Campgrounds near Trenton, Missouri
Trenton sits in the rolling hills of Grundy County in northern Missouri, with camping options concentrated at two nearby state parks and a handful of private RV parks along the U.S. 65 corridor. Crowder State Park, located just west of Trenton off Highway 146, provides 1,912 acres where visitors can camp, picnic and hike. It is the closest full-service campground to town and the primary anchor for most RV trips in the area.
About an hour southeast, Pershing State Park spans more than 5,000 acres of wetland prairie, bottomland forest and Locust Creek habitat, offering a second state-park option with a very different ecosystem to explore. Private choices closer to Trenton include Shady Valley Court and RV Park, A Country Charm RV & Cabins, and A Country Charm RV Park.
Together these properties give RV renters a mix of public-land camping with trails and a small lake, plus smaller private parks better suited for overnight stops or longer stays with full hookups.
Things to do near Trenton
Outdoor recreation centers on the two nearby state parks. Crowder State Park offers more than 17 miles of hiking, bicycling, backpacking and equestrian trails through forested, rugged terrain, plus fishing and boating on 18-acre Crowder Lake. The lake holds channel catfish, crappie, bluegill and largemouth bass, and no gas-powered motors are allowed.
At Pershing State Park, the highlights are the wetlands and boardwalk. The Locust Creek Riparian Trail connects the park to the Fountain Grove Conservation Area, with the first mile inside the park built as an accessible boardwalk with interpretive signing that travels along the natural levee of Locust Creek. An observation tower overlooks nearly 1,000 acres of wet prairie, and the area has been designated an Important Bird Area, making it a strong stop for birders and families with young hikers.

The camping season in the Trenton area runs primarily spring through fall. Crowder State Park's campground is open March 1 through November 30, with reservations offered April 15 through October 31. Showers and water are available April 15 through October 31, with a single frost-free spigot at Campsite 10 providing potable water during the off-season. Off-season stays are possible but rustic.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Crowder reaches its peak in summer as the small lake becomes the main draw, and weather is often hot and humid. During peak season, the campground can go from nearly empty on weekdays to almost full by Friday evening.
Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer bugs and easier site availability. Winters are cold with occasional snow, and most services at both state parks scale back or shut down between November and mid-April, so RV renters traveling in that window should confirm which loops and hookups remain accessible.
How to book near Trenton
Both nearby state parks use the Missouri State Parks reservation system. Reservations can be made online through mostateparks.com or by calling toll free 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766). Campsites may be reserved up to 12 months in advance, expanded from the previous six-month window.
A minimum stay applies on weekends and major holidays from May 15 through September 15. Reservable sites may still be available on a walk-up basis if not already booked, so check with park staff or follow the directions on the posted card or signs before occupying a site.
Private options such as Shady Valley Court and RV Park, A Country Charm RV & Cabins, and A Country Charm RV Park are booked directly with each operator by phone, and are useful backups when state-park sites are full.
What to expect at Trenton campgrounds
Campgrounds around Trenton are small, quiet and family-oriented rather than resort-style. Crowder has around 40 RV sites, creating an intimate camping experience, and the atmosphere is often described as tranquil with good stargazing. The camping area includes modern restrooms and showers, a dumping station and a laundromat.
Crowder State Park offers basic and electric campsites, platform tent sites, an organized group camp and a special-use camping area, plus family campsites for extra space. Pershing provides a shady campground with electric and basic sites, modern restrooms, hot showers and laundry.
Rig size matters at Pershing: the campground is small with about 39 sites arranged in a loop, and big rigs may have trouble maneuvering. Generators are prohibited in the Crowder campground unless approved by the park manager.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Trenton, MO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Trenton, MO?
RV rental in Trenton is one of the most affordable ways to explore northern Missouri, with travel trailers often starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $275 per night. Because Trenton sits in rural Grundy County, nightly rates here are usually friendlier than in Kansas City or St. Louis. To save even more on a cheap RV rental in Trenton, book mid-week, travel in the shoulder seasons of April, May, September, or early October, and look for hosts offering free local delivery. Tip: hosts who include extras like camp chairs or a stocked kitchen kit can save you another $50 to $100 in add-ons over a long weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20MissouriWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Trenton, MO?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Trenton, MO. Missouri does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers booked through RVezy, no matter the size. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the booking platform, so there's no paperwork to chase down. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. With those basics ready, you can focus on planning your route through Grundy County's rolling farmland instead of red tape.
dor.mo.gov/driver-license/Is my RV rental in Trenton covered if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RV rental in Trenton booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your reservation. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind without buying a separate policy. RVezy offers different protection tiers, and you (not the host) choose the level that fits your trip during checkout. So whether you are heading to Crowder State Park for a weekend or planning a longer Missouri RV trip, you are covered from pickup to drop-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Trenton RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear, standardized cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, so you get consistent treatment no matter which Trenton listing you choose. Your refund amount depends mainly on how far in advance of your trip you cancel. If a host needs to cancel on you, RVezy helps with a refund or rebooking support. If plans shift, reach out to RVezy support and they will walk you through your options. Book now, fine-tune later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Trenton, MO RV rental?
Absolutely, and many hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. To find a pet-friendly RV rental Trenton travelers love, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are explicitly welcome. Once you're on the road, Crowder State Park about 10 minutes south of Trenton has leashed-pet-friendly trails through oak-hickory forest, and Pershing State Park near Laclede (about 25 miles east) allows pets on most trails and campsites. Bring a tie-out, plenty of water for hot Missouri summers, and a pet bed so your RV interior stays clean. Send the host a quick message before booking to confirm pet fees and you're set.
mostateparks.com/park/crowder-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Trenton?
Yes, RV delivery in Trenton is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig straight to Crowder State Park, Lake Trenton, or even your driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero stress about backing a 30-foot trailer into a tight site. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, and check each listing for delivery radius and per-mile fees. Tip: booking delivery to Crowder State Park lets you skip towing entirely and show up to a ready-to-camp setup.
mostateparks.com/park/crowder-state-parkHow far can I drive from Trenton on an RV road trip?
Plenty far. Trenton's central location in northern Missouri makes it a great launchpad for an RV road trip from Trenton in just about any direction. Kansas City is roughly 100 miles southwest (about 1 hour 45 minutes), the Lake of the Ozarks is around 190 miles south (3 to 3.5 hours), Branson sits about 270 miles south (4.5 hours), and Omaha, Nebraska is about 150 miles northwest (2.5 hours). Many hosts offer unlimited mileage or generous daily allowances, so ask before booking if you're planning long days. Pro tip: check each listing's mileage policy and request unlimited miles directly from the host if you're plotting a multi-state loop.
modot.org/Where are the best campgrounds near Trenton, MO?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Trenton. Crowder State Park, just south of town, offers electric campsites, a dump station, hot showers, and access to fishing on Crowder Lake. Lake Trenton has waterfront sites near city limits and is perfect for a quick overnight. Pershing State Park near Laclede has shaded sites along the Locust Creek bottoms with electric and water hookups. A bit farther afield, Long Branch State Park near Macon offers sites on a large reservoir. Reserve Missouri State Park sites through icampmo1.usedirect.com up to a year ahead, especially for summer weekends and the Missouri Day Festival in October.
mostateparks.com/park/crowder-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for a Trenton, MO RV trip?
Late April through mid-October is prime RV season in Trenton, with the sweet spots being May, early June, September, and early October when daytime highs sit in a pleasant 65 to 80°F range and humidity is manageable. July and August get genuinely hot and humid, with highs around 85°F and heat indices that can push into the mid-90s, so plan early-morning hikes and book a rig with strong air conditioning. Fall brings gorgeous oak and maple color through Crowder State Park, while spring delivers wildflowers along the Thompson River. Winter rentals are limited as overnight lows can drop into the teens, but cozy four-season rigs do operate for hardy travelers.
weather.gov/eax/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Trenton?
You will do great. Trenton is one of the friendliest places in Missouri for a first time renting an RV: traffic is light, parking is generous, and US-65 and US-36 are well-maintained highways with easy shoulders. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, slide-outs, and dump procedures, and you can message them anytime during your trip with questions. Stick to daylight driving for your first day, take wider turns than feels natural, and watch your overhead clearance at older gas stations downtown. Tip: practice a few right turns in a large parking lot like Hy-Vee on 9th Street before heading out and your confidence will skyrocket.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Trenton RV trip?
You are never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-65 or a dead battery at Crowder State Park is just a phone call away from being solved. The roadside team can help with tows, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also typically a quick message away for questions about quirks of their specific rig. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Trenton, snap photos of the RV at pickup, and you have a safety net under every mile of your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Trenton, MO RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, multi-state RV travel from Trenton is welcome. You can cruise into Iowa (the border is about 35 miles north), Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois, or Arkansas without any special paperwork, and your RVezy renter protection plan travels with you in the United States. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with some hosts and protection plans, so message the host through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend south of the border. Popular multi-state loops from Trenton include the Iowa Great Lakes and the Ozarks down through Arkansas.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Trenton RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, so here's a realistic picture. Class C motorhomes around Trenton typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), travel trailers towed by a pickup average 10 to 13 mpg combined, and Class B campervans can stretch to 16 to 20 mpg. Missouri gas prices tend to run noticeably below the national average, often $0.20 to $0.40 per gallon cheaper than coastal states. Fill up in Trenton at Casey's or Sinclair on Main Street before heading to remote areas like Pershing State Park. Pro tip: keeping highway speeds around 60 to 62 mph instead of 70 can boost fuel economy by 10 to 15 percent on a long Missouri RV trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Trenton?
For Missouri State Parks like Crowder, Pershing, and Long Branch, reservations open up to 12 months in advance through icampmo1.usedirect.com, and summer weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill quickly, so aim to book 3 to 6 months out. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October, 2 to 4 weeks of lead time is usually enough. Lake Trenton Park sites in town are first-come, first-served, so arrive by Friday morning on summer weekends. Pro tip: the Missouri Day Festival in mid-October draws a crowd to Trenton, so lock in campground reservations and your RV rental by late summer to avoid scrambling.
icampmo1.usedirect.com/What are driving conditions like around Trenton?
Driving an RV around Trenton is refreshingly low-stress. US-65 and US-36 are the main arteries, both two-lane to four-lane highways with wide shoulders, gentle grades, and very little congestion outside of Kansas City. Watch for two regional quirks: deer are active at dawn and dusk in Grundy County year-round, and severe thunderstorms or tornado warnings can pop up between April and June, so download the National Weather Service app and check forecasts before each leg. Winter brings occasional ice storms, which is why most travelers stick to April through October. Rural county roads can be gravel and narrow, so use Google Maps' satellite view to verify any campground access road before committing.
weather.gov/eax/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Trenton?
You'll find a healthy mix. Crowder State Park offers electric-only sites with a centralized dump station and potable water fill-ups, while Long Branch State Park near Macon has full-hookup sites with sewer, water, and 50-amp electric. Pershing State Park provides electric and water sites and a dump station near the campground entrance. In-town, Lake Trenton Park has electric sites and access to city water nearby. Most Missouri State Park dump stations are free for registered campers. Pro tip: top off freshwater before leaving the campground each morning since rural fill points between parks are limited, and pack a 25-foot freshwater hose plus a sewer hose support for the best experience.
mostateparks.com/page/55150/campingWhat is typically included inside an RV rental in Trenton?
Most motorhome rentals in Trenton come fully equipped so you can roll in and start camping. Expect a queen or king bed, a dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, and often an oven, plus a wet bath with toilet, sink, and shower. Air conditioning, furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel are standard. Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor chairs, a grill, and basic cookware. Wi-Fi and generators are often available as add-ons. Check each listing's amenity list carefully, and message the host if you need something specific like a coffee maker or a crib. Your campervan rental in Trenton will feel like a hotel on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20MissouriWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Trenton?
When you rent an RV in Trenton, hosts often offer practical add-ons like generators ($25 to $50 per day), camp chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, and pre-filled propane tanks. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or around Trenton, though many will deliver to Crowder State Park or your destination for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary: some listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for longer trips. Tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator into one quote up front so there are no surprises, and confirm drop-off time to avoid late fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20MissouriHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Trenton RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, so there is no cash, no third-party apps, and no awkward exchanges with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately to cover potential incidentals, and it is released back to you after drop-off assuming the RV is returned in the condition it left. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick video of the interior, exterior, and tanks at pickup and drop-off, return the rig with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and follow the host's dump-station instructions.
