Campgrounds and RV parks near Weatherby Lake, MO

The Missouri River bluffs are the main outdoor draw. Weston Bend State Park has a three-mile paved bicycle trail that winds through wooded terrain and connects to a scenic river overlook, along with additional hiking trails. Parkville Nature Sanctuary and English Landing Park add more walking and river-access options close to the lake. Families staying in the metro typically build a day around Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun, the Kansas City Zoo, or a Royals game at Kauffman Stadium. Museum stops include the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Arabia Steamboat Museum in the River Market district. Historic Weston, just up the road from the state park, adds wineries, a distillery, and antique shops to the mix. Anglers on Weatherby Lake proper should note that access is limited to residents and their guests.

The camping season near Weatherby Lake runs strongest from late spring through early fall. Worlds Of Fun Village typically operates from March through November, tied to the amusement-park calendar, and Basswood Resort runs a full activity schedule from April through November, ramping up between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Reservations for summer weekends and holiday periods should be locked in well in advance. Weston Bend State Park is open year-round but shifts modes with the calendar. Sites are fully reservable from mid-April through October, then switch to first-come, first-served from November 1 through April 14. Potable water inside the campground is turned off from November through mid-April, with only a frost-free hydrant at the dump station available during that stretch. The park gate closes at 9 p.m. in-season and 6 p.m. off-season. Spring brings thunderstorms and occasional severe weather, as the Kansas City area sits in Tornado Alley. Summer is hot and humid, and fall usually delivers the most reliable camping conditions.
