane, but the county campgrounds and many private resorts close their sites and shut off water lines once freezing weather sets in.

Expect suburban-edge camping rather than backcountry. Private parks in the Blue Springs and Lee's Summit corridor offer full hookups and Wi-Fi, and the county campgrounds mix full-hookup, electric-and-water, and electric-only sites. Blue Springs Campground has 82 campsites, with 30 full hookup, 13 electric and water, and 39 electric only. Site conditions vary. Several county sites sit at the bottom of a hill and can become waterlogged during rainy periods, and tree cover across most sites is minimal. Request a specific site number when possible, especially for larger rigs. Cell service is generally strong on major carriers across the area. Grocery, fuel, propane refills, and RV supply stops are easy to reach from any of the listed campgrounds, and interstate access via I-70 and I-470 keeps travel days short.
