Campgrounds and RV parks near Lowry City, MO

Truman Lake is the main draw. Fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish is productive around wooded cove edges, and boat ramps are scattered around the reservoir. Raccoon Ridge has its own boat launch reserved for campground guests, and Thorny Ridge sits on a peninsula with a ramp at the end of the campground road, making launches straightforward for RVers towing a boat. Swimming beaches inside Harry S Truman State Park operate seasonally, with no lifeguards on duty. The park also has short hiking trails, including the Bluff Ridge Trail that climbs to an overlook above the lake. Renters without a boat can visit the Truman State Park Marina, which stocks pontoons, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, and tubes.

Peak season around Truman Lake runs from late spring through early fall, when boating, swimming, and fishing pull the biggest crowds and weekend sites fill early. Spring is typically the wettest stretch, with frequent thunderstorms and the highest risk of severe weather, and lake levels can swing quickly after heavy rain, occasionally closing lakeside loops until water recedes. June through August is hot and humid, with highs regularly in the upper 80s Fahrenheit. September and October usually bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and quieter campgrounds, and are widely considered the most comfortable RV months in the region. Fall visitors should note that hunting seasons on nearby public land can affect trail use. Winters are cold and generally the driest season. State-park loops such as Raccoon Ridge and Thorny Ridge stay open year-round, but water systems, shower houses, and dump stations are turned off in the off-season, so RVers should arrive with fresh water on board.

State-park loops around Truman Lake are heavily wooded and provide electric hookups on paved or concrete pads, with pad lengths that accommodate larger rigs up to about 60 feet. Water and sewer are handled at shared dump stations rather than at individual sites, and shower houses, flush toilets, and laundry are available in season. Private parks in the area lean toward full hookups. Hickory Hollow Resort accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with electric, water, and sewer connections, and adds a pool, camp store, and cabin rentals for mixed groups. RVers should plan for muggy summer nights, active wildlife after dark, and cell coverage that varies by carrier and cove. Camping stays are limited to 15 days within any 30-day period at a single Missouri state park or historic site.
