Campgrounds and RV parks near Pleasant Hill, MO

The Kansas City metro is the biggest draw. Truman Sports Complex, home to the Chiefs and Royals, sits roughly 20 miles northwest, and the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence is a common day trip for families. Fort Osage National Historic Landmark and the 1855 Missouri Town living-history museum add depth for history-focused travelers. For outdoor time, Longview Lake and Lake Jacomo in Fleming Park offer boating, swimming, and paved cycling paths, while Blue Springs Lake anchors a second cluster of trails and picnic areas. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish across all three reservoirs. Kids-focused stops include the Kansas City Zoo, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE Aquarium, and Paradise Park in Lee's Summit.

The camping season across the Kansas City region runs primarily April through October. Many public and Corps-managed campgrounds close or reduce services from late fall through early spring. Longview Lake Campground, for example, operates seasonally from April 1 through September 30, while private parks such as Peculiar Park Place and Lake Paradise Resort typically stay open year-round, which matters for shoulder-season and winter travelers. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with May and June normally the wettest months and a heightened risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes across western Missouri. Sites can be soft or briefly flooded after heavy rain, and low-lying loops are the first to feel it. Summer is hot and humid with afternoon highs commonly in the upper 80s, biting insects near the lakes, and peak weekend demand at both private parks and Jackson County lake campgrounds. Fall is the most comfortable window for RV travel. Daytime temperatures moderate into the 60s and 70s through October, humidity drops, and hardwood color along the lake shorelines peaks from mid-October into early November. Winter is cold, occasionally snowy, and best suited to travelers with cold-weather rigs.

Pleasant Hill itself is a small railroad town, so expect quiet residential streets, a compact downtown, and a working BNSF line that runs through the area. Train noise is a factor at sites close to the tracks, and reviewers mention it regularly. Cell coverage on the major carriers is generally strong across Cass and Jackson counties, and Starlink users report good sky views at most rural sites. Roads to the private parks are paved and easy for larger rigs, though a few county roads near the lakes narrow through wooded sections. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Pleasant Hill, Lee's Summit, and Belton, so resupply is straightforward. Summer thunderstorms can be intense, so plan awnings and slide toppers accordingly and know the location of the nearest storm shelter at your campground.
