Campgrounds and RV parks near Crawford, NE

Crawford sits in the Pine Ridge of northwest Nebraska, at the edge of Fort Robinson State Park. The park spans more than 22,000 acres of Pine Ridge scenery, and it features the park's own buffalo and longhorn herds. The fort itself is a preserved 19th-century military post with a museum and restored buildings. RV travelers typically base out of Soldiers Creek at Fort Robinson State Park, which offers electric and basic sites. Amenities include modern restrooms, showers, drinking water, a dump and fill station, picnic tables and shelters, and a coin operated laundry facility. The Mare Barn area serves equestrian campers who bring their own horses, with electric and basic sites near the stalls and trailheads. Beyond the fort, options include Chadron State Park about 25 miles east, Box Butte Reservoir State Recreation Area to the south for water-based recreation, and High Plains Homestead, a smaller private stop near Toadstool Geologic Park.

Sites at Fort Robinson State Park and Chadron State Park are reserved through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reservation system, online or by phone. Designated campsites may be reserved up to 180 days at park locations across the state. Reservations are taken for 50 percent of the modern camping at Red Cloud and Soldier Creek campgrounds, with the balance held as first-come, first-served. Reservations require a nonrefundable reservation fee plus tax per unit in addition to the regular lodging fee. A valid Nebraska state park entry permit is required for every vehicle entering the park, and it can be purchased with the reservation. Box Butte Reservoir sites also route through the same state system, while High Plains Homestead is booked directly with the property.
